Am I the only one who 'burrito wraps' my hair??

Hey. I have been on here for a while and have seen many rollersets and all of that. But I havent seen anybody say that they burrito wrap their hair at night. I do it when I plan on wearing my hair down and straight the next day. I have attached a picture. I have more pics in my fotki (PW: knowledge) but you put a scarf on and tie it in the back at the nape, then wrap the hanging pieces over your hair like a burrito. (please excuse the dirty mirror:nono:). But does anybody else use this method at night?? If so, how do you compare it to other methods?? And if so what stuff do you put on your ends?? I use either Morroccan Argan oil (from sallys!) or Coconut oil (from grocery store).

Your hair must be loong to do that :) I used to do something like that when I had my mid back length weave... kept it pretty straight ;-)

@ tuffcookie:: do you find that that dries out your ends?? i used to do that but i roll around too much. so id literally have to put mineral oil on it for any sort of oil left after the night.....
@ firstborn2:: do you just tuck it in the bonnet?? OR does it all fit without any hanging out anywear..... is it a silk/satin bonnet??

@ sweetyb... yeah my hair is almost or skimming (what have u) BSL. ive tried rollersetting but i sleep flat on my belly so that makes an awkward nights sleep. what did you put on your ends?? i was using coconut oil for a while and it was night but a little heavy bc my hair holds oil for a long time. but now im using argan oil from sallys and its much lighter.

What a great idea! I'll have to try that. Just wondering if I can get it to stay on at night.

@ Dak. ill add a pic of the front. but i let it have overhang in the front and double knot it in the back (being sure to avoid getting loose starnds in the knots!) bc that will either stay or allow about 1.5 in for movement throughout the night. plus when i was using satin ones that were stretchy, that made it easier.... oh... also if you get that bump a lot, then use bobby pins or clips. that works for me sometimes.

I did that back in the day when I used to wear long weaves. It never stayed secure though. My hair is not as long as yours, but I cross wrap now to maintain a straight style.

I'm wearing natural box braids right now, I do tuck them under the bonnet and in the morning I refresh with water, the bonnet is silk.

I do this sometimes after a rollerset. I apply a light oil to y ends like Grapeseed oil, Rice Bran Oil or Apricot Kernel Oil. These are all available from the grocery store or the health food store.

I have never heard of that. Will it work with APL hair? Can you share instructions?

Scarfs do not stay on my head. I only use them in a pinch. I have lots of silk bonnets without the rubber band edge. These are a little better.

@ bella atl:: it worked when i had apl hair. i will post a step by step on my fotki (pw:knowledge) to try to explain it in more depth. i put two pics on there already but they are pretty vague.
@ mscocoface:: my only thing with a bonnet is that i move around too much and my hair would be straight in the morning...???

@pokahontas:: thats some beautiful hair girl! i havent been natural since i was a kid. but im glad to see that it works with curly hair too. i have tried it when i was trying to keep my waves after i did a twist out. do you wrap your hair like that every night?? i used to twirl it into a bun but it was "swavy" whaen i took it down.

Only when I have my hair curly or in twists for the night. It works really well for twists. When I wear twist-outs I roll the ends with a roller then tie back and wrap with the burrito wrap.

@ ALL:: i tried to do a brief tutorial. my bf was not here to hold the camera so it may be a little confusing. i also added at the end an abridged version using a phony pony showing how to do the actual wrapping once the scarf is put on......
EDIT:: fotki was being a hater and limits the # of pics. so now the real pic by pic tutorial should be right. its in its own folder too

Thanks for the input ladies! I just posted about scarf issues! lol My knot was making a lil bald spot near where a widow's peak is and so I've been searching for other methods. Plus, I like the straighter look but I don't like all the manipulation of wrapping the hair ie "doobie" so...the burrito wrap it is! Hope it stays secure!

@ rezgirl:: i know what u mean about the scarf causing bald spots. i dont have the bald spot but at my nape, when im in a rush to wrap i snag my hair. so my hair at my nape is probably shorter than it should be. its not that short but its not as long as the rest of my hair. let me know how you like burrito wrapping. its def the easiest method ive used thus far.

So I burritto wrapped last night! lol It was good. My scarf is satin so i had to secure it on each side, near the ears, with 1 bobby pin per side. It stayed on...until I got up and started moving around! lol I think I may have more success with a silk scarf maybe? Also, even though I didn't make my scarf triangle even so as to allow it to be bigger..it wasn't really long enough to cover all of my hair until I tucked it in and also it was kind of cumbersome to tie in the back. Does that make sense? I didn't secure it with a claw, I just tied it around some kinda way to hold all the hair in. So, not sure if I actually did it right but I am willing to keep trying! :yep:

@ rezgirl:: i somewhat understand. i think a silk scarf would be better as well bc satin wraps come off my head with a sneeze lol.
