Help..... What relaxer should i get?????

hi ladies

i plan on relaxing next month and have no idea which relaxer to use and what strength to get. so i need recommendations from you. i'm looking for something that can be purchased at a bss so no affirm or any other salon brand that i cant get my hands on. and also what strength should i get it in. i'm looking to get my hair pretty straight, i cant afford to be uderprocessed again, with as little burning as possible, so any ideas??? i'd like to hear your comments. so far i'm thinking about either getting motions,elasta qp, or creme of nature.

Bree I use Creme of Nature Mild and my hair gets pretty straight. It would get straighter if I left it on for longer but I deliberately leave some wave in my hair. I think this is an excellent relaxer.

Bree, my vote is still for Motions... but I still don't know what strength

. I'd say Elasta QP, as a close runner-up.

i hear hawaiian silky is a GREAT relaxer and is lye!

If its no lye then i recommend ORS Olive Oil Relaxer. It takes very quickly, does not burn, the shampoo detangles and leaves your hair silky and the replenishing pack conditions the hair really well. By the way it gets my hair straight in the least amount of time and has a built in protection.

i definitely think you should get clairol tones & textures w/elasticom

don't forget to get the neutralizing shampoo.

the strength should be determined by the texture of your hair and not necessarily by the results you hope to achieve. the results you want should solely be based on application technique.

i'm reluctant to do that cause sheldeez only sells the big tubs of their relaxer.i'm afraid if i get it in the big tub i wont like b/c i'll burn too much or it wont straighten my hair out enough and i'll be stuck. after the elucence fiasco i'm really scared of being underprocessed again.

I use Revlon Realistic Lye, and it gets my hair straight, without burning.

after using elucence normal relaxer which left me underprocessed/texturized i dont think that holds true for every relaxer brand. my hair dresser does a great job of smoothing in the relaxer and even leaves it in longer than the amount of time she's suppose to and elucence stillllll didnt get my hair straight.i dont know, the elucence relaxer threw me off cause i would have never though my hair wouldn't take to a normal strength esp since i'm used to using mild.so now i'm scurred.

btw thanks for your replies ladies... keep em coming.oh yeah, i'm looking for a lye relaxer.

I use regular strength

I apply it, and smooth it on for about 10 minutes.

I have this same problem now, I recently tried Elasta QP Extra Body perm, but ti didnt really give me results I liked so after my 16 week challenge, I might have to shorten that I might switch too:
Profectiv's perm - regular
Elasta QP regular or the ORS perm

Any suggestions on which one I should switch too, I might just have to go back to my old brand Supreme!

You might hear from me again, when I am closer to perming, about this if no one responds

I use regular and no, it didn't burn at all! I LOVE it!
The kit has enough to be used twice!

that is why I wanted to use it, because on the box it says that it has protection guards, so that it doesnt over or under process the hair, and it doesnt burn.

The elasta qp I used burn, but maybe because I irrated my scalp before using, but I had to rinse out earlier than usual, and I still had scabs!

I dont want to perm to early, I just permed last week, so I might wait 4-6 weeks. depending on how I feel.

bree, the elasta qp regular is great. Ever since i've used this relaxer my hair has been in tip top shape. It leaves a slight loose wave patternm oin my hair if i airdry.
