Sabino Moisture Block experiment/challenge?

Those who have already used SBM to flat-iron, would you say that the amount of SBM in one of the sample size vials was enough to protect/coat your whole head of hair? Exactly how much would you need (based on the sample size vials). This question is for SL, APLs, BSL and relaxed or natural heads. If you give an answer, also please tell how thick you'd say your hair is.
I used one and a quarter, I'm relaxed medium/fine strands, a lot of hair though. If I were natural I'd expect to use much more. In fact for the ponytail I know I used more - but what I have on my head would probably be too much for flatironing without weighing it down.

Wow y'all he is such a professional.

Well I tried the SMB on my relaxed hair for wash and go pony, but by the time I put it on the waves were non existent. After I felt the hair was pretty coated (it was damp) I put it in a pony and then patted some water back through the tail to try to active some curl....I don't think it rinsed out MB, though. Still felt "treated" if that makes sense.....I used Fantasia sparklites gel on my tail, scrunching up to hold the waves...it looked pretty wet :yep:. But dry just looked the same as when I did it before.

So I need to try this again.....the problem is the best waves come with nearly soaking wet hair for me....all I did was rinse (head back, combed out then) leaving some Keracare humecto in, then put a towel gently over the hair. The waves hadn't begun to dry when I took the towel off....maybe they are just not curly enough? Or not enough clumping. I want to try his C4CH but I want to use up the brand new Sparklites gel....hmmmmmm.

Next wash, I'll either try another w'n'g, or just use the SMB to airdry in a single braid ponytail (sooooo boring, ).

They sent me two bottles of this c4ch as well with my mb samples, just send an e-mail and they'll send you samples of the gel too. I finally tried the gel and It really works well with the mb. At first I thought it would not work because I'm just used to my sparklites thickness, this gel is not thick, but it did clump the curls and kept it soft and shiny all day. And the best part is the next two days all I had to do was spray some water and fluff it up. THe only thing is the sample size of the bottles are the same as the mb and your hair is way longer than mine so you might need more. hth. Thanks for starting this challenge.

I'm interested, but afraid to let go of my nightly moisturizing. Does this now mean that it will be OK to use a flat-iron weekly due to Sabino use?

Yeah, Malachi, this is what I was thinking too. I have gotten into this co-washing. Been doing it daily, mind you.

On I'll read.

you know I was just going to say something about this and how I plan on incorporating it into my reggie. I used it the other day and I was just in love. I didnt use it with a flat iron but I did use it with a little bit of nexxuss humctress still in my hair and I put the MB on top and it did seal that moisture my curls were popping and they were dark and shiny and yeah i think this is a keeper plus protect from heat damage and reversion!! cant get better than that!!

Yesterday i washed and did a protein DC and then applied some leave-in, coconut oil, and then the SBM. I was happy...yesterday. After my hair dried it felt lighter than my usual 1st day washngo and the curls were defined and everything. I did notice more shrinkage than when I use my usual products and I still had to use FantasiaIC for my frizzy edges but it was looking good. and more shiny than usual.

Tonight my hair still feels soft, very moist (but not wet) and a little greasy, and I'm ready to wash this out. My curls are kind of "mashed" and fro-ish, which never happns when I use my other stuff for washngo. I can usually stretch a washngo for 3 days before completely cowashing or shampooing by spritzing with water and adding a little moisturizer but with SBM i've supposedly water-proofed my air so there's no point in trying to freshen up or moisturize. Since I don't have time tonight, in the morning I will wash and condition for only a few minutes since I have to work and then do a real DC when I get home.

I think I will only be using the SBM as a heat protectant for when I blow-dry and do my flat-iron. IMO, I need more weight in my hair when I do washngos to prevent the tangling from shrinkage and the curlywhirly.

Welcome!

Well, I don't really know how long challenges usually go, but for me I'm going to use just this with only a supporting gel for wash and go's. No other goop. SMB everyday :yep:. If I find my hair to be suffering in anyway then I'll stop but I really don't see that happening.

I don't know if you read that other big long thread, but Mr.Sabino doesn't recommend other leave ins before MB; the water that will be sealed in should be enough to moisturize your hair. Applying other product to the hair before MB may end up diluting your MB and reducing it's effectiveness - making it a water soluable product. Try without the leave in and the oil. Wash and condition, and on the final rinse, don't rinse all the way out. Then apply the MB. I did this yesterday and it feels weird to go without my Salerm21 but BOY is my hair moisturized!!

I've tried them and so far they feel ok, I'll have to give it more time of using to see if it's the bomb or if I can forgo it. I'll try to post a pic so you can see what it looks like.

you're right, he did say to just use regular conditioner, if anything. i may try it again but i dunno. I think I may just keep the SBM for blow drying and flat-irons and perhaps try the C4CH for washngos.

Has anyone compared Sabino Moisture Block to CHI Silk Infusion?

I use it as a leave in regularly, just wanted to know if this was a similar product.

Re: Sabino Moisture Block

Product arrived, finally got to "see" this up close and in person. Lo and behold, SMB is "dimethicone and cyclomethicone". Hot dang. You could have bowled me over with a feather. To refresh memory I researched the two chemicals again (had done so years ago to formulate lotion and body creams).

I got carried away with the frenzy about it here. If this works with my hair I will be formulating my own "serum"; it truly is no biggie and the price I was preparing to pay, well hit my back hand with a wet noodle . . . :nono:. I can truly make my own.

Oh I'm sorry we neglected to tell you that , it was stated often in that other thread. It is these two ingedients mixed a certain way, without anything else that waterproofs. The one is very thick and the other dilutes it.

I was reorganizing my room and i found my samples. I think i may rollerset a piece of my hair to see how it will work.

Yeah, something about the ratio of the 'cones that makes it a superior product.

In other news, I'm still loving SMB. I washed, DC'd, left in a lil' conditioner, and blow dried and my hair came out feeling very nice, moist, and smooth. :yep:

I had to participate in an event yesterday that took place outside. Fortunately, it stopped raining just before it started but the humidity was still high. Since I knew it was raining, I protected my fresh, airdried rollerset with MB, section by section. Then I pincurled it (four pincurls) until it was time to go. I enjoyed swinging my hair for about 3 hours outside.

Since I didn't use heat, my hair wasn't "smooth straight" after the 3 hours, but I still had curls at the ends and the ends were still smooth, not frizzy. Today, after sleeping in pincurls (covered with a satin scarf), my hair was like a regular rollerset, not bushy. :)

I'm a believa! We just got back from our Hawaii vacay and SMB is IT! I used the samples and put on a little too much which left my hair a feeling coated, but I didn't have time to wash it out before we left. I sweated, it drizzled and rained, then the sun came out and I sweated some more. All this with minimal frizz. Pincurled at night and the next day I'm good to go. I almost regretted going swimming because I didn't have the sample with me.

I'm sold. :yep:

I used my sample last month. I should post pictures. Its time for a new flat iron. Anyways I liked the Results of SMB...maybe i should have posted this earlier:look: Besides the Fact that i need a Better Flat iron i still liked the Results. My hair Was not Fully Straighten. Not At all LOL! But i liked the Body and Shine Off to find my camera.

I got my sample of the smb and used it according to the directions. I washed and conditioned and left a bit of conditioner in then applied a dime size of mb, blowdried and flat ironed my natural 4b twa on 400 as recommended. While it was str8t it looked great shiney bouncy all that. then I decided that I wanted my naps back so I shampooed four days later and all my naps are gone ladies. YES GONE:nono: I am so sad right now, after my bc and four months of growing out my hair I had to go try this stuff and now I fear I'll have to go bc again:wallbash: I have hair in the front that is as stright as relaxed hair and also a patch in the back and my curls are not tight at all it looks so bad, like a wet rat. I can't believe I did this I'll have to shave my head this weekend I can't do anything with it. I wish I could post a pic:nono:

I'm sorry to hear this too. Mine took quite a few washes to bounce back. I also had to do some protein as well. How high was the flat iron?

Does anyone know if SMB is a heat protectant?

I posted this in Bre's thread, but...I'm wondering if it isn't the conditioner left in that makes the difference...

I ran out of my samples a long time ago. I flat ironed my hair over the weekend and went to two outdoor events. No reversion. What I did...Kiyafizzled, sectioned, put Sunsilk Straighten Up conditioner in each section (a good amount of it), then lightly blowdried. I used a little Fantasia heat protectant serum (the sample they give with the gel) on each section before flatironing. I then put some Aveda anti-humectant in (which never works for me) and rolled it up for the night.

The next day, I went to my events, and my hair didn't puff at all. I don't doubt that SMB works, because it worked when I used my samples, but my con method worked too, so who knows?
