I haven't put my hair up for the challenge yet. I will do my hair tomorrow. But my hair is up in flat twist now.

Installed my twist for the week. Will keep them until next Thursday or Friday.

It takes me 2 hours to twist and probably 3 hours total. Not sure why it takes me so long to shampoo and condition :ohwell:

    Hi ladies

I'd love to join this challenge! I've been wearing my hair in two strand twists 5 days a week since December and I definitely see the benefits in continuing to do so.

    1. What is your primary style (twists, braids, bunning, etc.)?

twist pulled back into a bun

    2. What is your style maintenance regimen?

scalp massage with Ayurvedic growth oil every other night
spray with Ayurvedic infused moisture spray every other night
    seal ends with shea butter

    3. Are you natural, relaxed, transitioning?

    natural

    4. What do you hope to achieve from the challenge?

    SL wash and go's

    5. How often will you restyle your hair?

    Weekly

    6. Include Starting Pic.

So I'm including my starting picture for the year. I retained nothing last year and lost some it seems. The sad thing is that I didn't notice breakage throughout the year. I'm going to try to be extra vigilant this year and at least get back on track if not propel myself forward with my growth and retention. I started this year in chunky twists, but have since installed these medium sized twists. They look and feel smooth but I feel like I twisted them too tight (the twisting style, not the tension on my scalp) and so I feel like they look too scalpy based on the way that my hair is parted. I might fluff them out this weekend to give them more volume.

I've noticed a few people mention they didn't get the retention they expected last year even though things seemed ok throughout the year. Hopefully this will be a better year for us all.

I see what you mean about the twisting style and lack of fullness. How do you fluff them out?

I used senegalese style twisting and I bound the strands together quite tightly. (I've added a picture of what a twistout usually looks like.) I'm going to loosen them, finger comb them out and then twist them with more space between the sections.

I don't know what happened last year. Evidently I am going to have to pay more attention to my ends. I think that I only trimmed once last year although I usually trim 2-3 times per year.

I am just starting.. but I feel that some protective styles can still be damaging... to a certain extent. So each week I search for potential weaknesses in mine :brainy:

I started with smalls two strand twists and noticed how often my ends wrapped into each other when detangling.

The next week I made them larger and noticed many began to unravel by day 3 -- forcing me to retwist.

This week they are slightly smaller (and some still unraveled :bricks: ) and the front is flat twisted into the back (and I feel this can easily become too much stress on my edges)

So on Sunday, I plan to:

Do larger two strand twists in the front to give the same appearance as my flat twists
When I get to the ends, braid for a few before twirling for a curl.

    Then I'll evaluate and improve,

My goal is to eventually reach a daily style I feel comfortable wearing that also provides the least amount of damage.

I think the weather is too dry for me to wear 2 strand twists right now. I plan to switch back to flat twist until the spring. No matter what I did this past week I just could not keep my twist moisturized. And when my twist dry out, my ends split. I will stick with flat twist for now and try 2 strands again in the spring.

I just got a major haircut and color on straight hair. I have no idea what my hair will look like in mini-twists, but I will update once I'm not traveling. I have to travel to cold weather areas over the next few weeks, so I have to revamp the routine.

I will update with cut pic and NYE twists.

So, I refreshed my style. The roots are a bit frizzy because of new growth, but I don't mind. I used the exact same sections as before and my hair looks much fuller!

I know I'm hosting this challenge but I may be mia for a month. I need to try conditioning my hair every other day and I want to try it for a month, so I won't be keeping my hair up in twist for the 5 days. I won't be leaving the thread, just not posting for a while until I get back on this regimen.

I will lurk in this challenge and post periodically. I wear 2 strand twists often. Mostly, they are in a bun or ponytail.

I moisturize daily and only re-style weekly. I wash and retwist every 2 weeks.

@ResultsMayVary, I am revisiting the size of my twists. I started making them smaller in hopes to get longer wear time out of them. Smaller twists are prettier (on my hair) but the small knots on the ends that sometimes happen isn't worth it.

@faithVA, it takes hours for me to twist my hair. I always complain it's not worth it on wash day but I do enjoy not having to do anything to my hair for 2 weeks thereafter. I wash in my twists so I'm having to do an unravel, detangle and re-twist which is why it takes so long. But, washing in twists is so manageable.

Thanks @faithVA. Still going through a lot but trying my best.

I haven't taken photos in a while but here's one of how I generally wear my hair. I then twist them in a bun some days.

Joining officially now, but started New Years Day. I thought I wasn’t gonna post anymore smh :look:

    1. What is your primary style (twists, braids, bunning, etc.)? I’ve got 3 in rotation that I tested/perfected in 2018:
    A. Goddess Flat Twist Bun
    B. Sleek Crown Bun
    C. Twists in a Low Bun (not as often as the
    other two)
No heat, no mini twists, no braid extensions/added hair.

    2. What is your style maintenance regimen? I wear a satin scarf to keep my hair neat and protected at night. As needed, I’ll spritz my hair to reactivate the gel before throwing on the scarf . About midweek I M&S fully- around this time my hair loses moisture a bit.

    3. Are you natural, relaxed, transitioning?
Natural, 4a/4b, normal to high porosity

    4. What do you hope to achieve from the challenge? Add 3 more cute truly protective styles to my rotation (and learn the skills to do so). These are the styles I want to learn starting in June (no sooner bc I want to be on autopilot for a while; learning new styles means extra manipulation and a little breakage trying to get it right):
    A. (my favorite)
    B.
    C.
Retain “100%” of my growth and hit MBL without trimming (unless absolutely necessary).

    5. How often will you restyle your hair?
I refresh my style (including M&S-ing again) at the end of the week, either on wash day (every 2 weeks) or a non wash day weekend. I switch actual styles every 2 weeks tho
