I just dyed my hair and I'm PISSED.....

I wanted my hair to be a burgundy color with redish highlights. These are the two colors that I used:

I applied the dyed then put a plastic cap ond and covered it with a scarf. i kept this on for thirty minutes like the instructions said. I then rinsed the dye out and applied the conditiner that came with the kit. I kept that on for 3 minutes the followed up with Aphogee 2 min, roux porosity, and DC'd with Elasta QP DPR-11 for 2 hours. I just rinsed the DC out and MY HAIR HAS NO COLOR!!!:wallbash::wallbash:. As a matter of fact it looks a little darker than when I started out.

Is there anything I can go to actually make the color show up? I am natural and my natural hair color is a dark brown that looks black.

This happens a lot to people where if you use a darker colored dye, it won't show up as well. It may take a couple of applications for your hair to get to the desired color, but of course coloring over and over again wouldn't be a really good idea. Maybe one more corrective color could help?

What most people have to do is purchase a very bright color and dye their hair with that in order to reach the desired color.

For instance, I wanted to dye my hair a deep auburn color. If I were to just buy a dark auburn color, it would hardly show on my hair. So I had to use a light color, Bronze (Texture & Tones). My hair came out nowhere near as bright as the Bronze color on the box, but I did achieve my deep auburn.

I hope I'm making sense here. I'm sorry your results didn't come out the way you wanted. I've been where you are.

The same thing happened to a lady at the salon today. She was just as pissed and the hair dresser told her that this dye will act as a base so when she does it again the color will be lighter. The woman was pissed, lol.

I highly recommend professional color (the kind you use with a developer) to color your hair...I don't know too many people who have success with box colors unless they are going darker.

Thank You all for your suggestions. Yes this type of dye does dome with a developer. I think that The color will only be noticeable in the sunlight. I'm so bummed because I had visions of me stuntin' on folks tonight when I went out tonight, now I'm so pissed I dont even feel like going out.

I am a natural, trust me I was shocked the color came out

I wonder why the color didn't come out for me. Even when I first rinsed it out the color was not apparent so i don't think doing the extra steps caused the color not to show. Maybe its because I have henna on my hair

Next time you want to do a color like that lighten your hair first with a blond or bronze color as mentioned before then put your colors on after that. Not at the same time though. Do one color process then the next.

It's the henna. I tried coloring over henna and most of my hair only changed slightly. The un-hennaed hair is much lighter than the hennaed hair. At least you didn't pay $80 to get it done. I'm thinking about using a color remover and then figuring out how to get the henna to lighten my hair since permanent color is only going to work on the first couple inches of my hair.

I think it might have been because of all the stuff you did afterward. Maybe you should have waited on the dc'ing and other stuff.

Thanks eveyone for their input. When I was waiting for my hair to dry last night I decided to add more of the red dye to the top middle part of my hair. I prayed that my hair wouldn't fall out:perplexed. Now it's the next day and my hair is dry I can see a def color change, but only in certain areas and only about the first 2 inches. When the light hits it I can see that my hair did take the color, it just didn't make a noticable difference to the eye. I'm thinking about re dying it in a few months to get a more noticable color

This happened to me too, but only that I used a rinse. I was so mad because my idea was to have some highlights of the rinse color in my hair(ive done it before but i think i had to go with a blond or honey blonde rinse to make it noticeable it was so pretty my mom loved it). But i cant get it back for some reason and im scared to go to light even though the box says your hair wont come out to be the exact color on the box but im just scared of a color horror. I'm natural also.

I think that you probably wouldve needed to use a lighter color. Or maybe just go with the lighter red that you had instead of mixing the colors.

I was afraid to go lighter too, even though I knew it wouldn't come out that color. I just didn't want to damage my hair. On the boxes of the dyes they show a chart on the results to expect depending on the color of your hair. Supposedly if your hair is black there should still be a noticable difference. Oh well

I'd also recommend adding protein filler to your mixture the next time you try. I've done this before when adding a burgundy demi-permanent dye and the color took beautifully. BTW, my hair responded the same as yours before the Sally's lady told me this secret...:yep:

What is a protein filler? Is there a specific brand you use?

Protein filler improves the performance and results when coloring porous hair. There are different brands available at Sally's in black, red and brown, but personally I always just choose to buy neutral protein filler which is clear.

Bump... Mz. Princess, judging from the comparison pics in your siggy, it looks like you have since been successful in coloring your hair... would you have an update? Thanks for starting this thread, it's been very helpful.
