We've had many discussions in various threads about hit or miss products for our low porosity hair. Let's use this thread to consolidate the staples we cannot be without!

Hopefully this thread can serve as a quick reference for those struggling to find products to combat low porosity hair.

If possible, let's try to keep the thread to hits only (please).

Don't forget to swing by the Low Porosity Misses thread and name your misses.

For general discussion, check out the Low Porosity Support Thread.

Saludable84, I tried Paul Mitchell Shampoo One and LORD My hair was a MESS. Been thinking about trying it again for a clarifying shampoo (I shampoo at least twice a week now but I have been thinking about looking into clarifying once a month).

divachyk, I liked the Bee Mine Botanicals when I used it. Do you pre-poo with it before?

faithVA, how do you like the As I am Leave in? Right now the only leave in I am using is the Curly Curl moisturizer. I used to use the Giovanni Leave-in Spray but it gave my hair a weird coating so I have stopped using it but I think I want to start using a leave-in again.

If the Paul Mitchell Shampoo caused a mess the first type I would suggest trying something different. Sometimes we lo po ladies try to make things work when we shouldn't. There are plenty of things that will work for you and not cause you trauma :yep:

I love the As I Am. It is my staple leave-in. It immediately softens and smoothes my hair. But FYI, are hair is not similar. I have WWE wrestling hair  It takes a lot to take the fire out of her.

I agree with faithVA if it didn't work don't bother. I dilute it now, but I originally bought it as a clarifier. Honestly, I had such a hard time finding a shampoo that I couldn't even recommend a good one. Carols daughter was good, but only when I diluted it as well.

I think we need to keep this thread going. Maybe when we post we can say whether we are natural, relaxed, texlaxed, color treated. It might make a difference.

I am currently transitioning (14 months post) but was previously texlaxed. As I continue to transition, my LP hair seems to change, so some of my staples have changed. As it stands NOW, here are some products that work for me:

Shampoo (I have yet to find a regular shampoo that I love, so I mostly cowash and clarify once every 4-6 weeks)
ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo

Conditioners (Cowash Conditioners)
Shea Moisture Purification Mask
Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle
As I Am Coconut Cowash Conditioner

Deep Conditioners
BASK Cacao Bark
Silk Dreams RCA (although my hair isn't feeling it as much as it used to, so it may be removed soon)
BASK Vanilla Whiskey Repairative Hair Soak

Protein Treatments
Keracare Reconstructor (I use it every 4 months or so)

Leave-Ins
Jessicurl Too Shea (been a staple for years and still performs)

Oils
EVCO
JBCO (believe it or not, my hair can actually absorb this stuff when used LIGHTLY)

Moisturizers/Stylers
Camille Rose JAI Twist Butter (BOMB)
Camille Rose Aloe Whipped Butter Gel (see above)
PBN Sapote Hair Milk (especially on straight hair)

OP, I agree with Tasia. My 'misses list' could fill a dictionary...

Shampoo: homemade coconut shampoo and kinky curly shampoo to clarify.

Conditioner: trader joes tea tree tangle conditioner and Aubrey Organics honeysuckle rose for wash and go's. Aubrey organics GPB as deep conditioner, egg/mayo/honey/olive oil for deep conditioner. Aphrogee 2 step when needed

Leave-in: aloe, water, glycerine and oil mix

Oils/butter: grapeseed oil with peppermint and tea tree oil to seal, my own mango & avocado whipped butter mix. Naptural85 scalp oil mix substituting in the grapeseed oil instead of castor oil for oil rinses

I need to try this Camille Rose. The Sapote works for me on straight hair as well. I gave away my sample of Jessicurl :nono:

Camille Rose makes AMAZING butters. Very moisturizing and my hair absorbs them well unlike some other butters I have tried (for the most part, my hair HATES butters).

The Jessicurl was a bust for me....until i tried it as a leave-in and it has been my HG ever since! Did you try it as a leave-in or as a DC/ rinse-out conditioner?

The Sapote Hair lotion works very well (bumped the Silk Dreams Mocha Silk Hair Milk out of my regimen) but only on straight hair and since I don't straighten often, my bottle may last me until next Black Friday. I wish it worked well as a leave-in as well, but it has no slip for me..

I agree! Camille Rose is the only butter that has worked for my hair.

I posted this in the LP thread but I will repost:

As much as I hate to admit it, I used curl junkie curl fix which has aloe as the second ingredient and against my better judgement, it was really good. Left my hair stiff, hard and uncombable, but after I roller set it was nice and soft. I was feeling like a million bucks. I might stick it out with aloe in reconstructors because I really liked the smoother results. I think it might allow me to go longer with a protein treatment as well.

AgeinATL, I am having the same problem with RCA. I can only use it certain times of the year right now or it is too smoothing. Likewise with VS. I think the Shea What! is the only item I can use year round. I can't see myself going natural if this is how my hair is acting texlaxed smh.

*adding curl fix to my list*

I was about to curse my hair OUT because I just bought 4 jars of the RCA. Is it best to use in the warmer months?

Girl, being LP AND transitioning can be tough and it has cost me a lot of money trying to find products as my hair constantly changes what it needs/wants. Le sigh....

Well I'm gonna try the komaza to see if I truly agree. I didn't like the curl fix at first because like I said it left my hair hard and stiff but when I roller set it wasn't tooooo bad but when I took the rollers out it was pretty good. I don't hate it but I wouldn't recommend it yet either.

The RCA is better for me in warmer weather or humid weather. Otherwise it is too smoothing.

I totally agree and forgot to add this to my list. Water (distilled water) is my HG moisturizer. My hair instantly softens and is more manageable just by spraying it with water. After I spray my hair, I just apply my water-based moisturizer and my hair is happy.
