Starting Locs

Ok, I searched the forum and I can't seem to find any threads about this for some reason. My question is: Are there any comprehensive guides that talk about the different type of locs and methods out there?

I'm relaxed, I don't want to big chop just yet, I also want to be able to maintain the locs on my own. Anyone know where I should start looking?

Tia!

Loc'd up and loving it!
:hiya: You can find some info in the 2012 Healthy Locs thread http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=591147.

I'm no expert on locs, I've only had mine since May 2012 so I'm still in the learning process. I use the interlock method, similar to what is shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jEzdclXZkg.

Prettipoison27 of youtube has a pretty good video that helped me when I started out "8 Tips for Starting Your Own Locs" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UiH1kkEy3A

At the moment I don't maintain my locs on my own but I plan to learn eventually.

Nappturality.com also helped a lot when I first started. Lots of great information there.

Hope this helps!

My daughter transitioned to locs from 2strand twist. It took well over a year for it to totally loc. She learned how to palm roll from youtube. Friends told her how to care for her hair. Her locs are pretty and after four years they are almost bra strap.

since you don't want to big chop yet, interlocking would be best for you. you can try sisterlocks. traditional locs work best with natural hair and loc quicker than straight/relaxed hair. i had locs a few times. mine started with two strand twists with 2 inches of hair. you can also start with braid locs. my hair takes at least 2-3 months to start the budding/locing process. it can take 6-12 months for locs to mature. if i go back natural, locs will be the path for me.

nappurality.com and youtube should offer more help.
