Bone Combs...WOW!

Anyone who hasnt invested in one of these, this should be the next thing u buy--no lie! I have been reluctant to buy any because I used to think a comb was a comb and that as long as it was wide toothed it didnt matter.

Well, as soon as I got my bone combs, I immediately noticed there was NO hair in my comb when I combed it. I always get hair in my comb, but I can comb it root to tip and it doesnt rip my hair out.

It makes me think that some of what I thought was breakage was really the seams in the comb tearing my hair out. I cant wait to try it on wet hair to compare the difference in loss.

I ordered mine online, there is a site called hairsense.com that has them, but I found them on sale on another site...I got them from http://www.colordesignsystems.com/nuboneblk.htm

I just noticed they have the black in a set of 3 for 15.95 which is a better deal bc I bought the regular colored ones 3 at 6.95 each....wish Id noticed this first! But Im still thrilled with my investment!

I have a rattail bone comb. It is very gentle on my hair, in spite of the closely spaced teeth.

I got 2 of my combs from colordesignsystems and 1 from hairsense.

I'm glad you like them Leslie.

My brown ones tend to get "ashy" unless I oil them. I wonder if the black ones do that? I don't believe it affects the quality though.

i'm glad you are enjoying your new comb. have you ever tried the jilbere shower comb? if so, is the bone comb comparable??

ladylibra, I do have the jibere shower comb too, and while it is better than a regular comb Im in love with the bone combs. But the jibere was an improvement....
the true test will be detangling after my wash. I usually get a small ball of hair each time, so Im going to compare.

maybe Ill do one wash/detangle with my old comb and a few days later do one with my bone comb and compare the size of the ball....lol

yeah thats right, I also saw those AFTER I ordered mine...lol, but the whole set of those look pretty fine toothed and I really like wider teeth combs.

let me know how u like them zuppy! I might want to buy that set too since I already got my detangler I wanted. these look like they would be good for wrapping and rollersetting.

Ugh! Leslie, I could have done without your enthusiastic promotion this morning.

Seems like every time I turn around, I'm IN NEED of another hair product. PJ'ism will be the death of me!!

I didn't see a description for bone combs. Are they seamless? What's the big benefit? I already have the Jilbere comb.

I ordered 3. 2 large detanglers and they sent me a black full volume comb. I love how the detanglers go through and separate the strands etc. and the black one glides through nicely. I am totally thrilled with the results and knowing that I am not damaging my hair and use on wet hair. The large combs I had already was my large Ric Carpenter hand carved wooden comb and a synthetic bone that was not the Hairsense type if you get my meaning. Bonjour

shawnee, the ones they sell in BSS's are fake. you can tell because even though they are labeled bone combs and are the same caramel color, they are plastic, lightweight, and have seams. I bought a whole pack for $2 before I figured out what real bone combs are.

I utterly love your thread because I could talk about bone combs for days. Got mine from Hairsense a long time ago now and have been nothing but pleased. They are SO gentle on the hair, both wet and dry.

I'm glad you mentioned this site. I love the look of the black combs there. I wish they had a huge detangler in black.

One tip I wanted to pass on to you when you are detangling your WET hair. I did this by accident and was amazed. I use the large detangler from Hairsense.com. Instead of holding the comb horizontally in relation to your hair when you comb, hold it vertically. Basically, the same direction as your hair hanging down. Begin combing your sections if you do and I think you will be quite amazed. I truly was. The tangles just fell out, but no hair came out. Be gentle and I think you will watch the hairs just unravel. This is from a person who gets a tangles when hair is wet

And, Hairlove, I think with the dry water most of us deal with, it's natural for the organic resins to get a bit dry. If your combs are really filled with product, wash them with water and a mild detergent first, then use Murphy's Oil Soap. It's tremendous. And, for sure, once a month, oil your combs with something like olive or avocado butter. The butters seem to be much more easily controlled with the combs. Then, just let them sit overnight so the oils can soak in well.

I am glad this post is here; I was going to mention this myself. I ordered my first comb from a member here and LOVED it. I was surprised to see that the BBS in NYC (116th street/3rd Ave) carries them for a great price.
