Late pass for glycerine!!!

I know that many of you have been singing the praises of this clear liquid from heaven for eons now, but I didn't heed the call for simplicity and softness.

Last night I finally decided to give to give it a chance and after applying MT to my scalp, massaged a dollop of glycerine to sections of my hair in preparation for a braidout, then sealed generously with coconut oil.

My hair has typically been drier than a barrel of hay, drier then my hands in the winter, drier than a sandwich without mayo, you get the point.

OMG, this morning I took a braid out, and I'm literally astounded my hair feels so friggen soft I can't believe it. Even with moisturizers like Cantu, after a few hours my hair is dry again. Its been about 15 hours and my hair is soft to the touch and well moisturized!

I'm about to climb to the roof of my building and yell to all female passerbys with crunchified hair to run to CVS and get some!

I'm rambling but I really haven't been this happy for months now and lost much hair from dry breakage. I feel stupid for spending sooooooooooo much $$$ on products that didn't do anything.

Can it be that it was all so simple?

Glad you had awesome results...

It would be safer next time to mix the glycerine with your oil ...Or someting else...Direct contact of glycerine to the skin can cause serious damage....

I absolutely love glycerin. I have a gallon on hand. I use it straight and mix it with my leave-in, conditioners and sometimes even henna.

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!! That's why humecto worked for me until all the other crap in it ruined glycerin's effect (humecto is basically water + glycerin and some preservatives). But yeah it's one of my staples now.

Where can you find glycerine? What do you usually mix with it? Can I spray it on my hair as a moisturizer, or do I spray it on while my hair is wet?

I love this too. Its been great in my transition hair and just took my hair out of braids and made it so easy to comb and left it so soft and moisturised. NB - i mis with Aloe and cheapie conditioner.

You can see it here with the middle of my hair - the toughest part if my hair.

where?: ebay & most pharmacies get the vegetable grade glycerin

what & how: on hair after deep conditioning or co-washing without mixing

OR mix with aloe vera juice or rose water and spray onto dry hair (I

recommend you seal with an oil like coconut but I use almond oil. Up to

you what you use). Try it you'll LOVE it

Direct contact to your skin should not cause you any damage since glycerin is a skin protectant. It's also a humectant which is why it's a great moisturizer. I use my glycerin straight and I love it.

BTW, Traycee you look gorgeous in your avi.:yep:

okay, i was starting to get paranoid (oh how suggestible i am).

I did notice when I put it in my hands and rub them together, that I experienced a slight warming sensation, maybe it's just me.

Glycerine is not harmful at all. It's derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. There is even "food grade glycerine" that can be ingested internally for sore throats, etc - it's in the pharmacies - straight up or with some flavouring added.

I regularly used pure glycerine on my wet skin after a shower to trap moisture. I found the effect lasted longer than using baby oil the same way. But now Johnson's got hip to the game and have a baby oil gel, which is basically Baby oil mixed with glycerine.

The only thing I would watch with glycerine is that because it's a humectant, it absorbs water. So if you're going to apply it to your skin or hair, it's best to apply it to wet skin or wet hair / mix it with water, otherwise it will be sticky on application and/or crispy when it dries. This is especially true if you live in a dry environment. Like any humectant, it needs to draw water from somewhere to work properly.
