The FDA and the End of Supplements

I received this in email:

ACT NOW! CALL YOUR U.S. REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS. THEY LISTEN
WHEN THEY THINK THEY MAY LOSE THEIR CONGRESSIONAL SEAT! TELL THEM TO STOP
FDA DOCKET NUMBER 2006D-0480!
The FDA has reported that approximately one-third of all adult
Americans have reported participating in or using some form of "complementary
and alternative medicine" and officials estimate nutritional supplement
sales total about $5 billion a year in America.
The medical establishment now wants this money for itself. Under FDA
Docket number 2006D-0480 vitamins and herbs would be controlled by the
FDA, and could require prescriptions from a Medical Doctor.
Americans who do not trust the U.S. government to act in the interest
of its citizens over the interests of pharmaceutical companies have good
reason to feel this way. The amount of dangerous pharmaceutical drugs
that get recalled is testament to the fact that human beings can be
used as guinea pigs because the FDA allows the pharmaceutical industry to
release drugs that haven't been properly tested.
Merck has been donating to state legislators across the nation who in
return are working to require young girls to be given Merck's $300
vaccine that prevents a virus that is spread only through sexual contact.
Here in Texas, Governor Rick Perry signed an "Executive Order" to make
every school girl have this vaccination. Fortunately "Talk Radio"
stations in Texas alerted the populace to this, and the Texas legislature
was swarmed with calls and emails. There is only one thing that will
make a politician turn against big business and that is the threat of
losing their office on election day. The Texas Legislature has just
passed a bill outlawing the enforcement of Governor Perry's "Executive
Order". Perry says he will veto the bill, but there are enough votes in the
legislature to overturn the veto. Politicians do listen to the public
when their jobs are on the line! Perry also said there was no
"conflict of interest"; however, his son works for Merck.
This new move by the FDA is designed to once and for all destroy the
1994 DSHEA law that has made supplements 'legal' while eliminating
nutritional supplements and natural medicine from the United States, ensuring
monopoly profits and control by drug companies and the FDA.
Under these proposed guidelines, FDA 'experts' (the same officials who
re-approved Vioxx after it had killed over 50,000 Americans) will
decide whether herbs, and vitamin supplements are to be regulated as drugs
and medicine. If the FDA experts, in their infinite wisdom, decide
that these things are to be reclassified, they will essentially be
outlawed, stripped from the shelves, and regulated out of existence. Anyone
who dares to manufacture, promote or sell such products may be branded a
criminal.
Wording directly from the FDA plan states: "...if a person decides to
produce and sell raw vegetable juice for use in juice therapy to promote
optimal health ... and if the juice therapy is intended for use as part
of a disease treatment regiment the vegetable juice would also be
subject to regulation as a drug."
Keep in mind the FDA is the agency that openly allows the mass
poisoning of the public with "food additives" such as sodium nitrite,
aspartame, sodium benzoate, sorbic acid, potassium sorbate, and "natural
flavors" (the new name for MSG, a known brain neurotoxin).
The FDA, in its announcement, said the federal government has been
investigating and monitoring "complementary and alternative medicine" since
1992. It also said "depending on the ... therapy or practice, a
product used ... may be subject to regulation." Secondly, it noted, the law
does not exempt alternative medicine products from regulation.
In reality, 2006D-0480 would eventually change everything, including
your life expectancy. The FDA realizes that alternative medicine has far,
far more solutions to chronic diseases than mainline medicine, and that
panics the medical establishment.
The United States, Canada and Mexico, under the auspices of NAFTA and
the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, are joining
together to crackdown on public access to supplements and vitamins.
This Trilateral Cooperation Charter reflects a globalist desire to advance
the interests of the large pharmaceutical companies by reining in the
food supplements industry worldwide. This is shown is efforts such as
the Codex Alimentarius Commission that was created in 1963 by the Food
and Agricultural Organization and the World Health Organization, both
official groups within the United Nations. The Codex Alimentarius
Commission claims that their main purpose is to protect the health of consumers
and ensure fair trade practices in the food trade worldwide, but the
truth is that the Codex Alimentarius Commission is dominated by corporate
multi-national interests that do not have as their primary concern the
health interests of the people they claim they are in business t
o protect, not if that health interest is better served by alternative
food supplements and alternative medicine. They have a business with
disease - it's not in their best interests that people be healthy. The
medical establishment understands clearly that you make no money by
curing people, you only make money by treating people.

I haven't verified this but thought it was worth posting since supplements is a viable way many encourage healthy hair growth.

This..just...I'm almost speechless at the blatant audacity of this country's government/and most especially the medical field. It is soo much more of a business than it is anything else and with everything else that they can't and do not make a direct profit from, stamp it illegal and make it a requirement to go through them. Kinda their tactic with Marijuana and Glaucoma patients. In 10 years I can see it now, people on the corner selling Biotin, $1 for each mg. I think many ailments and diseases can be cured and suppressed through vitamins and herbs and natural things God provided for us and at a much lower cost than these 'prescription drugs' and services these physicians provide and rather than seeing it as a blessing for the better health of people, all they can think of is their bank accounts. This sucks, I'm moving to Canada and talking all the vitamins and herbs I can with me. I doubt they are going to truly get away with this though, but hey, they ARE the goverment.

There are 2 sides of this as well. The FDA really does not have enough control over certain products. They are missing the power that they need to really take care of the e. coli on Spinach situation, the wheat gluten from China (which we are finding out they really contaminated), and the peanut butter debacle. I don't have a problem of them getting more control if it means safer food products and supplements, even if I have to go to my doc to ask for a script for biotin, oh well. I took a product from Vitamin shoppe that turned out to be contaminated with lead, and both DH and I have had so many bouts with food poisoning we don't bother with going out unless it is to one of our local places that we trust. I am not for over-regulation of supplements for corporate profits, but at the same time our food supply is not even safe and I have a hard time believing the supplement supply is in tip top shape either.

My mom said the pharmaceutical companies are pushing this because people are not taking the drugs they used to take. A lot of people are looking for alternatives to drugs that have horrible side effects in addition to the symptoms you're already having. The US is the only country where the doctors are millionaires. The reason they are so rich is because they give people prescriptions for medicine they don't need to keep them coming back. I know people who felt fine before they started visiting the doctor but now they're in worse shape. When I get home I will post a couple of the websites where people are drawing up petitions against this.

Yup it is called SID (supplier induced demand). I wouldn't necessarily call physicians RICH as the only ones making obscene money are those specialists such as cosmetic surgery, etc. which for the most part are not medically necessary procedures.

In the end it is a 5 billion dollar industry - I figure they have to figure how to get their cut.

My neighbor goes to an herbalist for her seizures b/c she says the traditional medicines are ineffective. She is doing much better, hasn't had a seizure in over 3 months.

Hopefully they will reinstate her driver's license.

I'm not sure it it's as rigorous as some of the information has been reported (mine and other posts) but the actual docket can be found here:

This was posted February 27, 2007 on the FDA.Gov website. It is shown as a DRAFT GUIDANCE. On page 4, it says "This draft guidance, when finalized, will represent the Food and Drug Administration's
(FDA's) current thinking on this topic. It does not create or confer any rights for or on
any person and does not operate to bind FDA or the public. You can use an alternative
approach if it satisfies the requirements of the applicable statutes and regulations. "
