I try to do it each time I D/C; my hair will usually respond well enough to about 2+ hours with a plastic cap (steaming is "meh" for me), but it's soooo soft and moisturized after an overnight application.

This is interesting. My hair is actually very elastic. I would have to struggle to break a strand of my hair. It only became like that when I started DC'ing twice a week though.

I’ve never tried to deep condition twice a week. Maybe I’ll try it and see if I can make a difference.

No. I use a protein deep conditioner once every few months. I also henna about two-three times a year.

oh okay... i thought you had too much protein in ur routine because you said it snaps easily. It may be out of balance though... Maybe it needs a bit more strength. Just thinking out loud... U know ur hair better than me.

Used to but don’t any more. It wasn’t comfortable. I’m able to achieve enough moisture without overnight deep conditioning.

Don’t you get buildup from that?

    ——
You can easily get enough moisture by leaving the conditioner on for an hour or more under a shower cap or by using a hooded drier for 30 min . There s only a certain amount of conditioner that the hair shaft can absorb, leaving it overnight is pointless ,it leaves it wet yes but it also makes it more fragile ,wet hair is most fragile when is wet. I read a lot of hair books and most don’t recommend this practice . However to each it’s own. My hair needs a lot of moisture but I find that applying a heavy cream/oil to my hair after washing/dc/leave in works wonders .

I dont DC or DT overnight anymore. My mornings are a bit unpredictable and I dont sleep well with a plastic cap cause my blood/temperature is ALWAYS elevated and I sweat profusely. I just take the time to DC with heat for an hour and keep it pushing...like I'm bout to do right now!

I enjoy overnight deep conditioning when I don't need to do my hair in one sitting. I will also all day deep condition with a shower cap and a wig on all day if I want that overnight deep conditioning effect but need to get it in in the daytime for evening fresh done hair. I notice a positive difference that I don't always get with just steaming or a 30 minute deep condition when I keep conditioner on for a extended hours under that showercap.

When I'm too lazy to do anything after like moisturize and twist my hair. However, I always DC with heat so even if I leave it in overnight it was already warmed up anyway.

I still do DC overnight sometimes and it works wonders for my hair. I especially like to do it when my ends are feeling a little brittle and dry from using too strong a protein treatment. Brings my hair right back into balance.

I don't care how much the Pros and hair book authors are against it. When my own hair speaks, I listen to her. Like @Kindheart said, everyone's hair is different and I couldn't agree more.

I do and have for years. I do it on dry hair, similar to a prepoo. I'm low porosity and I tend to use either a balanced DC or a moisture DC. Ive never gotten moisture overload.

Sometimes I’ll overnight deep condition if I’m straight up just that tired. It depends what I have done prior to or not that determines the effects of overnight DC. If I've clarified, an overnight DC does me well. If I’ve co-washed or have been keeping up with my moisture balance, doing so overnight will just cause the DC to sit on my hair.

Doing it on semi damp hair kind of keeps a balance. Too damp hair, pushes me towards moisture overload, completely dry hair kind of causes build up too. So somewhere a bit in the middle.

I do, I do this once every 2 weeks or so.
Since I'd like to up my deep conditioning game, I might try and do this once a week.

My hair has had no adverse effects so far, and the stylist that last did my hair commented that my hair was very healthy.

Hopefully I can keep this up when I get it dyed again in the next 2 weeks

Against my better judgement, I did an overnight pre-poo. My scalp wasn’t irritated. I think it’s due to not having wet hair. I pre-pooed on dry hair and used two shower caps. My ends really enjoyed this overnight pre-poo.

I think I will do this once a week for wash day.

I stopped doing this after I started deep conditioning with a steamer. It's been years since I've done it. I still do oil treatments overnight.
