How do you Moisturize?

Ok, I'm still kind of new and I have washed my hair (natural) and noticed that it often feels dry. Even when I add motion lotion #9, it still feels dry. I added some QP Mango Butter to the ends and it felt better, but what are you ladies doing to make your hair feel like it's not brittle and dry? What products do you recommend and/or use?

Thanks Ladies. I'm starting to feel better. I did a wet bun this morning and tried to comb through my hair this evening and I felt like the hair underneath the surface was just rough and dry. The mango butter has helped.

I'm interested inthe Glycerine Spray - where do I get that? Also, I may try to use the olive oil too - I have some here already.

I do daily conditioner washes with Suave and leave-in some conditioner and Vatika oil. The conditioner washes are a definite help in moisturizing my hair because of the frequency and volume of water my hair gets exposed to and because I'm not stripping as much sebum as shampooing does.

you can buy just glycerine or you can buy curl activator or pretty much any moisturizing spray that have water and glycerine as the first 2 ingredients if you dont like the idea of using activator

If you are not on the conditioner only method, or you've altered it, try adding some liquid d-panthenol to your shampoo. It gives a lot of moisture and is really nourishing to your hair. You should be able to find it at any healthfood store at a reasonable price.

I use carrot oil creme after spraying with Infusium 23 to keep in the moisture. I also spray braid spray on my hair throughout the day.

What they said

Remember, especially if you're 4b, our texture soaks up water like a sponge. Water IS moisture so try sealing that moisture in with the mango butter and letting it air dry. You might also wanna purchase some vegetable glycerin (like Shatani said). It draws moisture TO your hair.

This is so interesting to me, b/c I press, my hair salon that specializes in pressing hair always said that "moisture" was bad for keeping your hair straight. I always had soft hair with my presses (it never felt dry), but it was mainly from Dudley's cream press and bees wax I guess, and Vitamin E Hair oil. Now that I haven't pressed, it and am washing it, it sometimes seems dry.

I have washed it 4 times in 1 week all with shampoo. I never thought that it might be too much shampoo stripping the moisture. Previously, I only washed 1 every 2 weeks.

This is an interesting journey and hair experience.

I want to achieve the hair growth that I'm seeing proven with you guys experiences and pictures to show it's the truth, and I am a firm believer in if you keep doing what you're doing - you keep getting what you're getting, so if you want to get something different you've got to do something different.

So, I'm trying to adhere to the advice on this board. I'm learning and hopefully making some paradigm shifts - like with the whole "moisture" is bad thing, and who knows maybe I'll even try condition washes. Never tried that before.

Thanks Everybody.

i was using Scurl and Elasta QP Mango Butter until I found Surge. I just use the Surge and the Mango Butter and it's a good moisturizer for my hair.
