It's odd sometimes my hair looks jet black and other times it looks slightly off jet black, I'm going to say between a 1 and a 1b.

Between 2 and 4. :ohwell: Sucks cuz I can never find hair my color. I rinsed my hair jet black every fall growing up cuz it gets brown and streaky in the summer. I stopped when some African ladies at the bss told me it was too dark for my coloring.

It's dark brown. I always believed it was black and it often looks jet black in pics but it's brown. When I ask people what color my hair is they say brown lol. I still see myself as black haired.
When I've colored my hair black, strangers can tell it's colored and they've made remarks about it :spinning:.
My hair also fades from heat damage so it tends to get a brassy shade to it esp in the sun. It looks orange.

But I swear my color changes... some days it's rusty and others it's very nearly black even under bright light. The only theory I have for this is that it depends on how my cuticle is sitting... I think it lightens when it's dry and turns a rich near black when it's more moisturized.

At the moment my hair is very much dark dark brown. Granted, my natural hair has never seen the light of day, (don’t judge me), so I’m sure the color will change once it does (when I get to my ultimate length goal).

I have black eyes too. For the longest time I believed they were actually black
They're darker than either parent and my brother's eyes. My brother has dark amber eyes.

Yes. When my hair is freshly dyed, people who see me regularly will do a double take. I think some of the warmth from the brown makes my skin tone look different.

Very dark brown. It was a medium brown when I was a child and is nearly black now.

Dark brown. In the summer it lightens up considerably so it's reddish brown in my crown area.

Two summers ago I was relaxed, and combined with the relaxer, my hair was looking like this during the summer:

Some say only Native Americans and Asians have truly black hair.

Me, too! Black hair is beautiful but won't work for my undertones.

It’s a NuBlack/Hotep colour (dingy faux black) versus being a beautiful I’m black n’ I’m proud black (rich dark black).

I once tried a blonde colour and it totally washed me out. Surprisingly when I went red everyone said it totally popped and worked with my undertones.

Same for me. When my hair takes on an ashy brown color, it's a sign that it is dried out. Also, looks lighter when straight.

My hair has always been 1b to me. It was always what I called an ugly brown. Like others when my hair is dry it looks very brown and when properly moisturized it looks black. It took me years to notice this though. My father asked me once (when I first started taking really good care of my hair) if I dyed my hair black. When I said no he was so surprised and said it looks so dark and shiny.

My hair is a black. It has a soft, matte sheen to it in it's a natural state.

Dark brown. I'm always putting a jet black or velvet black rinse on it.
