Dark and Lovely New Anti-Shrinkage Line = NO THANKS

Have you all seen the commercials for Dark and Lovely's new Au Naturalle anti-shrinkage line. I am so disgusted. They think they can captialize on the natural hair movement. Black people are on the path to taking our hair care back into our hands. We have countless lines of black suppliers with quality natural hair products (thank you Jesus). Dark and Lovely, however, is white owned and has continued to supply junk products to us for years. There is nothing natural about this company and their products. We should continue to support black owned companies. Asian and white companies should not be our top suppliers. Lets put our black companies back on top where they belong, eh! Ladies, lets make a conscious effort to take our hair care back! Anyone with me!?

Dark and lovely with their new 'natural' line....Same crap/ingredients, different packaging. SMH. Won't be getting any of my money for sure.

I like the fact they are trying to make people aware of natural hair. I'm too cheap to buy their product when Beautiful Textures is 4 dollars cheaper! I like the BT line.:yep:

I blogged about this a few months ago. I think the name of the line is insulting as well. They make a lot of products that claim to "remedy" natural hair.

Dark and Lovely is not dumb. This is a marketing ploy that a lot of companies are doing to make money from us. Just take a look at how many companies have a natural line. Dark and Lovely is just following suit. It is good for business.

I am insulted as well. First they focus on "RELAXING" the natural texture out of our hair w/chemicals. Now they focus on "ANTI-SHRINKAGE" so that we don't have to be doomed w/our natural texture. :Lachen70: It is clear that these are not black people behind the products.

I dunno about that.... This weekend one of my residents (black) said that a conditioner made her hair feel "soft just like the white people" :perplexed WTF does that even mean... black people don't have soft hair :ohwell: So I let her feel my hair and she was all "Oh my God, it's so soft and has so much body". It was only styled in a clip...One of my co-workers felt my hair and was like "It's so soft! You and your daughter have that good hair!". She's also black...my daughter is mixed with wavy hair, my hair is like soft brush in the front/Kunta Kinte in the back and it's 3 months post relaxer... again... WTF :perplexed

There's lots of companies that were targeting relaxed hair that now have "natural texture" lines that lots of people here love. I understand what you mean though.

The time is NOW to boost our Black businesses when it comes to our haircare. My loyalty remains towards the companies that have ALWAYS catered to natural hair. I am WITH YOU OP! I will NEVER buy from them!

I gave that commercial the side-eye earlier today. It is like they don't know about the companies that have recently made their ways into Target. They are taking over, and Dark & Lovely isn't even a contendor. Smh. Garbage.

I was wondering what LHCF might think about this line. The first thing I noticed was that all the girls in that commercial had really dry looking hair.

Is there a handy list of Black owned (quality) product companies somewhere? Maybe a sticky would help, if people are serious :)

Yes, we need a sticky, more of a database of black owned hair care product companies @pebbles @Supergirl @Allandra. In that thread, we should also include a list of non-black owned hair companies. It's important to know that certain companies we assumed were black owned are far from it (e.g., Dr. Miracles, Dark n Lovely, Motions, TCB, Hawaiian Silky, As I Am Naturally, Cantu Hair Products/Shea Butter, and ORGANIC ROOT STIMULATOR or ORS = NOT BLACK OWNED).

Until then, here are some threads that list black owned hair companies:

I see this product every time I turn my head, and on top of that it seems like they sent out the whole product line to every black girl with a camera and youtube account too.

Same exact yellow packing tape wrapped around the conditioners in the same way in half of all the video out there... that is not a coincidence they are trying to get free promotion, in which i don't blame them. They aren't gonna get me that way, I say no thanks.

Thanks for bringing this to light OP. I also feel like the company is making it look like natural hair needs fixed by using terms like anti-shrinkage. (Something they obviously got from the hair board community)

Sounds like L'oreal is reading message boards. So many naturals complain about shirkage. And let's not forget about the ones on an endless search to naturally loosen their curl pattern(coconut milk/lime relaxer, henna etc..). And a lot of naturals keep their hair stretched all the time, so I am not insulted by L'oreal focusing on an anti shrinkage line.

DarkJoy

Bent. Not Broken.

And there's 'cones! THeir condish not only has 'cones, Isopropyl Alcohol but citric acid and glycerin! Talk about dry city!

There's linalool, an alcohol, used in cockroach and flea pesticides. And also another alcohol, benzyl alcohol! there's 4 alcohols in this product! I know one is a 'safe' alcohol, but still...overkill! They dont specify if their 'fragrance' is an actual perfume (which are mostly alcohol) or a fragrance oil. So that is questionable too.

If I want to stay a straw-like NL and kill roaches and fleas within a 50 foot radius, I will be sure to use this line.:perplexed

Why they gotta flat out lie tho?

This thread is right on time. I was in Walgreens the other day and came across products made by Soft Sheen Carson for natural hair. One of the products being an anti-shrinkage cream. I was like dayum, all these years and now you wanna help natural sistas out..........ahem.........make money off of natural sistas. I was like hayle nah. I can't believe the number of products popping up that are geared towards natural sistas. Pluuuuueeeze!

Lhcf should make commercials. We do all this research yet we on the boards are the only ones who recognize this stuff.

Hey....what about Elasta?
