Moknowshair Opened A Salon In Nyc

I've seen her straighten all hair types. She's very talented, but I'm all the way in Texas. If I'm ever in NY I'll definitely stop by

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't think she's great at doing hair. Wouldn't pay for her services even if it was dirt cheap
I used to think the same thing when I followed her videos earlier on. I can't speak for her more recent videos that are put out where she's worked on other people's head. When I watched her I thought she was best at doing her own hair. She was bomb at doing her own hair, from the wash n gos, coloring, buns, rollersets.. anything she did with her hair looked good. Her 4a and upwards clients... ummm not so much. Their silk presses sucked and some of her steps just seemed unnecessary. Hopefully that's all changed now. I understand the audience she's trying to cater to and the type of clientele she's trying to attract but I think her prices are kinda steep for being such a new hair dresser. Idk. Seems a bit much to me since she's newly starting out. I normally pay $120 or so for a silk press and trim and that would include a steam treatment.

the results of her 4a+ plus clients often lacked moisture and movement. The wet set styles were kind of stiff and the straight styles were too. If you pay close attention the ends aren't smooth.

Sorry but she has them looking a mess with those incomplete looking hairstyles. All those products she uses (mind you a lot are high end) and she still can't make it look good or professional. And $100 for those kids hairstyles that don't look good either, yeah no. Only video I've seen with great results was one of her personal straightening video.

Exactly! All their presses looked stiff and weighed... not flowy and light and smooth.

Agreed !
I think that's why I stopped watching her videos, b/c the videos she did on others left me unimpressed and she and I have total different hair types so no real value add for me to continuously watch her vids on herself. Plus all the products she used just seemed a bit much and the clients hair still came looking unprofessional.
I did see a recent pic of another youtuber, (don't know her name) but I believe Mo cut her hair into what was supposed to be an edgy type bob it seemed? I kinda get the look she was going for but the bob just ending up looking... not fully done, unpolished, unfinished.. something was missing. I hope she'll get better as time goes on. A friend of mine who has a little looser hair type to Mo wanted hair advice and I told her to watch Mo's videos because they would help her.. My hair... nahhhh, lol.

Yeah... her work looks nice but not for the price she's charging. I'm fairly certain I can go to most Dominican salons and for $20 - $40 can get the same results as the client's hair she's working on and the ones I've seen rollerset so there's not that direct flat iron heat on the hair. Also... $75 for you to Skype me to talk about my hair even though you've never seen/touched it... nah, I'm good

Good luck to her though. I hope she does well.

Her prices are out of control. $100 for some perm rods!!
?????

Nobody is paying that in Kansas City, seriously. With a salon on every corner and some very good salon professionals? No ma'am. But I love her hair. And honestly, that hair color is VERY TIRED. I like it but it's the only one she promotes.

ETA: I'm doing a comparison. I dunno Devachaun prices but they have YEARS of licensed experience...so, dunno. But other curly salons:

that hair cut looked like when white moms cut their own daughters' hair for the summer. They put the hair in a low pontail and cut straight across. You can tell they didn't go to a salon.

Doh...it said, "NYC." LOL. I thought she opened one in KC. Anyhoo, I see her repping for Aveda. No wonder.

People will pay extreme prices for their hair so she will probably do great. Aren't her prices just high as the other popular natural salons in New York? Those places do unfinished looks as well and focus more on haircare.

I do think she uses too much product. Not sure if it's because of sponsorship or not.

It's hard to straighten 4a hair plus, without using high heat. People are scared of heat damage, but you gotta go there.

I have type 4 hair and can get sleek straight hair at 300 - 320 degrees. Moisturized hair, products and technique make the difference. Too much product or heavy products give me stiff less straight results similar to Mo's clients.

I'm 4a and there is no way on this earth I can straighten my hair at those temps. (Professional or at home) But I understand the product usage though, and use moisturized hair makes a big difference.

I also think what kind of type 4 you have. Silkier type 4 hair is easier to straighten than coarser type 4 hair. My hair is coarse type 4 hair, and needs high heat to get it straight. I think technique and products are essential to getting type 4 hair straight without heat damage

Her skills are mediocre at best. Her curly styles are better than her straightened styles. Your average Dominican salon will give WAY better results for a fraction of a price (albeit at the price of a good chance of getting heat damage). Even her clients with type 3 hair she did a meh job getting their hair straight, so I wouldn't dare going to her to straighten my coarse type 4 hair!

Yes there is nothing silky about my hair! Lol

I have cottony hair not an ounce of silk.

See my hair is coily/curly, and it's not silky, so I have to really fight to straighten the coil pattern. My friend has 4b hair, but her hair is cottony. It doesn't take much to straighten her texture. And for me, it really is the product that will help, but I'm searching for a product line that is going to give me the moisture I need.

Word! I was thinking the same thing.

I used to get poofy results at 450 but after getting my technique down I don't go past 400 and the hair is sleek and straight with body. I personally don't go past 375 on my hair though
I do 400-415 at the most. That gets my hair sleek. 375 will get it straight, but not silky. What product line do you recommend? I got a license, so that's not an issue.

Girl I was looking at your avi. Your texture is much more silkier/fine than mine.

Flat ironing above 370 results in heat damage for me. My nape, bangs and crown turn into ramen noodles at 400. 450 obliterates my curl pattern.
