Ladies with mid-back and longer hair. Do you switch up your hairstyle a lot? Do you only wear your hair up in a bun or roller set?

Once you reached your mid back and longer do you become more prone to "styling" you hair more?

Im currently mid back and :nono:...my hair is either straight or up in some sort of a bun.

I've been on youtube and I saw beautiful hairstyles... but some of them, I'm not sure how it would look on african american hair texture...some might come out straight up odd... Maybe its me.

Do you venture off and do these type of styles? Or would it look just down right like Fake???:ohwell:.. as in you got some fake hair glued/ seaborn celebrity hairstyle.

Hm. I watched the videos, and I don't think they would work on AA hair not because they would look fake (although the last two are not possible for most heads of hair without adding fake hair to achieve the level of fullness and density in the finished style), but because of the extreme and damaging level of manipulation these hairstyles require.

These style were developed for 1a type hair, which can be knotted, teased, backcombed and woven without permanent damage by a competent stylist. Our type hair is far too fragile to withstand that kind of abuse, even if it is long, and ESPECIALLY if it's relaxed. I cannot even imagine how much hair you would lose trying to get into one of these styles, and then trying to take them down.

I think if you are looking for new long hairdos to try, I wold stay away from the European videos and find some that were successfully done by ladies with your hair texture. If you attempt any of the hairdos in the video you posted, I doubt you will be MBL or longer for very long. :ohwell:

When I wear my hair in its natural state or flat ironed, I stick to the same hairstyles mainly bc they are my signature looks and I hate changing them. Those styles in the videos posted look dated to me.

I am not midback length and I attempt a lot of braided styles that one can do by themselves. They do not damage my hair at all; they are just braids/cornrows with a twist. I usually leave them in for a couple of days as well. I don't expect them to come out exactly like the video because my hair texture is different and I like the way they look on my hair as well.

Here are some of those I am subscribed to:

To me, its not something you would wear on a daily basis but something that could be worn at like a wedding or something.

But I can't help but be curious if any of our people do their hair like this... I never heard or seen anyone do them styles.

When my hair's in my natural state, I keep it in twist outs, buns, and my "twist-like" braids under a beret. These styles are simple for me. I hate complicated hair.

I flat-iron my hair once or twice a year. I keep it long and out. That's about it.

I'm not WL either but I do braid/twist my own hair. I agree with the previous posters that these hairstyles would work better for special occassions. The 1st and the last could definitely be protective styles. The others, too much hair is out to be worn often. I didn't see where any of them really required a lot of manipulation. The one where she teased her hair back, I doubt you would really have to do the teasing part if you have any body to your hair. As a 4, medium density I wouldn't need to tease my hair to get volume, I would just separate the curls.

The only reason I couldn't imagine doing these styles is because other than the last one they seem very time consuming and could be quite difficult to do yourself unless you really are great with styling. But if someone else was going to do it for me, then I would still stick to the 1st and the last because they would last longer.

Didn't watch your yt Ogoma. I think I'm maxed out on yt today

@Ogama, Girl thanks. I hate yt video links

Yeah, I can see doing styles like that once I hit APL. Now I know who to come to when I'm looking for flat twist styles :yep:

I think I'm between BSL and MBL and those styles (from the screen grab) don't look complicated to me. I'd definitely give them a try.
I LOVE switching up my look and experimenting with different styles but to keep manipulation low and keep HIH syndrome at bay, I typically keep styles for a minimum of 3-4 weeks.
Now, the only drawback is even simple styles are more time consuming once you get some length so a complicated one? FUHGETTABOUTIT.
When my hair was shoulder length I could achieve a cute braided style/updo in 25-35 minutes flat. Now? Um, 2 hour minimum.

It's funny that you posted those videos (and the ones Ogoma posted)... I plan on starting a yt channel sometime next year that will feature similar (but not too manipulative) hair styles featuring afro textured hair... I want to showcase various styles on our hair texture because you never see that... And I want something more than bantu knots & twistouts

I alternate between a braidout, (rare), braidout bun, regular bun, french twist, and just wearing it out and air dried (very rare). Pretty much just protective styles i can style quickly and are low maint.

I am so boring. I almost always part my hair to the right. See siggy, LOL! I either have that pin curled or just straight. I do side braids. Buns. Ponytails. Nothing really more intricate. I really don't like to do more. Queen Lazy.
