Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola

I wanted to start a new thread. I said I was getting BKT in the other thread but it was actually Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola.

I have pics in my siggy, on my blog, and in my fotki. If you're curious about it, I have answered many questions on my blog. LINKS IN MY SIGGY.

I did it because I wanted to show women other options besides relaxers. Relaxers are permanent (or at least until your hair grows out). This keratin washes out after 3-5 months depending on how much you wash and the tightness of your curls. Unlike relaxers you don't have to keep getting it over and over again. You can decide at any time you don't want to do it anymore. Everytime it is applied it is applied from root to tip.

I think some people go natural and want a change and go back to relaxers and end up not liking their hair with the relaxer and end up BC'ing. With this treatment your hair gets straighter when you straighten and less frizzy when you wear it in a natural state. So you get the best of both worlds.

I'm only on Day 3 so I can't say if I like it or not. I'm not recommending it or not not recommending it. Just sharing my experience. Right now it just looks like a regular blowout. I am super anxious to see what my hair looks like with a rollerset and then in a natural state. I'm like 95% sure that I'm just going to have reduced frizz and maybe looser curls for the next 3-5 months until it is washed away.

It's not natural or organic like the company is suggesting. In fact, you have to be a stylist to even get the ingredients. My advice ASK QUESTIONS ASK QUESTIONS ASK QUESTIONS. Make sure your stylist shows you the ingredients and make sure all your questions are answered before doing anything.

I don't know if I will ever get it done again because of the chemicals but through my research and interviews I came to the conclusion that there was no harm in just trying it once.

That's that.

I love your hair curly and straight- I hope it works out well for you esp since you didn't really like the Sabino to well. I think its a good way to make it through the summer if you want a straight look. If I had the money I would probably try it to.

I read this on your Blog last night. I love the results. I wana see what happens when you wash it over the months and it goes back to your natural state. If it works, then I'll be sold!!! Lovely though...

I definitely think this latest version of Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola and the latest version of BKT are safer than it's first generation counterparts. They have improved the formulas to make them safer. They know that people won't use products that aren't good for them anymore so they are really on their P's and Q's. They are under some serious magnification. Hopefully they keep coming up with new technologies to make the products even safer. I definitely think you should be concerned and if you're still unsure after you've researched it or if you have any doubts JUST DON'T DO IT! We do need to really think about stuff before we jump in. I also think people with family history of any types of illness esp. cancer should really be alert and conscious of what they are doing.

Your hair looks great.

I was reading about this on your blog last night. Do you think someone that has a relaxer and wants to grow their hair out should try this?

I am asking because you stated it was a chemical. I am not sure how the relaxer chemicals and the chemicals from the keratin smoothing therapy might react.

Thanks for starting this thread. :)

Thanks for your feedback ST!! I read about the Caribbean Dream relaxer, have you heard about that? I used a "naturalaxer" some years ago and my hair hit the floor so I am somewhat reluctant to try the Caribbean Dream although I heard it is chemical free. I am not; however, afraid to try the BKT or Coppola EXCEPT for the chemicals. I (obviously) don't want cancer or anything from trying the chemicals I just wonder what the risk is if I use a formeldahyde free formula. :drunk:

I wouldn't touch the Caribean. I was doing research and it's thio based from what I hear, as they are hard at giving out the ingredients (I had to look long and hard).

The BKT is actually rinsed out so the formaldehyde goes with it in the wash.

You are exposed btw to formaldehyde on a daily basis from baby wipes to the pressed wood (if you have any in your house), to other materials used to make houses (it lingers), to carpet cleaners, and nail polish, and remover, and cosmetics and they have a cumulative formaldehyde effect and you haven't dropped yet. In addition embalmers also are exposed on daily basis. You just need ventilation when you use it w/ the heat, and then of course rinse it out.

I'm SO going for the BKT!

You should talk about that with your stylist when you find one that can do it. It can be used on color treated hair. That's all I know. You can also visit that website or call them directly and ask.

You're welcome. I've heard about CDR. It never really piqued my interest enough to research it in depth.

Ditto on all that some soaps and companies that claim to be organic have some shady stuff going on. But once the keratin is in you can't wash for 72 hours. So it is kind of in there for that long. It turns into a gas though. It's super complicated. That's why people should ask lots of questions. This Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola does contain aldehyde which is supposed to be a safer alternative. I have a link to a whole 400 page thread about it on my blog. You should read it. It's very informative. You can also go on skindeep.com and see that not everything with "aldehyde" in the name is hazardous to your health. Some even have hazard scores of 0.

Southerntease, do you know how much formaldehyde is on this brand?

It does contain aldehyde and that thread I mentioned above and on my blog has all that info. If you have a stylist friend have them call Coppola and they will send them an ingredient list. Perhaps one of the LHCF stylists might be open to posting that. Peer pressure peer pressure.

Just checked out the hazard score thing. It's good to know that the aldehyde or formaldehyde free one's have 0-1 hazard scores which are very very low on the hazard scale. I also checked out the other info on your blog which was very helpful.

Cool! Well the keratin treatments have not made SkinDeep's database yet but if you know the ingredients you can look them up individually. We can also request certain products be added to the database here. You do still have to know the ingredients.

I was curious so I added MegaTek and Ovation because just because their ingredients are readily available on LHCF anyway you can click the link to see the scores. I think more of us need to do that... if nothing else for good karma.

Your hair looks fab. I think I saw this in Ulta this past weekend. I think it was a brown box? I remember thinking that it was the BKT that I read about on here.

No they don't sell Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola at Ulta. You're probably talking about Liquid Keratin. That's the at home version of the keratin treatment.

Your hair is beautiful:eek:!!! I love it natural and BKT'd!!! Wow! I can't thank you enough for posting the results on natural hair!! My natural hair is curly like yours so I think I'll forego relaxing and BKT my natural hair. :evilbanana:

SL is your hair fine, medium or coarse? My hair is about 85% medium at 15% fine.

Thanks !!! Do'nt forget to do your research!!! There are a lot of brands out there and a lot of stylists that don't know what they are doing so be very cautious. My hair is super fine but very dense -- I have A LOT OF HAIR. It has a lot of elasticity -- it's very very strong.

I did the Global but after seeing your results with the Coppola tx I might just do that one myself..lol in a few months!:yep:

My mom and sis are like you, they both have baby fine hair, in terms of strand density, but it's a ton of hair per square inch!

I started to get thisthe treatment done in 2007 by Denise Kingsley in Denver while on vacation. At the time I was 100% natural but I chickened out because it was so new. :perplexed Oh well, I will not relax and see how I do both you and crazedaze have beautiful natural hair. I just love the versatility the Keratin tx allows without having to be stuck with permanent results. :yep:
