There are fewer cases, but more of the cases are among more marginalized people - recent immigrant transwomen, young men in and out of the prison system, etc. It’s still spreading, but outreach/education isn’t even reaching the people most likely to be affected anymore.

Not surprised at all. I worked with the mpox outreach at my local health department; the activation ended New Year’s Eve. For the last few weeks, my cases were going a week or two before being accurately diagnosed, sometimes seeing 4 or 5 different care providers before being tested, even when they were certain they had mpox. Some were never able to get tested at all, despite visiting multiple health centers/ERs with visible symptoms. It felt as if the powers that be decided to use the Trump tactic - “there won’t be any cases if you don’t test.”
