Does anyone use Twist & Loc Gel for Braid/Twist outs

Since being on a mission to grow my hair long I have been wear braidouts and 2 strand twists as well as flat twist sets. I've read in threads where people are wearing their braidouts and twistouts from 4 days to about 2 weeks! For the life of me I can't figure out how they are achieving this. I don't know if my twists don't last because my hair is so short (5 inches) or if its because I'm twisting with the wrong products. I have twisted/braided with setting lotion, aloe, and even eco style gel. It looks nice when it's fresh but after the 1st day it goes down hill. I was thinking that if I use twist and loc gel that may help retain the style but I don't want my hair to loc up either (i've never used twist and loc gel)

I sleep in a bonnet and it shrinks during the night. I've sectioned it off with rubber bands and then put the bonnet over it, that helps with shrinkage but then it looses the wave pattern from from the braids/twists... Am I the only person going thru this? :wallbash:

I used to use this and I like it alot. If gave me the right type of hold. I also like their mango & lime cactus serum....
O wait are you talking about ORS or Jamaican mango & lime, because I used Jamaican Mango & Lime twist gel

I LOVE ORS Lock and Twist gel for two strand twists! It gives a nice, non-crispy hold and the twist out results have always been amazingly defined! They are also left with a nice sheen that makes them especially pretty!

Since my hair is still so short, (about 3") I don't really wear twist outs yet, though I really do like how my hair looks when I undo my flat twists! :yep: Anyway, I have heard some naturals say that they redo their twists at night so that they can wear them for multiple days. From what I understand they don't retwist them exactly as they were originally done, but rather in several larger twists, put on a satin bonnet at night, and then undo the twists in the morning.

I hope this is making sense and I hope that helps. I'm by no means an expert at this, I'm just parroting what I learned from youtube!

well I've never used one.. I've seen several different companies that make twist and loc gel I was just wondering if using it with a braid/twist out would help it last longer than a day. I've seen Jamaican mango and lime, Organic root stimulator and some others that I can't remember.

Thanks! Is ORS available at the local beauty supply stores or is it something I can purchase online? I've heard several people talking about it but I've never seen it in the store.

Your post really helps! :)

I've seen it at my CVS, but YMMV. Seen it at Target as well. And Sally's. I know you can get on Sally's website.

I really love it. It's both moisturizing & yet gives nice hold. And I've noticed when I put it in my hair & then run my denman brush through it, I had crazy curl definition on my 4a hair.

You should be able to find it at your local BSS or even at the drugstore. I think Sally's Beauty supply caries it too.

Just recently I lucked out and found the HUGE tub of it at my local BSS! It's like a 3.5lb tub. :look: Don't judge me!

I think I only paid like $11 or $12 for it.

I used this on my set of twists last night. After it dries, my hair is hard just like after using a regular gel but after spritzing with water/glycerin and sealing with shea butter it feels back to normal. I wouldnt say this moisturizes more than anything else at all.

I used it when i was natural, and LOVED it! It gives an awesome soft (yet durable) hold, and is great for twist-outs, braid-outs, and even coil-outs!!!!

You may have been using a bit too much. I've noticed that my hair can get pretty hard with the ORS gel if I use too much, but even still it doesn't feel dried out. I moisten my hair on a daily basis anyway, and for me the gel continues to hold and merely becomes softer as the days go by. Usually by day three or so it feels pretty much normal but will still maintain most of its hold. I use it for my WNG's too and could probably get a good 5+ days worth of wear out of them if I didn't play in my hair so much!

Well ladies... this is how my flat twist turned out with the ORS twist and lock gel.. i think I may have been a bit heavy handed with it because my hair was very stiff with it which was ok with me, however my twist out didn't last any longer than it usual does and I've drawn the conclusion that its due to the length of my hair. Oh well.. motivation to keep it growing

Oh no!!! That's the next question, how do you get your twists to last, then?

Side question, OP- I see your in your siggy, your hair is at the bottom of your neck...Are you in the SL 2010 challenge? If not, I would strongly suggest you join...You can make SL by Dec 2010!!

My experience was as yours was.. I was surprised at how hard it was but once I added moisture it was fine.

I used this product a while ago but it left products pieces in my hair once it was dry.

In order to combat shrinkage when I do twists, at night I will spray my hair to get it moist then do jumbo braids in sections through out my head.

In the morning I take the braids down and the twists are elongated.

I have used twist outs and braid outs often during my transition and the only way to make mine last is by retwisting/braiding at night. As someone said before I don't do as many as the original and I always lightly spritz (water, glycerin, olive oil) to help maintain the pattern.
