But since we have an advantage skinwise (ie more melanin therefore better sun protection) why cant another race have an advantage in the hair department etc? The way God made us everything happens for a reason!

I'm sure for a scientific study they measured the hair in it's uncoiled link.
It's not hard for me to believe the results.

Me neither. I believe it. One of my co-workers is Dominican, and she and I colored our hair the same week, and her hair grew SO much faster than mine did (you could compare our dark roots)...
Now, it could just be that MY hair is extra slow-growing, I don't know...

Look at Jada pickett. I remember in quite a few movies her hair was short and we now see where it is.

Girl Jada's hair is a weave
. You can not take stars hair seriously because they be weaving it up. Like Beyonce she paid 3,000 for her hair in her Crazy in Love Video. Jada is baweavable...........

Girl you are right....we have alot of advantages as Afro Americans and we need to appreciate them. On my job alot of the white folks want my nappy hard to maintain hair because I style it differently all the time and they wish they could do that. I can go from curly to straight from braids to a relaxer, we can be universal and creative with our hair they can't they have to wash everyday. My skin is naturally a smooth brown people tan to get this complexion I am blessed in who I am.

My sisters stand up!!!!!!

Since I am in the process of growing my hair long, I refuse to believe such studies. (Negative thinking, you know)

Also, having us believe our hair is so fragile & slow-growing is big business for the hair product industry right now, especially when we generally spend so much on haircare.

Well many ladies here will beg to differ. I believe I have heard from a few members that it was real.

I think it's just that Asian hair is strongest and is therefore least susceptible to breakage. Then obviously there's the fact that their hair is [usually] straight so their full length is visible.

A lot of stylists and Jada herself has said it's real. It's been 10 years since she was that Cosby spinoff (the name escapes me right now...). That's plenty of time to grow hair to your waist.

My hair grows the same rate as a mix of Mongoloid and Caucasian. I get a little more than half an inch a month, I don't know what that is in centimeters. But I know I grow a little bit more than 6 inches a year.

What about the Matrix Evolution which is a whole lot more recent then the "Cosby spinoffs" she starred in that. She had a short curly pony tail that looked more like her real hair length. I am a Jada fan from the Set it off days and her hair length have varied alot in the last couple of years. Looks like weave magic to me. And if her hair was a weave she is not going to say yeah it's weave and neither is her stylist they will make comments like her locks.

Just some info from stuff I've read.....

After this I promise I'll get back on topic.

I'm not a Jada fan, so the only time I see her is on Different World
reruns and hair mags. I didn't see the Matrix, either. It looks real to me. But if it's a weave it's a damn good one. She needs to hook Brandy and Beyonce up with her weave specialist.

Jada's hair is at least brastrap length. I have the issue of Essence when she was on the cover last year. In the next issue after that a reader asked why did they put weave in her hair because they liked her short hair better. Essence replied with a foot note and said that was all her hair, and that she arrived at the photo shoot with a large braid in her hair. They liked the way it looked when they took her hair out of the braid so they didnt bother to style it any further.

Jada's hair looks real to me too. I've seen pics of it in it's natural state and I'm sorry, but you can't get a weave to look like that.

I sure do hope it's real...she has had 6-7 years to grow it that long
. But if it isn't hers...I still got Wanakee and the Hair Lady (and you gals of course) to give me hope

Nah, I don't think that's it...
It's just that it's a known fact that most of these celebrities wear weaves and all kinds of other things, so it's hard to just look at one, (especially one like Jada, who has been known to wear her hair sooo short). Now her hair is almost waist length... I'm not gonna take Essence's word for it that all that is her hair... no one knows for sure except for her, her stylist, and WIll!!
I'm skeptical about her hair, too!!

It was no wear near her waist on the essence mag cover. It was a little above BS. Her hair was short like 5-6 years ago plus shes had some pregnancies (doesnt hair growth flourish during that time?). So I dont see why that couldnt be her hair. It looks like 3 years worth of growth to me. And she said she always had long hair as a child. Now in certain Pics elsewear I know that she has weave, but on that cover I could tell that it was hers
(they had a close up of her edges and I followed her hair all the way to the ends
)

Plus she's about 5feet tall, so her length is going to hit waist length quicker than someone of my height 5'10

The last time her hair was a short crop was 1998 so that's plenty of time to grow out your hair. Plus her hair was long pre A Different World days, in the movie The Inkwell with Larenz Tate

If we can grow our hair on this board then why can't she. You can click on the link below and see some pics of her hair. Last Friday she was live on a British chat show and her hair was in it's naturally wavy/curly state, and looked absolutely stunning.

The Matrix is not THAT recent. It was filmed shortly after Aaliyah died in 2001 (nearly 3 years ago) back to back part 2 and 3. Filming wrapped in August 2002 (after 200 days shooting) Jada's hair was a mid length curly ponytail. So from then to now there's a possible 18 inches that could have grown. I think she keeps it at a constant length now, cause the last long pic I remember was the babd boys 2 premier with will and it was about 5 inches short of her waist.

For all of you that believe it's her hair that's great!!!!!!
By all means do you...I just never use stars as inspiration because they always have to look good for the camera and hair weave and hair pieces is an accessory in hollywood these days they are like props. Alot of stars use hair weaves to add fullness and length their images are not realistic so I would never set my hair goal, body goals or any goals according to one of them. I prefer to be inspired by the ladies and pics on this forum
But Jada's my girl and if that is her hair it's the bomb...... I'm done with this topic.

If I remember correctly, she was on A Different World before the Inkwell. And I thought her hair was a weave in The Inkwell.

All people have to do is look at pictures of her over the years as it gets longer and longer. Why does it have to be weave? If people here have long hair why can't see.

Brittany--the reason that I figured her hair was a weave in The Inkwell is because she was working on A Different World still when she did the movie and her hair was short on A Different World.

It's not said to cut her down or anything--Jada's got it goin' on whether she wore a weave in The Inkwell or not.
