Newbie Seeking Advice (Pics Included)

Hello All!
I am a newly subscribed member of LHCF and was wondering if some of you ladies could give me a little advice. I think i am 4b, i'm relaxed and have damaged hair. About 2 weeks ago i removed my partial sew-in, wash, deep conditioned, and air dried my hair. Once hair was dried i assessed my hair for damage. (The pictures that i've included are from my assessment) My ends look like they are fried (from heat damage more than likely). So i wanted to get all of my damaged ended cut so i could start fresh. So about a week later i went to my stylist to get a PARTIAL relaxer and another partial sew-in. (My plan was to get the dead ends off and relax everything except for my nape) Which he sounded cool with over the phone. So i get there and he tells me that we need to relax the whole head. He says that by not relaxing the nape it will break off when i try to take my sew-in out. So i continue to tell him that i would prefer that he not relax the nape and he continues to push the full relaxer. Then he says "I wouldn't tell you how to do your job" That completely turned me off. And on top of that he didn't cut off all of the damaged ended he lightly dusted them.

What do you guys think? Would it have made a difference if i didn't relax the nape and gave it a break or was relaxing the way to go? Is it time to find a new stylist? If so can anyone recommend any in the Jacksonville, FL area?

Also based on the pics, is there any advice you could give me to get my hair back on track.

Regimen:
wash once per week and deep condition
products: Neutrogena Triple Moist
Neutrogena Deep Conditioning Mask
moisturize when needed
products: s-curl, seal with jojoba oil
nightly scalp massage
products: castor oil and rosemary oil
Occasional protein(usually before and after relaxers)
products: Aubrey Organics GPB or Bead Head Dumb Blonde Reconstructor

Thanks so much, sorry for being so long winded! Lol

You have to upload the pictures to a a online photo album before you can paste them here. Try to upload them to photobucket first.

But advice on the hairstylist. Even if you went there to ask him to shave a spiral into your hair, if you are paying him to do it, then he should do it. He is giving you a service and it is very noticeable that you know exactly what you want done. Go find another HS that will listen to what you want.

Yeah i think its time for me to find another HS as well. I can't believe he said that.

:welcome4: and if you want the pictures to view in your post you should put at the beginning of each link and at the end of each link.

As for your regimen, it looks good to me. If you like the products your using keep them up. Just make sure that when you are DCing, you use a plastic cap and some heat to make sure the conditioner has an opportunity to penetrate the hair shaft.

Your product list looks good and if they are working for you, continue to use them. My only input would be to keep a protein/moisture balance by responding to your hair. Mushy hair is too moisturized and needs protein (and vice versa). If you want to trim the dry ends slowly, just baby your hair and do protective styling. I wouldn't go back to that stylist b/c he's supposed to do what you want him to do. Even if your ends were SEVERELY busted and you said "don't clip," he shouldn't.

Thanks Inthemix08 I tried putting the and but for some reason when i look at the post i'm getting question marks where the pics should be.

I agree Latomian he should've listens, i'm gonna start looking for a new stylist, a good one is so hard to come by.

Do any of you ladies currently use a steamer? I was thinking about purchasing one to help with moisture retention. When my hair gets close to 4 weeks post relaxer it doesn't hold moisture at all.

IA with everyone -
1) Your stylist should listen to you and respect your wishes.
2) Your regimen sounds good.

@bolded - I bought a steamer to help with my moisture retention. It has done that and much more.

Here's a couple of threads on steamers - Take some time to read them. They contain information on the benefits of steaming and where to buy them.

I believe Ediese has created a thread on weaves and how to take care of them and your hair. Do a search to find the thread.

I wish you much success in your hair journey. I've learned so much on LHCF and continue to learn more and more everyday.

I think you should:
1) Dump the stylist esp since he isn't doing what you want him to do to your hair.
2) Your product selections I think sound good but maybe you should up your protein usage since you are relaxed and have damaged hair. Using protein makes your hair more pliable and actually help you maintain more moisture and makes hair less porous.

3) You also might want to add AVC rinse or PC to help correct porosity and close your cuticles. Since you stated your hair sometimes doesn't hold moisture.

Hope that helps some. :wavey:

welcome to the board!!
1) your stylist doesn't seem like he wants to listen to your suggestions, which isn't too cool, since it's YOUR money. seek out another stylist with a more professional attitude, and you'll be much happier.:yep:

2) like others said, maybe a light protein would strengthen your hair a bit. i adore Aphogee 2 minute-it's a very light protein.

3) i would go to another stylist, and start your hair journey off with a really good cut to get off all those damaged ends from the get-go.

4)perhaps a sew-in weave is not the best for your hair right now. it'd be good for you to learn the ins and outs of healthy hair care first, and maybe learn a few styles that can be accomplished on your own hair, e.g. rollersets, twistouts, braidouts, bantu knot outs, etc.

whew!! HTH!!

If you did not relax the nape you could experience breakage at the demarcation line (line between relaxed and natural hair). I think you should be fine. I honestly dont think you should continue to go to any stylist or relax your hair for a while until your hair is healthy again.

Also based on the pics, is there any advice you could give me to get my hair back on track.

I think you need to start off with a cut. You need to cut off those damaged ends (which you already stated). It is possible that you may have damage up to the middle of your strands from what I can tell. I would just suggest cutting 1-3 inches off and then begin low manipulation hair styles. I would start by doing a heavy duty protein treatment (once a month) to rebuild your hairs structure followed by a really moisturizing deep conditioner (this I would do once a week). I would lay off the relaxers for a while and concentrate on healthy hair care maintenance.

Thank You everyone for all the information and your advice. I'm definitely going to start with a fresh cut, there's no since in keeping the damaged hair. I'm gonna try increasing my protein as well.

@cmw45 I relax every 8 weeks.

I'm not sure how not relaxing without a sew-in would work for me. My new growth gets so hard i can barely comb it. I honestly don't know what i could do to my hair if i cut it short and didn't get a relaxer. Any suggestions?
