Shiny hair, if you havent done an ACV cold final rinse yet.....

I tried apple cider vinegar rinses before but I did them after shampooing, before conditioning. That didnt quite make sense to me because acv closes the hairs cuticle and it would need to be somewhat open to accept conditioner. I still did it that way out of fear of vinegar smelling hair. Tonight I shampooed with Kenra clarifying( love that stuff), conditioned with some Garnier stuff and then final rinsed with maybe 4 tablespoons of acv diluted with about 8 oz of icy water. I poured that on after rinsing the conditioner from my hair, left it for a minute, then rinsed with more icy cold water. I know icy water in the winter is no fun but I really found a way not to mind it and I didnt even feel cold ( I think its psychological to an extent esp being that the icy water only touched my head). The cold water is also very important in sealing the cuticle for shiny, silky hair. Anyway, I noticed when my hair was wet that it was sooo shiny!!! Last week I used a hair glaze and it just does not work and only coated my hair making it kinda dull. My hair needs to be very clean and the cuticle needs to be shut to be shiny and smooth. Im on a quest for shinier hair and this seems excellent. Even the very curly parts of my hair are quite shiny. Cold and acid ( ph) are the two things that make the cuticle close making it shiny.....

K, i added pics, ( in the process of flat ironing lol) sorry for the crappy pic taking lol kim that this is not serum or oil of any kind creating the shine, just basically naked hair flat ironed Also, I did NOT use flash! I clipped these from video record.. So thats the real shine :lol :

 I didnt do anything except mentally be okay with it. I honestly didnt feel cold, I quickly rinsed ONLY my head with the cold water. I know it was as cold as it was last week, I probably couldnt have done it. If the cold is too much for you try a cool rinse :)

I'm can't speak for the OP but when I do a cold ACV rinse, I sing stupid songs really loudly and think about the music video. It works for me because my mind isn't on the cold water. And then I'm done.

I would add that for those who are stretching and have a lot of NG, the best thing ever created is to add a handful of either (2) baking soda or (b) ACV to some conditioner and apply while in the shower. Allow the mixture to marinate while you do your business, then rinse with cold water and watch the tangles just melt away. It worked for this 4-month old, post-relaxer, tangled, matted mess on my head. Probably shouldn't do this every week, but every two or three weeks for a cleansing and detangling experience.

There have been many threads on this.

Thanks, Shahla for this information! :blowkiss:

I LOOOVE a ACV rinse! I stopped doing them for a few weeks out sheer laziness, and wondered why my hair was so dull...This is one step I wont be leaving out! I can't bring myself to use cold water though!

You can try getting out of the tub, putting a towel on, wrapping another one around your shoulders/neck and then leaning your head into the flow of the water. And then you just leave it there for however long. (I sing John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt and The Song That Never Ends three times each. Slowly.)

For some reason, if your body isn't touched by the cold water, it really doesn't feel bad or uncomfortable. I think Shahla's right...it's probably more psychological than anything else.
And by the time I get to the second verse of JJJS, even my head is too numb to feel the water anymore. :yep:

After it's all done, let most of the water run off your head, get up, take the towel off your shoulders and put it on your head, so you don't have cold water running down your back. And that's all there is to it.

Oh, and I put my hair into two braids before putting it under the water. It's just easier.

UPDATE: I'm flat ironing and my hair is SO SHINY and so silky that it looks wet!! Its doesnt have that greasy clumpy dirtiness that you get from a serum if you want shine. Its just light, free and mirror SHINY!! Im so pissed that I wasted my time with that glaze that made my hair so DULL because it coated it and it wouldnt even straighten without a lot of work. I also dont have a decent camera or I'd blind all of you with a pic of this shine lol. I wish there was someway to refix the pH of my hair between washes, obviously I cant acv rinse( i wear my hair flat ironed)... I wonder if theres some product with a very low pH that can be applied dry...

I also dont know how important the cold water is if you use the acv. The acv will do the cuticle closing all by itself. The cold water would also do it by itself so idk.

Update: Its been about 3 days now since washing my hair and I havent ironed since that night. It is still unbelievably shiny!! Not oily, greasy shine , just weightless natural shine!! I just cannot believe the key to shiny hair was simple vinegar and cold water!! Im so excited, I havent added a single either. I hate coated hair. My hair is just so,so, silky!! The pics do not capture the actual shine and my hair looks richer and darker too ( it looks ligher in the pics , idk why,, no flash was used). Im soo happy about this. pH is really important and no serum or cream will repair that, it has to be sealed wet since dry hair has no pH... Im now going to buy Chi Keratin mist because it has a very low pH of 3.5 to use after the vinegar rinse since I think even the cold water raises the hairs pH back up... Please, please try the vinegar rinse and cool or cold water if you want very shiny, silky hair!!! I have a feeling if I keep this up I will be healing and protecting my hair because a sealed cuticle is far less prone to damage than an open one!

If you like that you could also try the "Halo Rinse", I read about it on here so I googled it and found this recipe. I found the benefits of using honey in my conditioner from a recipe I found in the Natural living thread. My hair was so shiney it was rediculous and it was uber soft. I molested my hair the entire week.
