Shampoo Bars, DIY

This seems really simple, I've recently used a similar recipe to make customized soap.

Ingredients:
1 lb opaque Melt & Pour soap base (MP)* base,
1 teaspoon almond oil,
4 teaspoons shea butter,
1 1/2 teaspoons castor oil,
1 oz beeswax,
1 1/2 oz cocoa butter,
9 drops EO or FO,
colorant is optional.
Directions: Melt oils/butters & beeswax separate from MP base. When both are melted, combine & stir constantly until cooled. Add fragrance & color if using. Pour into mold & cool. Cut & package as desired.

Also, 1 teaspoon per lb. of jojoba oil can be added if desired.

*MP = Melt and Pour soap base. I picked mine up from Michael's for less than $10. The flavors they come in include: Shea Butter, and Goat's milk. (Michael's is a local craft store; they are also available online like on THIS site.

I believe this will be healthier, cheaper, and more convenient than regular shampoos; especially when traveling.

Just sharing.

shortdub78 Have you made shampoo bars, or are these gentle enough to be used as a shampoo bar? I have the shea butter MP on hand.

Last night I'd made and used the MP to make a soap-sugar-scrub-bar it worked fine in the shower; the shampoo bar concept didn't occur to me until after I'd washed my hair.

No, I make soap treats! But that is something I can look into to make for my friends. I like shampoo bars, but they leave buildup on my hair. This is a great idea though.

Thanks for sharing! I'm a big crafter so this is right up my alley. Is their a substitute for beeswax? My hair hates it with a passion.

@overtherainbow

I don't know if the Beeswax is even necessary. I would just skip it, when I do try this recipe I'll add Coconut Oil, and Jojoba oils instead.

Your post got me wondering if a clarifying shampoo bar exists. They do! Here's a source! I'm thinking (well...imagining) that the Goat's milk MP base (lactic acid) should be a good soap base, with a little Baking Soda added, that should be a simple recipe.
