Big chopping was the best for my hair.....my hair has never been so healthy!

DCing twice a week...the moisture/protein balance for my hair is perfect.

Monthly ACV rinses - proporsity control

Detangling in the shower

Considering my hair is longer now....braiding my hair up at night, prevents breakage.

Also lacefront wigs....I'm hiding my hair until July, 2010.

Finding a couple staple products and sticking to them.
Knowing what ingredients my hair likes has cut down on trying every product mentioned.
Doing better braidouts/twistouts
Using quality styling tools makes a difference

Learning about the protein/moisture balance.

Cowashing...my hair has done a complete 360 since I eliminated those harsh shampoo washes. I still have a clarifying and moisturizng shampoo for days I clarify. And the Aphogee shampoo for damaged hair for when I do my 2 step protein treatment. I LOVE my cowashes. :lick:

I figured out so much about my hair in 2009, I finally have all the pieces to the puzzle and im looking forward to some serious growth in 2010. Things that helped:

Started using phyto relaxer again
discovered the benefits of coconut oil
i used to be really bad about DCing, now i DC every week without fail

I was just reading more responses in the "What Mistakes Did You Make in 2009" thread and was wondering if someone made a thread about all of the positive things we did to our hair this year. What are the best things you did for your hair in 2009? I mean, we all have setbacks and make mistakes, but can we celebrate some of the benefits we've reaped? Did you make any new discoveries about what your hair responds well to that you wish you had made earlier?

For me it is:
correcting my porosity
stretching out relaxers
using oil for detangling
revisiting shikakai bars

Thanks for this post.

Mine were:
Using neutralizer shampoo on previously relaxed hair to prevent overlap (hair is now thicker looking than ever)
Switching to ORS lye relaxer (my Mizani ends are hella thin)
Oil rinses (works well for normalizing porosity)
No-cone or low cone conditioners (hard to find here)
Deep conditioning at least 2-3 times weekly (mega dry here)
Megatek
Henna

Jury's still out on the Maxi hair vitamins, but I have faith.

will upload new shots of my hair soon, but it is finally about 1-2 months away from full health APL :)

Sticking with a product long enough to see it work.
Getting a sew in.- At first I wasn't sure because I has some shedding but about a month later my hair started to make noticeable gains. Maybe resting my hair did help.

Taking a Break from Posting
Moisturizing and Sealing- the best thing for my ends EVER. I cant imagine doing anything else. This changed the whole game for me. Once I started doiing this, I saw an immediate improvement in my hair.

Dusting- Another good deed. I am obsessed with my ends now, so I dust whenever I feel the urge, but I am cautious duster. I only get them raggedly ends and I go no further. Now that I dust,my stylist only trims my ends every couple of months, before that, it was every month atleast and she was trimming way more than I would have wanted

Protein/Moisture Balance- Thankfully I have yet to experience a protein overload..but my hair seems to thrive with protein. I know that once I figured out a proper regimen that incorporated both, I was on the right track.

Figuring out a Regimen: Everything aint for everybody..So even though I was in every Product Rave Thread, I did my homework. I researched products on here and on different blogs that I thought were specific for my hair, what I could afford, and if I was ordering online;how long would it take for me to receive it. Once I did my process of elimination, the rest was easy.

Finding Kpak Reconstructor! Buying some sheers and trimming my own hair instead of letting anyone else touch it!

Perfecting my bantu knot out which helped me cut out 95% of direct heat on my hair (Flat ironing only once every couple of months at 180 degrees just to flip my bangs or add a touch of smoothness).

:)

Low manipulation in between washes.
wearing my satin bonnet and scarf around the house goes a long way in aiding with that low manipulation regimen.

Poranges

Positive Vibrations
Keeping my hair moisturized and detangled.
Co-washing and DC'ing religiously.
Sticking to the products that work for me.
Taking my hair into my OWN hands.

And last but not least! FINDING this site! :heart2:

~My transition is going well, I haven't had any desire to go back to the creamy crack!

Stretching my relaxer for 1yr = a whole new head of hair
90% cone free, all natural products...especially my conditioners
Applying neutralizing shampoo mixed with vaseline to the ends of my hair before a relaxer
Applying layers of conditioner to my hair to keep the moisture locked in
Using a diffuser on a dryer held 5 inches away to blow dry my hair with the tension method
