MTG, SULPHUR AND MY GRANDMOTHER--WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS

Why didn't I think of this sooner?????

My grandmother (the lady on the left in my avatar btw) was a beautician.... from the 1930s-1980s. When I was little she would always talk about her grandmother's hair and the "special" incredients she used. Anyway, she started making her own hair grease" and the base included castor oil and sulphur.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THAT.... My grandmother would always use this on her customers' hair, especiall the ones who experienced slow hair growth or breakage.

Isn't the main ingredient in MTG sulphur?? Okay this is making me a little less afraid to try it.....

Yeah many ladies here make their own version of MTG, basically sulfur and a heavy oil like castor oil or olive oil. Plus it won't have that MTG smell.

Where can I get sulfur? Does it come in a powder form or liquid? I have heard a lot about it. I might just try it to see. Thanks!

Heck I used to use Sulfur 8 hair grease back in the day. It used to work well for growth. I just bought some so I can start using it again on my afro. Hopefully I will experience excelerated growth in a few months. :)

I noticed that most who use sulphur mix it with a liquid, but can you mix into you grease, oils or moisturizers?

Check out this thread on page 12 towards the bottom

the jar with the orange lable is what I got from CVS, I believe other places to buy it are mentioned..I mixed mine with my left-over MN & Lenzi's Request and I used alot of peppermint & lavender EO to help with the odor...HTH

Has anyone ever tried the Herbs & Sulphur Scalp Pomade by Qhemet Biologics? I'm really thinking about ordering this so that I can start using it on my scalp. I have some Glover's Ointment w/ 5% sulfur, but I'm not really digging the petroleum in it.

Is this the yellow sulfur to mix 1oz sulfur and like 9oz of any kind of oil? Thanks

Here is the correct one, not to say that one isn't right, but I've never heard if it, and the one used should be free of any impurities, which is Sublimed Sulfur, Flowers of Sulfur or Precipitated Sulfur, which means all impurities were lifted away and its just pure Sulfur left. Anyway this is the one I use for My Growth Mix:

I have used MTG for 1yr now. I do notice my growth is alittle faster but also my hair is alot more thickert than it was b4! I use it sometimes everyother day or everyday just depends how I feel. It does have a smell if u use it daily and not keep ur hair washed. Just smells like bacon!:lachen:

Me too! As a matter of fact, it wasn't that long ago...a few short years since I last used Sulfur 8 and MTG (not together, lol). I eventually threw out my MTG cuz it was a lil too strong-smelling and drained onto my neck and ears. It caused my skin to start peeling lightly. It gave good growth, but I too would like to make my own form to eliminate the smell strong smell like MTG had, but still get the effects of sulfur. I love Sulfur 8 (yellow jar) and plan to get some ASAP. Unfortunately, you can't get rid of the smell of Sulfur, but you can mask it! It definitely has a distinct smell, which some even attribute to being a symptom of demonic possession (someone reeking of the smell of sulfur)! Be careful who you are around while wearing it, or certain religious folks might be looking at you a bit funny, lol (but I'm really serious).

Hey, I read the ingredients for this Sulfur plant fungicide product from your link above, and it only contains 90% sulfur. Since its for plants, it may contain something else you may not want in your hair! Be careful, but the site Leesh posted at Medichest Company's website may be more helpful. The sulfur they sell seems to be especially made for pharmacists and compound specialists who wish to mix it with other agents for skin and scalp problems. That's one I would be comfortable using to make my own mix.

You want to use pharmeceuatical grade sulfur. The one for plants has other stuff added that is not good for the body. I got mine from the walmart pharmacy. You just need to ask for it. I think every pharmacy carries it.

Hey Ladies, Just wanted to add that I've been using this Brand for about a Month and it is fairly pleasant, and yes it is for compounding, I actually got the Info from a "Vet" here on Our Forum, and Shes been using it for sometime, and I must say that I have been getting some tremendous growth from it too, its much better to mix Your own, then You can use whatever Oils You like, and You don't have to be leary of the other ingredients in MTG, I did use that but I feel much safer sith My own mix, and Sha76, when I was looking for the Sulfur I went to My local Walmart and the Pharmacist would'nt sell it to Me, told Me it just for Pharmacist to compound with, Go Figure, but in any case the shipping from Medichest was Very Efficient. Have Fun Ladies, I am Loving the Results!
