Scalp sorness and pain!?

I am currently trying to stretch my relaxer touchup as long as possiable and right now I am on week 6 or 7 but my scalp hurts so bad. I know I wash my hair enough so its not dirty and I have been wrapping my hair and not curling it ever since my pity party thread. What could be causing my scalp to be sore; should I go ahead and relax it now? I do have a nice amount of new growth.

This happens to me also. Every time I get to week 6 like clock-work I get the sore scalp. I think it's because I try to go a whole week without washing prior to the touch-up. Stretching relaxers is not for everyone -- certainly not for me. Maybe the other ladies can help you out.

Some times when my scalp is sore/itchy, a growth spurt accompanies it. Maybe that's what's happening to you? Also, perhaps you should clarify your scalp?

Generally, I don't think you should have chemicals applied to your scalp if it's sore or itching, though. Maybe you should wait another week? A lot of ladies, myself included, have had adverse reactions when getting relaxers in the midst of scalp problems.

I really wouldn't recommend it at the moment.

Another thing, wrapping the hair with pins can cause a sore scalp. It could be that.

i know for me, my scalp gets terribly sore whenever it's producing a lot of new growth....i take care not to comb or manipulate my hair around that time... the soreness usually subsides in a couple of days.....

YOu should use something to sooth your scalp. Like Sulfare 8 light formula or Root Health by..Profectiv(sp)

I'm experiencing this right now. I am about 4 weeks post relaxer and pray that the soreness is because of a growth spurt. I just started taking taking 1000 mcg of biotin and MSM, so we well see.....

A male hairstylist told me that this is an after affect from your hair growing and pushing through the scalp. He said you get a sore scalp when you receive a lot of this growth at one time. This especially happens when your in extremely extended post relaxer stages and when your hair is very thick and coily.

This is such a great place. I have been getting sore spots and really didn't think much of it. I would usually just massage it a little with some oil and hope the pain woild go away. NOW I know it was my hair growing. Learn something new everyday.

Thanks Ladies

Hey, I experience that quite often, I could say. Not every week or anything, but maybe once or more times a month. It's usually when I wake up in the morning, and I wake up feeling like I've been whacked on the head or something. My scalp is sore and it hurts, so I massage it and stuff. I thought it had something to do with my health or something. I'm not completely convinced that it has to do with new growth, but if it does, then great. I've been experiencing some itching too these past couple of days. I did a conditioner wash on Wednesday, and yesterday*Thursday*, my scalp was itching like crazy. It kinda itched today too. Maybe it's the Minoval, because I"m doing a month-long Minoval experiment to see if it works.

I use to have this problem. I would hurt so bad that I couldn't wash it much less comb it and the itching would drive me crazy. I went to a dermatologist and she couldn't find anything wrong. I watched it for about 3 months and I notice that it would only occur either just before my period or right after. I started drinking more water and taking a multi-vitamin and I notice that it hasn't happen in a while.

Hair Power!
This happens to me quite often around the time of my monthly. Sometimes I even had two sore spots at the same time.

When I was in my 2-3 month of transitioning, I had the biggest headache and soreness of my scalp. I couldn't think straight and it would hurt when I laughed. I took some Tylenol PM and I also massaged my scalp with my fingertips which helped sooth the soreness. How long are you trying to stretch your relaxer???
