I surely will. Once her shop is up and taking on new clients... I am ready. I need a trim. However, I’m not sure if I’ll pass on the flat iron. I think after the blow dry and trim... I’m ok with that to prevent any heat damage.
i dont blame u... i would pass on the flat iron too... better to be safe than sorry... i've heard too many horror stories of having to cut off yrs and yrs of growth because of heat damage... honestly thats my worst fear (either than scissor happy stylists, and slipping a relaxer in my con)

I currently have heat damage now after getting my hair straightened 1x in 2 years. It’s annoying when stylists assume that natural/kinky hair needs high heat to be straight.

Either A Blessing Or A Lesson.
The me of 20 years ago would be appaled at what I'm about to say......she could have cut another two inches to get rid of the see through ends because I mean hell, she would still have 3-4 feet of hair left.

That really makes me want to go get my hair straightened but ain't no way it's happening in a pandemic.

I watched this video last week; her hair definitely looks healthy and I would love a pair of those shears but they are a little pricey.

you're going to see her?!?! are u going to give us some hair porn when she's done?

I will take some better photos once my hair flattens out but thus far I wasn’t impressed with the salon. I think each person has their own technique. Unfortunately SoHairGenius is in LA now and I’m not sure how people book her when she comes back.
Overall.... I’ll most likely not go back to this salon.

thank you for your kind words.

I got the deep treatment and she used whatever was left on my hair (which wasn’t enough in my opinion to fully coat my hair for easier detangling)

I wasn’t too fond of her detangling process. It’s better than majority of the salons. It was equal half great detangling and half “she ripped me bald”.

she blew dry my soaking wet hair in sections. I was concerned that too much time would be on the blow dryer and I’ll get heat damage.

which unfortunately.... my roots were not all the way dry and I didnt have a good blow dry result. So when she ran the hot comb on my perimeter, she ran the hot comb through sections of my hair. I’ve never had a hot comb in my hair before.

she proceeded to flat iron... did an amazing job on the trim (on YouTube.. @sosheargenius trims on the blow dry and flat irons on one pass). After the trim she went back into my hair w/ the flat iron to curl it. She wrapped it and put the plastic cap on it and it still came out curly. I thought the curls was to give it body, fullness, and bounce like the videos

I have no clue if I sustained heat damage. Idk the temperature she flat ironed on.. 2x at that, the hot comb, and the blow dryer.... I’m nervous. I wish she would have asked if I was ok w/ certain tools and temps.
She was also doing her hair in between doing my hair. Not sure if that was regular salon culture.

Thank you for sharing your experience and the pics! I was so looking forward to your update because I live in the burbs outside of Philly and was hoping my search for a stylist was over. After reading your experience it looks like my search may need to continue...but if you don't mind I have a few questions: Was it actually Kee the owner who did your hair or another stylist? Was it difficult to schedule with Kee and get in her book? I was wondering how she consulted with you on the trim? Did you discuss what you wanted and more importantly did she honor your request? I really want/need a good trim but not willing to go with someone who isn't receptive to not turning a trim into a haircut. Also if you don't mind sharing how much was the entire service?

I know how disappointing it can be when the reality of your visit doesn't match the image given on YT or Instagram. I had a similar experience with Mo Knows Hair and would never recommend her to be honest. I think your hair looks lovely but understand the disappointment when you don't get the look you want.

Not sure who Kee is (if that’s the owner, I thought her name was something else). Any who!!! You book the stylist using style seat... and Kee is available for booking. I guess the ppl that book her know her personally.

i don’t mind the trim... it’s a great trim. I told her I wanted that wrap in the videos when the owner uses the shower cap.
As far as the trim. She didn’t ask any questions. I just knew I needed one and didn’t mind how much she took off.
She gave me a out a 1-1.5 inch trim. I booked Taj. She was very chatty w/ the other stylist but was never informative on what she was doing. I didn’t realize she was gonna run that hot comb throughout my hair until she did. I didn’t know she was gonna flat iron twice. Maybe I didn’t exercise my personal responsibility into getting what I wanted. The last I did... demanding my hair not be flat ironed past 400... the stylist kicked me out her chair. It cost $95 in total w/ tax. I wouldn’t go back. I have one more stylist I wanna try. If she’s open to my personal requests on blow drying, detangling, and flat ironing than I’ll stick to her.

My hair isn’t straighten out. It still has a hard bump/curl//swoop to it

It definitely looks fuller. I definitely trimmed about 3.5-4.5 inches off over the year. I ordered new shears... hopefully I won’t have to trim so much in 2021 due to scraggly ends. I’ll take new side by sides when my hair straightens out.

Your hair is beautiful, but I doubt it truly required a blowout, a hot comb press, and two passes with the flatiron to achieve what you ended up with. And her doing her own hair and yours at the same time is just unprofessional.

But did you have a consultation with this stylist? I think her process, tools and temps she would use, should have been discussed and agreed upon at that time.

Thank you for the detailed response! This is not a salon I am familiar with so when I looked it up it said the owner is Annagjid Taylor and everyone calls her "Kee" for short. I assumed she was the one from the video as well. Thank you I will need to do more research because I am definitely vocal and need more of a consultation than you described so this may not be the best fit for me.

Purrty your the ends.

There’s a member here with type 4 knee length hair. Not sure if she’s mainly lurking now so don’t wanna call her out. Full and so lush. I recognised her as Niko’s cousins from pix a friend posted online.:lachen:

Said to him “I know her.” He was like um really? “I’m like; “what’s her name?” He’s like thought you knew her. I said “The hair, she’s Niko’s cousin”. He’s like who? So he asked, and ofcourse she is with her fine hair and pretty skin. My first “irl” Niko’s cousin moment. I think he low key thinks it’s some sort of sorority. :look:
