Instant Email Notification

Hello.
Remember when members would receive email notifications in personal email?
I'd like to know why the Instant Email Notification doesn't work anymore...hasn't for quite some time. Is this old fashioned or something.
please assist.

I was subscribed to the Random Thoughts thread located in the Off Topics forum. I received email notification of new posts.
