Can\'t wait any longer...I\'m getting a touch-up!

I got a relaxer touch-up on April 27, 2004 and my hair came out straight...

I got another relaxer touch-up June 13, 2004 and my hair came out UNDERPROCESSED. So right now, I have almost 12 weeks of new growth!

I usually relax every 4-6 weeks. Just recently, I had set my goal to do the extend the relaxer touch-up challenge and relax every 12 weeks which would mean my next touch-up would be in September. Since I already have approx. 12 weeks of new growth, I'm going to go ahead and relax my hair today! I'm an impatient person and I want to see how much longer it is.

Do you guys think this okay based on my goals and also with my hair being underprocessed???

If it is under processed then it would be good to re-due it. However just leave it on underprocess hair for a little as time as necessary (usually 5 minutes). Next time if you think it is underprocess re-due your hair exactly one week later.

The problem is can you tell the difference between the new growth and the underprocess. One would need more time then the other. If you are unsure go to a stylist you trust.

My mom has been the only one to do my relaxers ever since I was young...that's the only person I trust to do my relaxers.

Poohbear, even though it came out underprocessed, that was still only a month ago that u put chemicals in your hair.

Could u possibly wait 2 more weeks so at least thats 6 weeks? I dont want you to end up messing your hair up. If you are attempting to fix underprocessed hair, that can be tricky and u may need to go to an actual salon. I have underprocessed hair too, but I would never try to fix it myself and am even unsure about letting a stylist fix it. think about it, if some of your roots are underprocessed and the rest is virgin hair(maybe 1/2 inch), and u apply relaxer to the whole area, u will probably then OVERprocess the part that was underprocessed....I just dont know about that.

if u do it let us know how it turns out~

I've gotten a touch-up in 3 weeks before! Before trying to stretch my relaxer time, I have relaxed every 4-6 weeks before. It didn't mess up my hair.

well whatever works for u then
I used to relax my hair(entire head) that often back in high school(didnt know better) and my hair looked like a hot mess -dry,brittle,thin,see through, broken...just about any adjective that described unhealthy hair.

My hair just cant handle that kind of stuff. Now since Ive grown it out from scratch and only get my new growth relaxed, its doing wayyyyy better, but even now its still delicate and fragile so the least thing will cause damage. Ill never do any of those things again and the soonest Ill ever retouch is 8 weeks.

Goes to show u different things work for different heads of hair I guess...

Re: Can\'t wait any longer...I\'m getting a touch-up

Last night I got my touchup. I told my mom to relax JUST the new growth, NOT my entire hair. I took pics on my phone and right now, my phone is getting on my last nerves b/c it won't send pictures to my email so I can save them on my computer and upload them on my album!

I did get some scalp burns (never had any since a long time ago) because when I got the relaxer in my hair, I had to use the bathroom (did a #2
). So the relaxer was in my hair for like 20 minutes (never had it in that long!
) My scalp was throbbing and I rushed to get my mom to wash it out. My mom used Elasta QP and after it ran out, she put Motions on my hair. (That might not have been a good idea
). But my hair came out bone straight and it looks longer too! I'll post a separate thread when I get my freakin' phone to work!!!

Make sure you take care of it, because all of that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen to me. Underprocessed hair, having the relaxer in too long, relaxing 4 weeks after you just did it, and then getting bone straight result is like compounding nono upon nono upon nono.

Condition it like you life depends on it.

Ditto! And watch your hair closely...if you see more shedding than normal in the next few days use aphogee and do a deep conditioner...just be real careful with your hair for the next few weeks...make sure to moisturize and con wash and try your best to skip heat....Now is not the time to skimp on products or cut out steps to save time.

Maybe I am paranoid these days...I'm getting real sensitive and nervous about using chemicals that close together...baby your hair you don't want any setbacks after you have been putting in so much effort.
