Help!! My Ends Are Coming Out!!!

Okay, I'm trying to stay calm, but I don't know for how much longer. I don't know what has been going on with my hair, but my ends have been comingo ut like crazy! I gave myself a light protein treatment on Friday and used that new Jojoba Jelly that I bought of Kinky-Curly, but because my hair felt a little clamly afterwards and I saw so much hair in my hands, I put it up in my usual ponytail. I took it down Monday and all of these ends are still coming out, so I did a deep conditioning and then put it back up in the ponytail. Ends are still coming out!! I have searched on the board for other people who have had breakage issues and it just says to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I have been doing that, and nothing seems to be working! I don't know what to do. Its very discouraging to see all these hairs that do NOT have white bulbs on the ends of them coming out of my hair. Whether its wet or dry, ends are coming out. My mom thinks I am overeacting. It took me too long to get tot his point to start losing hair growth like this. Any suggestions will be gladly taken :crying3:

Do you know if you have hard water? because after I washed and treated my hair with a light protein I noticed the same thing I mean I put my hands on my ends this morning and so much hair came out  I usually wash my hair with bottled water, but I ran out and was too lazy to go buy some. Check to see if your water is hard because it can wreak havoc on the ends.

Do you mean your ends are breaking off?

Hard water and using too many products can cause breakage.

I do have hard water...maybe that is the problem, but it hasn't done this to my hair in the past...any suggestions on how to restore my hair??

And my ends are not necessarily "breaking" off, its more like, everytime I put my hands in my hair, I get a bunch of ends in my hands..

I am sorry to tell you this, but you need to trim those ends. The reason they are breaking off is because they are weak. And unfortunately protein treatments will not help. They are weak because they are the oldest part of your hair and the only way to keep them from breaking off is not to handle your hair at all. But take heart, you don't have to trim off a lot. As little as 1/4 to 1/2 inches will make a world of difference. About 3 times a year my hair will go through this and it's amazing but after I do a trim. The next time I wash my hair, little or nothing breaks off.

I would have absolutely no problem doing this, only thing is that 11 days ago I went to a hair salon for a trim, deep treatment and blowout. She trimmed off about an inch to an inch and a 1/2 of my hair...

Okay if you have done a trim already, try something like TIGI Ego Boost to strengthen your ends. It applys a thin coating on your hair to trap in moisture, but also to strengthen and protect it. Put a moisturizing conditoiner leave in on your hair after you wash, condition and rinse. Then apply a teaspoon to tablespoon amount (depending on the amount of hair you have), rub in your hands and apply to the last two to three inches of hair. You can also reapply once through out the week if you like. I was using it everyday at one time, but now I only do it at wash time, unless my hair starts acting up. You will find what works best for you.

To each his own. :)
Your ponytail may also be putting stress on your hair. If your hair is super moisturized AND it is weak, that may lead to breakage.

Do you AIRDRY :spank:

lol...yes, I do airdry. I have a texturizer so it doesn't really make sense for me to blowdry my hair or sit under a dryer for a couple hours. why, is airdrying bad??

Curlycrly, I also thought about that, but prior to my ends suddenly coming out, my hair hadn't been in a ponytail. I've been "phony ponying" my hair for a couple months and I have never had a problem with breakage. I think it might be the protein. My hair feels so dry, like a straw feeling no matter what I put in it.

I had terrible ends, Same as you would cut them but they would still be bad.
I ditched airdrying and did rollerset under a dryer. It seals moisture in my ends making them straight and sleek.

Do normally try and wear it straight?

DO U DRENCH YOUR HAIR WITH HEAVY MOISTURIZER ie SCurl :spank:

Do you have fine hair?

I ask you all these questions because I was where you were and we can try and elimate whats coursing your problems, some of the most raved about methods to do to are hair sometimes not work for everyone (Esp ME)

It sounds like your hair has over dose of protein. and their is nothing you can do to correct it, the protein was not rinsed all the way from your hair.

I got a dominican blowout 11 days ago. That was the first time my hair had been straight since Oct. 2003. I do not drench my hair with heavy moisturizer because I don't have any of those. I would like some good moisturizer recs. though...and finally, I do have fine hair, which sucks sometimes because no matter what I do, my hair just can't look voluminous like other people's.

Actually, I don't know if it was an overdose of protein. I used one of those 2 minute protein things...you think that's what did me in?? Maybe I need to rinse my hair again?? You think I should one more time? And what should I wash it with??

One of the ladies here (and I'm so sorry that I can't remember her name), used Vitamin E Oil on her dry ends with great success to seal them, and I'm thinking that could also be a problem (ends not sealed) along with the hard water. I was having a very similar problem with my ends last week, and ended up having to cut more of my hair than expected. I was putting more product on them hoping to get them moisturized enough to stop getting hard and breaking, but I wasn't using a sealent. Next time around, I will definitely try the Vitamin E Oil first. HTH! :)

My hard water problem didn't bother my hair much at first but after last summer when I came back to school, I sudenly noticed a change and it's been nothing but problems. My hair has reached a certain lenght and just doesn't like it. I figure it's the older and more fragile ends that's reacting badly.

It could also be the protein, I used to use infusium daily and had that straw/rope like feeling. I haven't used it since Jan. and my hair is soft. I get enough protein from the other stuff I put on my hair.

Ok, I have fine hair like you and I am also looking for a good one. May we can look together.
I am currently using Hollywood Beuty Olive Oil Moisturiser which is very good.
But I want something a little lighter

Whats helps with my moisture is a good deep con, EVERY TIME I WASH.
Was a Keracare Girl, But just tried Nexxuss Humtress its so moisturising it made for fine hair girls like us. Left it FULL, shiney and bouncy. I am 8 weeks post relaxer !

Give rollersetting a try with Nexxuss and see if it work for

hi ginsana,

I'm having the same problem, but not to the extent that you are describing. I think that my ends are weak and over moisturised. My hair is VERY thick, but the indvidual strands are very fine.

I've already trimmed twice, and now Im going to use hask henna and placenta every 5 days, followed by a moist conditioner. I used it yesterday, and noticed a difference in my hair. I may also trim again if needed.

I think the main thing is to not panic and definitely don't start putting all different things in your hair.

I've learnt my lesson :no more moisturisng the ends daily for me.

Like Kizzy said not everything is for everybody!

This is what was happening to me with light proteins, heavy proteins, hot oil treatments, deep conditioning...it stopped when I used shea butter on my wet/damp hair and some Jungle solid conditioner (LUSH product). You have to be on the lookout for what moisturizer works best for you. It's a search, literally. Maybe try something heavy like shea butter...maybe vaseline??
