Typing and wet hair (more complaints and confusion in typing)

When my hair is wet...I would call it 3c. It looks like it can go around a pencil..but when it dries, it squeezes up on itself so much, Anita Hill at the Toronto Hair show kept referring to it as comb coils when in reality it was just a wash n go. It's very confusing, because while I am in the shower and I see those completely natural shed hairs on the wall/my fingers/the comb, they range from pencil size to thin marker size. Even when they dry on their own as a shed hair, they stay pretty big sometimes (sometimes!). But while its on my head, it turns into comb coils. For this reason, I call myself 4a/3c. How does this phenomenon factor into the typing process? I think we really need to make our own system, or even more just throw out this whole typing thing, because in reality, it will be impossible to categorize eeeeveryone, because certainly once you've made the chart, someone is going to pop up out of Timbucktoo with some next ish. I think actually the LOIS system can gwan because its so broad, it pretty much fits everyone unless you have some weird 8 shaped hair which I can imagine is possible if your hair curls back on itself sometimes.

I use the hair typing system for general purposes only. There really is no other way to use it.

ITA. Don't spend too much mental space trying to figure it out and making it apply to your hair-it'll never make sense because it's not accurate (IMO).

How about we just forget the whole typing thing and any systems we might come up with just enjoy our hair?

I like the person who likened this hair typing madness to trying to categorize the wide spectrum of complexions black people have.

Tru dat :yep:

I wouldnt try to type wet hair. We all know wet hair doesnt look or behave as dry hair does. In a pool my hair could look 2b/c but that isnt my hair type. :ohwell::nono:But if you dont like the way the hair typing categories are set then dont use them. Its not that serious...

LOL @ Timbuctoo!

Most natural hair will be different when wet. My hair would probably be a 2a/b when wet or maybe even a 1 in certain places, but that doesn't really make any difference on my dry hair :nono:

Hair typing is so difficult, because we all have
1. different hair types - certainly more than 4 types
2. different products
3. different techniques
4. live in different climates
5. different lengths
etc etc

All these things affect the way your dry hair turns out. So...hair typing is very difficult! :D

it took me a few months to figure out my hair type and sometimes when i look at my hair i think did i get it wrong is it x hair type instead of what not.

i'm just sticking to what i think i am but i'm not to bothered as long as my hair is healthy and growing

Hair typing is just so retarded. And I really don't understand the point, because if you say its a product thing...I use things that anyone uses, 4b, 4a, 3c, 3b, relaxed, texlaxed. There really is noooo poooint!
