jet black hair and light skin

I think it has more to do with your undertones rather than your actual skin color. I have two different light skinned friends, who have or had jet black hair. One looked washed out and pale, and the others looked fantastic on her. It may not be the best look for someone with, say, yellow undertones(example) JMO.

Absolutely!

If you are light with more olive tones, its easier to pull it off without looking washed out than someone with strong yellow golden tones.

I love it! Like Sylver-2 said, very exotic looking!
I heard that coloring your hair black is more healthy than the other colors. TRUE??

That's what I used to think, but I was told that its as harsh as dying your hair blonde.

It depends on the dye.

People generally say that because you can do black and other dark colors without having to use developer via semi permanent rinses.

But if you are using permanent color, you are still exposing yourself to the same levels of peroxide used when people go 1-2 shades lighter. I don't know if I would say blonde because most blonde colors on naturally dark hair require developer and a lifter/bleaching agent which ups the ante in terms potential damage. (but you can go blonde without bleach, it just takes longer)

I went jet black about two years ago and loved it! It was weird though because the "semi-permanent" color turned out to mean permanent for me, and I ended up having to grow the color out. :ohwell: It is a flattering look though, I think the only people who can't pull it off are extremely pale white people because they just look goth, and that's not cute to me. :nono:

I agree with the bolded. :yep:

Wow I guess I dont know what "light skinned" is anymore. I dont consider Beyonce light skinned but everyone else seems to  To me she's just brown. I'm waaay lighter than her and I'm only "kinda" brown with a tan and only during the summer. My skin is closer to most white peoples than most blacks the rest of the year. I dyed my hair oriental black with bigen once to cover a *cough* dye job gone green and at first I was taken aback but it grew on me. I was relaxed with shoulder length hair then and I agree with the poster who said it looks better on straight hair, imo.

third that motion ..

I look washed out with jet black hair ...it really depends on your pigment ....I needs me some color ...when I put on a jet black wig ..I look like a witch:nono:.

But I have seen some gorgeous heads of black hair on LHCF

Funny you should say that about looking like a witch. Several years ago, I colored my hair jet black and EVERYONE said I looked like a witch. Never did that again...:nono:

And why is that? Could you explain this a little bit more? Please:yep:

I think a cooler skin tone goes better with jet black (like olive skin) compared to warmer skin tones that usually look better with warmer/softer colors like dark brown or honey brown hair.

I look great in black hair and black clothes, because I have a cool skin tone. I get so many compliments when I dye my hair jet black. :yep:

Unfortunately, I might have to go lighter in the future due to my many gray strands. :perplexed There's nothing worse than having white roots and jet black hair lol!

I don't think it matters, looks fine to me, my mom is actually light (not what people consider light but it's brown shade lol) and keeps her hair jet black looks beautiful.

What colors I think people need to be easy with are blondes, reds etc. when used on the wrong skin tone can look very horrid. But black is universal imo EXCEPT on white people that are like extremely pale (that popular burlesque dancing chick forgot her name).

I think it depends on your undertones sometimes. I think most people look good with it but my sister in law, who is very very light did it and it made her look extremely washed out especially in pictures. My bff is about the same complexion and dyes her hair black all the time and it looks gorgeous. I think because my SIL has really pinkish undertones and my BFF has more of a gold tone to her skin.

I love it...i now just keep my hair dyed black even though my natural hair color is off black---but i think it makes my hair look thicker when i actually have fine hair.

My coworkers are lighter then me and ive seen two of them wear jet black hair and it looks good on them...

In high school, I dyed my hair with some semi-permanent Clairol box color called Egyptian Plum. It basically turned my hair black with a purple-ish tint in the sun. I remember being terrified when my hair dried because of how pale it made me look (to make matters worse, it was in the winter). Once I got over the initial shock, I thought it looked really cool.

I'm so glad to hear so many of you have done this and it looks good. I've been wanting to do this but my beautician(s) wouldn't do it. I've asked four of them over the last 15 years and they all told me "NO".

I was told I would look like Elvira (my coloring was all wrong). Now I'm thinking about doing this all over again!!

well i dont know how light i am compared to bey (apparently i think i'm darker than what i am but i think they're just trippin) and my natural hair color is black. and not like an ash black or brownish black. i'm talking BLACK, in the sun there are no highlights or anything lol just black! and i love it.

i bleached a few yrs ago to go to like a coffee brown which was nice but i went back to black... it works on me lol
