What are some protective styles that can be done on shoulder length relaxed hair?

I would like to do a bun, but my ponytail is pretty short. So I probably need to look at other options.

Have you thought about using a phony pony or attaching some hair weft hair or kanekolon (braid hair) to your ponytail to bulk it out for a bun?

Be careful of your edges. I’ve never been relaxed but I don’t try to bun my natural hair on a regular basis till at least shoulder length because it places too much stress on the hairline. I would suggest maybe braids or sew-ins instead.

you might also consider just doing low manipulation styles at this stage, i.e. rollersets or flexirod sets. You could take the time to enjoy your hair since your ends won’t yet be rubbing on your shoulders anyways.

Adding hair to thicken the bun is a great idea!

@Flower7 Is your hair long enough to do a Southern Tease bun? This has always been my go to type of bun. Very easy to do on short - medium length hair.





I have used hair pins, clips, sticks, forks, hair zings, and ponytail holders to secure this style.
