I was just wondering how you ladies felt about celebrating Christmas. My cousin sent me an email about how Christmas is evil. I would really like your input on this ladies. Let me know if you ladies would like for me to post the email.

Regarding your cousins email, "We've" heard it all. :yep:

Here Angel, get a nice cup of warm tea; put on some snuggly warm socks and relax while reading this thread on your topic.

To answer your question:

Celebrating the Birth of Jesus Christ is not a sin. Neither is not celebrating Christmas a sin. Many Christians have strong feelings for both, and they should each be respected.

Your cousin has her convictions and only she and the Lord can share them. Christians who do celebrate Christmas also have their convictions which again is between them and the Lord.

In both 'beliefs', each are honoring God in the way they feel is appropriate and God honors both.

Historically and chronologically, the actual birth of Jesus did not occur in the calendar month of December. To be accurate, His actual birth occurred sometime during the autumnal equinox (September - Fall Season); but nevertheless, His birth is still honored and revered just as Holy though it is celebrated in December.

No matter what, Jesus is the Reason for celebrating this Season and it will never change. It's a time when all of the world, stops and recognizes that something did occur in History that has changed the course of history forever. :heart2:

To God be the Glory and to the Highest King and Lord of All. Peace on Earth to all, no matter who celebrates or not. It's still the Love of God that rules and reigns forever more. In Jesus's name, Amen.

Thank you Shimmie. I was really hoping you would come in and give your opinion.
Awwwww, you're a sweet angel.

S.O.S. I have too many :lachen:

But enjoy and love your cousin and her views; and don't you hesitate to enjoy Christmas the way you feel lead to of the Lord. Both of you are showing God how much you love Him and He loves you both right back. :yep:

There's not an answer in the middle. Personally, I don't make any special recognition of Christmas. My family does celebrate it though. It makes my mother happy to have me attend church with her (along with my brothers) on Christmas Eve so I do it. I've told her I don't do Christmas and I'm hoping she understands that more next year when I move away from giving gifts. If someone doesn't celebrate Christmas I don't really feel it's fair to expect them to participate in Christmas traditions.

Yes, we celebrate Christmas but don't tie it into Christ because there is no Christmas in the bible. We do however use it for a time to be with family in love.

My answer is somewhat in between. As I noted in another thread, my faith does not officially recognize Christmas or Easter as Christian holidays but leaves it the individual to decide what their actions will be. We are, however, counseled to recognize that this is a time where many people are receptive to the gospel message, creating opportunities to witness. There are positive activities that we can and should engage in such as feeding the homeless, giving to the needy etc. - so we should join in those aspects of the season. So in that way my answer is yes and in other ways, my answer is no.

That being said, my family raised me to know the true origins of both ...holidays, but my mother loves trees and ornaments. So I'll help her when I'm there, but I refrain from those aspects in in my own home. There's still a spirit during the season that is wonderful. I do enjoy seeing the trees and lights, smiles on children's faces etc. I love the hymns about Christ's birth (year-round) and cultural Christmas songs too. But I do my best to keep things in perspective...

:amen: Sis... Amen! He is worthy to be celebrated.

More than worthy...

If I can personally celebrate an inch of hair growth or the loss of 10 pounds, or the gain of a new friend, than how much more to be in celebration of Him... being born and all else that follows.

But to each his/her own. As long as we all call Him and know Him as Lord.... Praise God for all of His glory. :love3: :Rose: :love2:

Hugs to you, Angel. :love3:

I celebrate Christmas but at present I do believe that the meaning has been lost in translation. I pray that next year I can do something different.

I definitely celebrate Christmas! More from a designated birthday celebration for my Lord and Saviour.

I realize that people go off on a santa tangent, but I could care less about him.

I think its marvelous in Gods infinite wisedom that He set aside a time frame for us to celebrate peace and goodwill towards our fellow man. A time that most reconcilations occur, time for folk to get a break from work, a time that forces us (in the secular sense) to think about others. He knew we would "mess" it all up. He knew we would worship the idol santa and He allowed us this time anyway! That is an awesome God we serve.

And when I think it about that way, I have no problem glorifying Jesus at this time while others are putting themselves in debt.

Praise be to God, and hallelujah!

I celebrate Christmas!! :yep: It is a time where I celebrate God's love. For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten son. It is also a time I celebrate God bridging the gap and being with us always("Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel - God with us"). I give gifts during Christmas because it's a visible show of love ... God's love. Not only to family and friends but to the poor and destitute so they can know His love. To me, Christmas is a special time for loving and giving and above all remebering and celebrating God's love for us and all humanity, and God being with us.
