Are there any? I have been searching through threads but it seems that only naturals or almost naturals or transitioners are the only ones using it.
I am interested in BK not for the straightening part, but for the strengthening aspect. The problem is that my hair has always been heat sensitive so I am worrying about the process of BK. I just want my hair to be strong so that I can retain all of it.

Any relaxed heads out there using BK?

    TIA:grin:

Thank you! I just got back from your fotki and your hair is beautiful! Have you experienced any of the usual breakage or dryness? Have you experienced heat sensitive hair in the past or are you one of the luckies who have always been able to flat iron and blow dry all the time? My hair has always hated heat so that's why I am nervous.

I'll be hopping on the BKT Bandwagon soon (as in this weekend if the Keratin ever arrives!!!):spinning: I am a tex-re-laxed-ish 3b/3c/6z in the crown..lol. I relaxed my hair twice last year, I am about a 3a now with some straight pieces. This sounds like a fabulous idea I can't wait to try it. I'll post the results in my Fotki!:yep:

Thanks for the reply! I can't wait to hear the results! I am making myself do research while I gather money--I'm in a money pinch right now or otherwise I would be :auto:right now to get it this very second!:lachen:

The BKT was originally meant to strengthen chemically altered hair - colored, relaxed, permed, double processed - so basically it was meant for heads like yours. Naturals just jumped on it as an alternative to relaxing their curl pattern w/out the permanent commitment (at least thats why i did it). Some relaxed heads might not feel like paying for a relaxer and then paying again for the BKT when their hair is already straight - so not sure how many on this board have tried it. I think on Dontspeakdefeats thread she mentions that she is relaxed. You should PM her and maybe speak to a professional and let them examine ur hair.

Sorry, here I am! In the past I could not blow dry and flat irion alot or I would get really bad split ends...my hair is very sensitive! Especially once it gets to a certain length. I have noticed a tremendous decrease in the amount of breakage especially since I'm 11 weeks post. Usually I could barely comb thru my hair at this point and now it glides thru like butter! I love this treatment and please feel free to ask me any questions. I am excited about my second round as they say that it takes even better after your first time!

I'm thinking about doing this to help me go to texlaxing 2 time a year. I can only find 3-4 stylist that do it in this area. I'm calling the 1 at one today.

I did this treatment today. Looks good. We'll see how it looks next week when I wash. I'm thinking of going to a salon for a wash and set. I don't know yet. I'd be totally happy with my hair today had I not gone scissor crazy and cut some too short bangs a couple weeks ago.

Your hair looks really good. Do you mean that the ng is now noticeably straighter? How straight is it in comparison to the rest of your relaxed hair? Are you transitioning or staying relaxed? If you're staying relaxed, when do they suggest you do your touch-up or will you not need a touchup using this. Sorry for all the questions but I'm tryinig to understand how this BKT works in conjunction with a relaxer. I'm thinking about it but I like straight hair.

Wow! You've got me two steps closer to getting it done(all I need is money). I want it so MUCH if it will make my hair stronger --like I said I don't care as much about straightness. I just want it stronger so it can grow longer faster, ya know? For as much as I care for my hair, I don't want to see ANY breakage anymore EVER. I can't wait to hear you results for the second round!

I have been finding that it is important to find the right temperature. I am thinking maybe 410 will be hot enough but not so hot as to break my hair. I do know technique is essential. The best hairdresser I ever had could curl my hair with the marcel (sp) stove irons and my hair would not break or burn. Other hairdressers however, used so called 'safe' electric irons that left me with my hair in a pile on the floor for months.:perplexed

Do you have a temperature recommendation? Also, when do you plan to do it again?
    TIA

Thanks guys! I am currently relaxed and thinking about transitioning with the BKT..If you are planning to stay relaxed, you can do the relaxer at any point in time...it is fine for the two processes to overlap. There is no waiting period! My new growth is notbone straight but it is much more relaxed and wavy (as opposed to thick and kinky). I think I'm going to do the process again at the 2 month mark by I'm going to be sure to leave the neutralizing shampoo on my new growth for a longer period of time. I can't wait to share the nextupdare with you guys!

There is a dominicana with beautiful hair I've been trying to figure out in terms of 'is she natural' or 'relaxed', but now I am almost positive she uses BKT. Why? Cuz, she sometimes wears it curly like it's 3a or b or , but I know her hair is 4a to 4b by her occasional roots along her hairline, actually look more 4bish. Other times she wears it flat ironed, but it is so HEALTHY looking and long. I love her hair, and if that is the result of BKT hair, I would definitely be willing to forget relaxers all together. It would be heaven for me to have hair I could wear curly or flatironed with no damage, all healthy and strong.

If that's is what you are aiming for Justnotsure, then COUNT ME IN for transitioning. I am all excited at the idea cuz I just saw her tonite at the salsa club and I was like, yes, I am sure she BKT's.

I hope you guys understand, cuz I am rambling. It's 3:49 am and well, I probably need to go to bed!:drunk:

I am a relaxed head that just BKT'd this past weekend. So far so good. I was about 5 weeks post. Usually around this time, I am shedding and brea king a lot. After the treatment it looked like I had just gotten a touch up (except for the roots). I have swing and silkiness. I haven't washed yet so I don't know how long the results will last. I will try to update later. I have been wondering when I should start using other products and doing other hairstyles. Should I wait until my usual weekly wash on Saturday?

Good question... For those veteran BKTers, how soon after the treatment do you wash?

    Hi Ladies,

What brand name/system of BKT are you using?

I'm torn between the Softliss, Global Keratin 2% , and QOD gold products.

Btw, im relaxed 4a and am thinking of tranisitoning to natural AGAIN lol. Seems like this product would help get me through that phase with minimal discomfort.

    TIA

I'm a relaxed head an I plan on bkt'ing my hair at the end of this year Dec 2009. Researching more about the BKT I stumbled upon this old article with some great information.

    http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/straightening/brazilian-keratin-treatment

One thing the article suggests is to use Keratin based shampoo and conditioner to maintain the treatment. Is there anyone who is maintaining there BKT results using keratin based haircare products?

    For example MillCreek Organic [IMG]

    hello ladies,

I've been wondering could i use BKT as a temporary texturizer to loosen my curls or would it just make it straight like a relaxer...or would I just be waisting money?

    Hi Ladies,

I am on my second round of BKT treatments. The first time I did it was two weeks post relaxer and the second was three months.

My Goal with BKT Treatments is to reduce the amount of times I relax my hair to annually. Being 3 months in I am like "ehhh" about how it tamed my new growth. I am still in my "cant wash hair week" and see my flat ironed hair reverting so there is no telling how it will respond airdried yet. I think a good indication will be three months from now when I have a good three inches of new growth.

The first time I BKTed I noticed a lot of breakage from ends and was very concerned. I determined that the breakage was due to the condition of my hair at the time I appled the treatment -- dry.

For the next two months I deep conditioned each week for 30 min to get the moisture back in my hair. The second go round, I have not noticed any breakage and am pleased witht he results.

To add another variable - I also cut an additional inch off to get a complete blunt style -- which also said good bye to dry ends.

At the moment my analysis is that BKT preserves the state of your hair at application. So I would not reccomend putting it on dry hair. What I am concerned about is that if the product is designed to prevent frizz, how difficult does it make it for our daily moisture and weekly deep conditioning to get into the hair shaft?? Does it BLOCK OUT our moisture efforts all together. Or is it restricted to moisturizing products with small molecules that a tiny enough to seep thru the moisture proof cracks --you feeling me?

I am from old school (been away for some time) where I love to moisturize my ends TWICE a day -- So sealing so well with the treatment almost feels counterproductive to getting moisture in -unless its already in a great moisturized state PRIOR to application.

Also, because I cut my hair, its tricky to determine if I am experiencng less breakage due to the cut (no dry ends to break) or the weekly moisture treatments.

Overall my hair was in 80% optimal condition when I applied the first treatment.

Anyone else feel the same way about trapping in vs blocking moisture? I have posted a pic of BKTed hair in my FOTKI.

    Bests!

Does anyone else with relaxed hair have comments? I'm tempted to have it done.

Bumping, because i'm thinking about doing this, but i'm hesistant because of the fear of sealing the cuticle so tight daily moisturizing would be fruitless.

Bumping for any relaxed ladies that may still be BKTing. Tell me how it’s going please

I got the treatment last Saturday and my hair has so much body. I washed with L’oreal Cleansing balm.

I am 2 months post relaxer and plan to wait 3 more weeks before I get another one.
