Question How to Understand Icons and Unread Posts

I must be missing something with the icon legend corresponding to the envelopes next to post. I am looking at post and threads I know I have not viewed recently but the icon indicates that the thread has no unread posts.

Example: If I read all the posts in a thread at 10:15 pm on Thursday and log in on Friday and there is a new post at 6:15 am the icon shows it as no unread posts.

Is there something I am missing? Is it marked as read based on my reading a thread or just my refresh of a page? or something else?

Thanks

There is no real message tracking in any of the boards that are out there. Some of them get it very close to perfect but there is always a margin of error.

Now a pure message tracking (read unread messages) will be extremely taxing to the forum's database, especially with the size of the forum that we have.

What usually helps is:

- When you want to leave the forum, you log out. This way the system knows that the minute you log out, everything new that comes in will be new.
- Use the 'New' button at the top toolbar. That gives you all the new posts.

It is not perfect and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
