Help!! Extreme Shedding&breakage After Protein And Moisture Overload :-((

The photo with the short hair was taken last year my hair was overall healthy. The picture with bad lighting was on November 1st this year. I dunno if you can see the difference but I feel like my hair looks horrible even though others won’t see it.

I don't see a major difference, but I believe you when you say there is one.

Complete aside:

You look BEAUTIFUL!

I need your help. I want my eye and lip makeup to look just like that. I went for a $50 Sephora makeover yesterday and learned a lot but ended up wanting a different look.

So tell me everything.

What makeup and brushes did you use on your eyes in the first picture?

Exactly how did you get that eye makeup look?

What lip color and liner did you use in the first pic?

Thanks in advance!

You are so pretty @axumey. Your hair looks a tiny bit different in the second pic but it doesn't look too bad at all. Just give it some love and it'll be back on track in no time. By the way, good to see you posting again.

I believe you when you say it was the salt. At first my hair was like what is this magic, then it was like all hell broke loose with my hair as well. I had to stop using it. My hair does not like that salt at all :nono:.

So what did you do to stop the breakage? You guys I’m serious my hair breaks like craaaaazy :((((( it's the worst when it’s stretched but it’s okay as long as I wear it out like in the second picture.

Thanks hun :) I appreciate the support of everyone in here ❤️ Sooo I can’t upload photos right now..-,- but I use cheap products (don’t judge I’m still in Uni lol) besides the Mac foundation I use haha. I use a brown shimmery eyeshadow (from catrice it’s like 3€) that I blend on the outer corner of my eyes ( I dunno how to describe what I do lol) and I use a gold h&m eyeshadow on the inner corners. I wish I could upload a picture of the brushes but they are also some cheap brushes I bought years ago in a german drugstore (dm it’s their own brand of brushes) it’s really nothing fancy just normal blending brushes :). For my lips I use the nyx lipliner in SPL 828 and a red lipstick from catrice - I then use a brown catrice bronzer to get my lips Matt and brown. I don’t want them red all the time. The problem is I can’t find a nude lipstick that suits me so I use red and brown to mix it. I guess it’s easier for you to find a good lipstick that fits. I also had a Kylie lip kit in dolce k. But it’s way to expensive and I feel like you will find a similar colour in the us from another brand that is wayyyyy cheaper :D

That hair maybe damaged beyond repair.. you have Broken the bonds all the way down. What actually product do you have for a protein treatment? It doesn’t have to be a brand catered to Afro textured hair.

It’s time to seek out a professional.
Yep that’s what I also think :( I will cut it off but well..there are no hair technicians here that can see through the microscope what is wrong. You can take tests when you start to lose hair (like alopecia) but that’s it. Maybe it’s a health issue idk. I will talk to my doctor next week what the results of my blood tests are.

No more wash n gos if that is your style of choice. And you have to fully dry your hair. So try twist outs and braidouts. You have Shea Moisture products available to you? Or do you have to order online?
I found this video. I hope it can help in some way.
Yea my hair really feels weird and I really feel like it’s moisture overload. Might try the aphogee 2 step. My hair never matted before and my curls never been that loose and soft. Well I just wait until I know what my doctor has to say because it’s not just my hair that acts up. I’m tired all the time and sleeping more than usual (like I’m sleeping all weekend without going out like I usually do and just lay in bed) my nails break off non-stop - I first thought it was because I removed my gel nails but nope they didn’t break off like that before. My eczema has gotten worse sooo i really might be lacking in nutrition oh and I smoke cigarettes more than usual because I‘ve been stressed out the past months...it could be everything lol

Thanks for sharing!

Regarding your eye shadow:

So you use shimmery brown on the OUTSIDE, plain gold on the INSIDE, and what do you use on the lid? Do you use just one color on the lid, or do you use one color on the lid and a different color at the crease?

Thanks! I'm going to get me a gorgeous eye shadow routine down. LOL!

And no judgment: I don't think I'm EVAH going to be the type to spend a lot on makeup. Maybe foundation and powder, but not much else. I'm impressed!!!

Yes dark shimmery brown in the outside and gold on the inside and a base that is ‚nude‘ and looks similar to my foundation. So the colour I use on my lid is not really showy. I often just try to make the best out of cheap products and it really works for me :)

@Lucky me
Okay so let me get one thing straight!! I've been natural ALL MY LIFE, I always took great care of my hair (and my mother of course lol)

It's not like I don't know what to do BUT living in Germany often makes it hard for me to buy products that I really need and that are good for my hair. So back then when i thought about doing a protein treatment, it was Sunday (shops are closed on sundays here if you didn't know) + i am inpatient and didn't wanna wait a week until the protein treatment gets shipped to me from eBay/amazon. So I did the diy protein treatment (I really hate food in my hair BUT you often have no choice = living in Europe).

It really was okay. But it was dry some weeks later and I thought about doing it again and that's when it all started. I didn't know that i needed to moisturize afterwards...so let me be clear, I really do read instructions and I would've known to not do it again if I had used the aphogee stuff. But I couldn't use it because I can't buy it here. I can't even buy JBCO or Shea Moisture products they don't sell it. So called Afro shops only sell relaxers and extensions so I only shop my hair products online but I also have to wait between 5-7 days and often pay 5€ for shipping. Don't come at me like that because I don't even have someone to talk about it because NOBODY here understands the struggle of having natural curly hair, I wouldn't ask for advice here if I knew somebody who could've helped me in the first place.

It's the first time I experience a setback like that in 22 years because my hair was always long and healthy I knew what to do to maintain it like that -

So if you don't understand what I was going through keep your judging thoughts to yourself!

It's okay op. She may not have meant it to come across harsh.

Suggestion for products: try shopping www.pakcosmetics.com they have decent pricing and quick shipping (not sure how long to Germany).

You've got some good advice. Good luck.

Now off to read to the end of the thread.

Your curls look denser in the second puc obvs you got some decent growth. Curls were more defined amd larger? in the first.

What was your regimen at each point that may help you get back to the look you prefer.

I never changed my Reginen for wash and gos. The LOC method + I invested in some good protein masques from redken. I really have to send some hair to a lab. Because I don’t know what ruined my hair right now it’s tricky -,-

I had to seriously wear my hair in protective styles but it still didn't stop breaking until I started an ayurveda regimen (see Curly Proverbz on Youtube - she has tons of videos on ayurveda hair care and my favorite for breakage is her henna tea rinse) and I clay washed with www.jmoniquesnaturals.com Dead Sea Mud Wash. That really helped a lot - applied once every 3-4 weeks.

You can get your own clay and make a mixture yourself though. There are plenty of YouTube videos that you can use to help you. Look for Rhassoul and Bentonite clay tutorials. Oh and I kept up with my protein treatments as well. It just seemed too soft because of the salt.

Based on some of the other symptoms you describe it sounds like you may
be suffering from vitamin D deficiency and low iron. Hopefully your blood work will come back and the doctor will be able to provide a course of treatment. My hair was shedding and breaking and I was always tired as well. Once I started taking iron and vitamin D it made a big difference. Good look and I pray you get answers.

Have you considered the two minute versus two step?

Yea I did bentonite clay also. It helped a little but there wasn’t a big difference in the long run. My hair needs more strength idk.. and yea i have some health issues also. I might use henna too and send my hair to a komaza specialist to see what’s wrong -and thanks I appreciate all of you :)

You're quite welcome

It all started when i was doing a selfmade protein treatment in august. I used some Whey Protein Powder and mixed it with water. I let it sit in my hair until it got hard and washed it out. Everything was fine until i decided to do it again (2 or 3 weeks later i dunno anymore). My hair started to break like crazyyyyy :cry3:

A month ago i read something about putting salt into conditioner to overcome protein overload -so i did that a week ago and even slept with it :badidea: my hair was soft after rinsing all the product out but it was shedding like crazy -so i thought i was having moisture overload.. so i was putting a tiny amount of protein powder into my Deep Conditioner and let it sit on my hair for 20min. But my hair was still shedding and breaking so i thought protein overload was trying to play me and i did the salt+conditioner thing again...i nearly cried after rinsing out. I lost so much hair, i now have a appointment at my gynecologist to check my hormones because of the extreme shedding.

The problem is that i don't know if i should a hard protein treatment again or just let my hair in twists and wash my hair with normal conditioners (with a little hydrolized keratin) and don't touch them for the next few weeks...

I also bought garlic pills today and did black tea rinses. I really would like to talk someone who is a natural hair specialist/stylist but that's pretty difficult in germany....i'm so confused, i dunno if it really is moisture overload (even though my hair stretches a lot when wet) because if this really is moisture overload, protein overload was a joke!

SO PLEAAAAASE HELP OUT :-((((

Were you able to fix this? I'm still dealing with moisture overload from 2 years ago. I can't even touch my hair without it coming out in chunks :(
