Stretch Panic (What do you do)?

I'm going for a 18 Month Stretch. I noticed two nights ago that my ng was starting to dread up by the crown area. I started to panic:wallbash:, but instead I slapped on some Aussie Moist, let it sit in my hair and when I got in the shower it melted away. With all of that said, my question is when YOU stretch, do you cowash more often or just moistore and leave your hair alone?

I try to co wash and DC twice a week but I had surgery on the third this month and wasn't able to wash my hair for about 2 weeks and then I just got lazy and left it alone. I make sure to keep it moisturize w/ HS14n1 at least daily. Right now I'm 6months post and I haven't had any problems yet.

I'm assumming your hair started to dread up b/c it's dry so I would moisturize more. How often are you co washing and what do you use to moisturize your hair with.

That’s what got me all confused. I cowash 2-3 times a week, DC on Friday or Saturday. I baggy 5 days a week and my hair is wet 95% of the time so I’m not sure why it happen. So I’m going to continue to do what I’m doing and hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

I've had my hair lock if I have too much moisture.

In my case it was important not to get too much moisture, and to make sure not to have latent product in my hair. The first time i did a four month stretch, locking and knotting was a HUGE problem. Keeping my NG detangled was the key to avoiding locking for me.

Dry locks are easier to get out than moist locks.

Keep your hair clarified, also. Even if you just have to use baking soda to do so.

Hmmmm....what products are you using? You may be getting too much moisture and have too much elasticity.......Are you using any protein?

Gorgeous hair, you're right, it might be too much moisture. Like I said before, my hair is wet 95% of the time, I baggy Monday thru Friday, and I cowash 3-4 days a week.

Do you think I should cut back on baggying to about 1-2 days for now? I use protein probably once or twice a week. I deep condition all day under my wig every Friday with a protein DC and cowash once a week with a protein.

The one good thing is, my hair isn't breaking or shedding, I just don't want to loose all of my progress from matting or locking.:perplexed

I cowash 3-4 times a week and I'll officially hit 20 weeks post Sun. I DC 2xs/ week, apply 100%aloe vera juice to NG for extra moisture, use a leave in (as needed) and oil nightly. And Clarify as needed...So far so good....

Thanks everyone..I'm going to moisture as needed and not wear my hair wet all day for a while.

Yeah, it definately sounds like you're using WAY to much moisture, especially if you're several weeks post.

I am 7 months post (transitioning). I cowash daily and wash and DC weekly. I do a henna every month. What I do is co-wash in sections in the morning before work. I add a drop of oil to my condish for each section. This helps my NG stay moisturized and makes detangling a breeze.

Your situation sounds like too much moisture. I would try more protein (maybe a light one every 2 weeks) and make sure your hair actually dries out.

This is sound advice. I would also add that if you're doing a whole head baggy, you can put your hair in sections under the baggy. If you need the moisture, it will make it easier to detangle and get out any potential knots.
