Hair and Exercise

Can anyone give me advice regarding hair and exercising?

What do you guys do?

Up until yesterday I was natural for 1 1/2 years. Never really exercised before going natural. Since January 2005, I have been dieting and exercising [lost 47lbs already....YEAH ME!!!!!] Anyway, now that I am permed again, how do you guys wear your hair when you exercise? How much are you washing it, etc.? As a natural, I condition washed my hair either every day or every other day.

I am open to any and all suggestions.

Congrats on the weight loss. When I wear my hair in twistout/braidouts or spiral sets my hair stays pretty decent, a bun would be great to wear, I just hate them.

WOW! 47lbs is great. You must provide details.

I use to wash my hair more often because of the all the sweat. My hair would get real salty and dry if I didn't wash it. Now I am the opposite of you, I am natural so I have more freedom with my hair. When permed I just washed it more frequently, maybe 2-3 times a week.

Wow! Congrats on your weight loss! I don't even know you and I'm so proud of your great accomplishment. ;-) <img>

I wear my hair in a bun or in a loose ponytail and pinned on top of my head. I try to wash my hair 2 times a week, since it's getting warmer. During the summer I may increase it to 3 times per week.

You should wear it in a bun. I used to exercise at least 5 days a week, but I hadn't discovered LHCF yet so I didn't know that i was ok to wash my hair often and that i needed to because of the salty sweat. Once I start exercising again, i'll be bunning and washing every two days, which means like 3 times a week.

First of all - congrats to you on your weight loss!

Like you, I am relaxed - I work out six out of seven days a week, meaning I might wash my hair that much (sometimes it depends on how much I sweat). I usually secure my hair with a scrunchy. One thing I do is combine a mild protein conditioner with a ultra-moisturizing conditioner during the summer.

I've been looking for a better answer to this question myself. I work out 5 mornings a week and then go to work. The dryness and damage which resulted to my hair (just like yours) is what brought me to LHCF. Now that I'm here, my hair is in better condition, but I still don't have any styling versatility with my workouts. I CW 3-4 mornings a week and put my hair into a wet bun. So the only answer I have is to CW often and bun. HTH.

i usually have my hair in a loose braid/plait as i workout first thing in the AM. I know there are a lot of ladies who CW after every workout and I may incorporate that into my summer routine.

I put my cheapie conditioner,a plastic cap, and scarf on. I wash it out after I'm finished working out.

I exercise in the mornings before work. I just wear my hair in a high bun, then after my workout and shower, I just take it down and style. There are pics in my album (the March 2005 folder). I wash it about every three days.

Anyway, I work out 7 days a week. I dump moisturizing lotion on my hair, comb it out, put it in two braids, tie the two braid ends together with a hair tie, and finally I tie a bandana around my head like a headband so the sweat doesn't get in my eyes.

I still only wash my hair once a week, on sunday nights. It sounds nasty, but for some reason my hair doesn't stink or anything...ANYway, good going with the weight loss, once again! Keep it up! :grin:

Well for all of you who want to know what the secret is.....unfortunately there really isn't any. I have been doing a mixture of thing, low carb/fat flush/low fat. I just move wherever my appetite takes me. For the most part I am doing low carb.

I have been working out about 4x a week, but about to bump that up to 6-7 cuz I am trying to get ready for my trip to St. Thomas. I want to look have way decent in a bathing suit, which by the way it has been about 5 yrs since I have worn one LOL!!
