Hey,

I wanted to find out if anyone has grown their hair long by wearing single extension braids, if so how?

Thanks xx

Yep. I used synthetic hair, washed weekly with diluted shampoo by applying it to my scalp and letting the gravity take care of the rest. I moisturized with African Royale BRX Braid Sheen ALOT. I also spritzed with an oil- usually coconut. Most importantly, I replaced braids if they grew out often. When I did, I detangled my hair with the braid sheen before putting the new extension in. I went from scraping neck length to scraping shoulder length.

This is what I am doing now. I plan on wearing braids until November 26, 2009. I wore sengalese twist for 45 days. I am now wearing some feeding cornrolls to the back I will keep these in till the 15th then I am going for lacing braids. My hair is becoming extra thick and I like it. I haven't had a perm since November 08 so this is a real big task. I oil it with WGO and spray it daily with water and glycerin. THAT IS IT!

Im currently in box braids also. This past year my hair was mostly in braids and it helped me reach apl. I wash and condition weekly and moisturize with Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1. I also use WGO and infusium 23 spray as needed. I plan to braid it up for the rest of the year because I'm also trying to transition.

i'm on my second installation of box braids and i've already seen growth. i got a couple inches cut before i put in the first set of braids, and that's already back. just make sure you use a braid spray everyday. i use african royale.

i did make a mistake, though. make sure that you get your edges redone every 2-3 weeks. i still have my edges, but they didn't get any thicker.

I am in box braids now and I have been wearing them for 8 weeks and then my hair out for 2 weeks. I have been doing this since Oct. 08. My last relaxer was Sept. 08 and I dont plan on relaxing until Nov. I hope to be APL by the end of the year but if not I will be close. I am in Guam and it is HOT 24/7 here and I have another 3 years left here. I am hoping when I get off the plane back to the States I will be Waist Lenght and my braids will help me get there.

check my fotki; i helped my sister go from NL to APL in less than a year with box braids and kinky twists. it's really a great low-mani style. matter of fact, i'm doing a 2-month HYH challenge with braids in an attempt to retain all my summer growth.

Braids are a great way to retain length. I absolutely love them, but they have done a number on my edges, so I am trying to give them a break for a while. Just remember to keep them moisturized and don't forget to still wash and dc everyweek. And laslty, watch those edges.

Thanks allot ladies, I have a few more q's

I have alot of heat damage would you recommend a good cut before putting braids in?

how do i keep my edges thick/full and growing alongside the rest of my hair?

is kanekolon the best hair fibre to use?

A lot of people follow the Crown and Glory Technique. A very easy to follow regimen from this site: http://growafrohairlong.com/

I went form SL to APL with braids and senegalese twists. The crown & glory method works wonders. (although I liked Better Braids spray way more than African Pride)

If you cut before you get the braids you'll have a lot of blunt hairs sticking out of the braids. I prefer to trim when I take them out.
For your edges, redo the braids every couple of weeks so you don't get the buildup that can rip out hairs when you try to get it out. Don't pull the braids tight and keep your hair moisturized!
I like to massage my edges with mahabringaraj oil, emu oil, MT, OCT, etc. (something that's supposed to help with growth)
I always used kanekalon and didn't have any problems.

HHG!

I did this when I first went natural a couple of years ago. My hairline suffered slightly though but lately I have been thinking of getting extensions again b/c the growth I got was awesome! I went from ear length to a little bit pasted shoulder length in a matter of 8/9 months(I failed to keep track of the products or regimen I used at the time :wallbash::wallbash: and I could kick my own butt for that). One thing I do remember is cw daily b/c I exercised like a crazy person back then and my hair grew so fast.

My daughter and I are in crochet braids (sorry, no pics!). I found toysvoice youtube, ordered Fretress Bodywave bulk hair, cornrowed our hair to the back, and latchhooked the hair under the braids. It's funny how the hair looks loose on my daughter's hair (Think: Joan, from "Girlfriends"), and kinda tightly curled on mine (Think: cornrowed braid-out). Either way, we have both received compliments and I plan to keep them in for the rest of the summer. We'll see how it goes.
