I was not aware that this company is no longer black owned. I have seen the company phrase it as a partnership, but they were sold to MAV beauty.

It seems a lot of people did not know as they kept getting tagged as black owned business. With the "buy black" initiatives happening in the last few weeks, they have had to become more transparent.

Does this affect your support of the brand?

I’m not a fan of her actual hair products that I’ve tried however I swear by her hair vitamins.

I don’t think I’ll stop supporting. If she had a sale I’ll take advantage but Mielle Organics and Camille Rose will be my first choices. I like their vitamins as well.

Yes, I 've had to debunk this on many Facebook groups over the last few weeks. People straight arguing they're black-owned because the lady is still the CEO or something then I post receipts and they're like, oh ok.

BTW, I think MAV beauty is owned by a white Canadian or something. Need to look that up to be sure.

^^^MAV beauty is a Canadian company. Renpure is one of their brands.

When did the original owner sale her brand?

I will still buy their products. I have a few staples with them.

I don’t have must haves from the brand so I guess I’m good. I'll be more heartbroken if the lady who owns Honeypot sells.

Late last year. In November. It was probably in process for a while before the sale was finalized.

Since breaking up with Diva Curl I have been using The Mane Choice exclusively for wash and conditioner. Their gel has been a staple of mine since it came out. I have committed to buying from black owned business as much as possible so I will try to find a different black owned shampoo and conditioner I like as much but I am sticking with their hair gel. It gives me mega definition for a week long wash and go.

    I'm not surprised :perplexed:

The Ancient Egyptian gel and the Tropical Moringa braidout glaze are staples though so I'll continue to grab those during sales.

I don't have much from them, but I do really enjoy the Carrot & Green Tea Reconstructor.

Not a st.aple or must have, but I do like it.

I love these products, especially the 4 Leaf clover line, I have type 4z hair and it is extremely dry, these products have been my saving grace. I have tried everything and I mean everything and these products by far leave my hair moisturized for days. I can't stop touching it. My twist outs are gorgeous and have lots of swing. I also take the vitamins and have been for a long time. As long as they keep making products that work I will continue to patronize this brand. I hate that it's no longer black owned but it was conceived by a black entrepreneur who made a lot of money and I'm proud to be a part of that!

I don’t think anyone is judging if we use products not black owned. Most of us try, but if a product works, it works!!

I had no idea. I have tried several of the Mane Choice products; I like a few of them but no real staples. Recently I finally gave in and purchased the hair vitamins during a sale since I have heard so many rave reviews about them. I would not have a problem purchasing from Mane Choice in the future as long as their messaging stays the same and products continue to work for me.

You're fine to keep using it. People don't realize that a black owned brand being sold means that it was successful! Part of being a small business is wanting to be sold! That lines a black person's pockets. that a brand gets sold is not necessarily bad. It's usually good! People are being short sighted here IMO

Ownership changes often include formula changes. That’s the main thing I become wary of. I’m still sideeyeing the change in Shea Moisture’s Purification Masque (original clay based one).

That's the biggest gripe that most of the users have. She claims that the formula won't change. But that's her talking less than a year after and still having some kind of input in the company. That may change in the future.
