Fall/winter, Braid-out/ Twist-out Routines

After wash day on Saturday I airdryed using ponytail holders to stretch four sections of hair and then yesterday after work, I braided each section for a braidout.

Welp, hair was still damp this morning. So this one is a fail. I noticed my hair looks slightly dull as well. Entwine butter product is thick and I used that for my leave in.

I'm trying to improve my twistouts for fall/winter. I've learned my hair doesn't like my twists too small but if I make them too big, it takes forever to dry. I also seem to get better defined volume with a flat twist instead of individual twists, but the individuals dry faster. I also struggle with getting past day 1.

Pictures of my last twistout with individual (right) and the last flat twistout (left).

Yup. My flat twistout definitely turn out better. I did 3 flat twists on either side and six in the back, with white perm rods on the ends. I used Paul Mitchell The Conditioner and the Mane Choice 24 karat Twisting Gel. It took about 1.25 hours to install and another 36 hours to air dry.

It's not perfect but I'm excited to finally get the hang of this. It has body, softness, and definition. We'll see if it lasts overnight (my other hurdle).

I've learned that I can do 5 flat twists in the front half of my hair (3 on one side and 2 on the other) and I need at least 5 for the back half, optimally 6. Otherwise, the back won't dry within 24 hours.

I'm trying to use up an old bottle of Paul Mitchell The Conditioner and I've realized that it doesn't give me any moisture for twistouts, even when I layer. My hair felt dry before it was dry :(

In other news, I'm trying new flat twist patterns to speed up my process. This time, I started my back twists up higher. I ended up with 5 flat twists in the back and 2 on each side. I also used purple perm rods instead of white. The outcome of the look was similar to what I got before but I may like the ends better.

Friday night , I air dried with SSI cranberry cocktail and APB 3 n 1 after cowashing. Then later on used Africa’s Miracle to braid the front up. Took it out yesterday.

Used a little Curls and Potion black curl magic yesterday on dry hair. My hair wasn’t fully dry so it expanded a little but I liked it

I didn't take a picture because it was bad but I did individual braids and only used the Camille Rose honey supercream as my leave in. My hair was dry and flaky by the next day

Going back to flat twists and real leave ins. Here is to hoping I didn't do too much damage.
