Full head baggying vs leaving it dry

Which is better for retention? My natural hair feels so dry like a wire sponge when it's not wet. I feel if I leave it in dry state, it will start breaking.

I'm doing a long term stretch (still deciding on going natural or not) and I have been doing full head baggying to prevent dryness and breakage. It has been working for this so far to prevent breakage but I'm getting massive matting even though I do two french braids. Since its wet, the braids loosen and get matted and my shed hairs also get knotted around the relaxed parts. Because of this, I have had to yank chunk of hair out. This defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do. I just started doing bantu knots instead and no matting so far, so I hope this solves the problem. However I'm still tempted to keep it dry but I wonder if my hair will grow as first and retain as much if I keep it dry.

what are the things and products u are using so far. That would help the forum do a better assessment of what you should do.

This full head baggying is supposed to lead to moist hair once it dries. If your hair is hard and dry after your baggy session then your conditioner is not doing its job. Sounds like a case of wimpy conditioner. See here http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?p=14996519#post14996519 Also, baggying using the Greenhouse Effect approach (GHE) sounds like a better option. You use all natural products and most importantly oils. See the 2012 Baggy challenge post: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=590021

When was the last time you used a clarifying or cheating shampoo? If you haven't done this in a while, you may need to. This is a possibility that you may have product build-up and this may be a reason why your conditioner/moisturizer isn't as effective as it should be.
