holiday hair dilemma

Ok, so im going on holiday to Kenya for 3 weeks (maybe 4) over the christmas period   and although im excited im also slightly worried for my hair. Ive only just got to the stage where im happy with my hair and its looking....well its looking kinda good to me!! finally!! these are my concerns.....
  • For some of the holiday im going to be somewhere where running water and electricity is practically not available. Theres water but someone will have to fetch it ( that someone will be me if its for my hair!) Electricity can be provided by a generator but this wil mostly be in the evening. Bascially it will be a hassle. So to recap thats NO electrcity, running water, conditioning cap, styling tools!! Im excited honestly, and maybe the lack of heat will be good for my hair ( but ive cut back drastically on the heat in the last few months).
  • There are salons in the town but as im not a regular i dont know how they are going to handle my hair, but im assured they are ok, but im still worried.
  • For some of the holiday il be nearer to the city so il there will be electricty and running water and other luxuries im so fond off. So in this respect i can just do my hair as i usually do. Or go the salon. But the co-washing ive been doing so often is not going to practical.
  • The climate change is also worrying me. I live in the UK.....COLD and im wondering whether the heat is going to make a difference to my hair?
Im wondering what i should do with my hair (texturised but looking more and more relaxed every time i go to get it done :ohwell:) ?? braid it?, weave it? or ???? Maybe im just being too over protective with my hair but i dont want any set backs so im thinking if i sort out a stratergy now it'll be fine.

Any suggestions would be great!!

Girl, I would just throw it in some cute braids or a quick weave. Bring your braid spray and you're good to go. The no electricity/water thing is the reason why I suggest this.

I agree you could do braids or a quick weave...braids would be easier because you don't have to "take it off" every night.

You could also use this time to rock braid outs....as long as you can fetch water you could put water and conditioner into spray bottle and do your braidouts/twistouts for the time you will be away from running water and electricity.

I personally wouldn't go to a salon, just because you don't know what they're going to do, and since we at LCHF are particular about what stylists do at here at home, I would be even more worried abroad...but that's just me!

Have fun in Kenya!! I hope to go there some day.

Yeah, I would do intense DC's before going. I would stay away from the salons though. Someone on here had a bad experience in Liberia. I think braids are a weave or your best options. Enjoy your holiday!

If you want to wear your hair loose I would suggest doing braidouts. You can have a small spray bottle of water (which you can make up in advance if possible) and use this to moisten your hair, then apply some moisture, and braid your hair up in 6-8 braids. I would braid my hair up at night and then let it loose in the morning.

This is what I did when I went camping last year. I didn't wash my hair (I wasn't there that long anyway), just did my braidout routine (I used Cantu Shea Butter leave-in for my moisture). I got a lot of compliments on my hair that weekend and I only needed minimal product and effort.

Have fun on your trip. :)

Yeah, up your dc'ing and get a good protein dc in about a week before you get the braids in, so your hair will be nice and strong. I don't know of any good braid sprays, but you can use google :yep: Just go to google and type in:

I just came back from Nigeria on saturday, I mixed up a batch of rosewater, glycerine and aloe juice which I sprayed on my twists daily I also co washed every other day due to the intense heat. Braids are a good option no fuss, take a shampoo so you can wash your braids weekly. Knowing Africa I'm sure you'll want to get some inexpensive braids before you come back to the UK.
