I think we all knew that tension can be used to mold the hair without heat (just think about what rollers, straight plates, twist outs and braids out do), but I never thought our hair was so amazing that it could do so within a minute! If you think about it, you can use any tool of a similar shape to do this. Maybe you could even use things that are shaped differently (like a rectangular tool) to achieve crimps?? For curls like in the video, you could probably even use a plain old jumbo straw (one of the hard ones so it doesn't bend under pressure).

I would assume that if you detangle well, use a product that shellacs the hair, and then pull the hair taut and hold it for maybe a minute or two longer, you should get the same results (if not better) with 4c hair. I figure this because every defined twist out/rod set that I've ever seen on type 4c hair has had those things in common.

This just makes me notice how blessed our hair type is. No other hair type is naturally curly enough to form into curls so quickly. Straight hair would just fall straight again once releasing. If I did it I would start with 90% dry hair, then use a strong hold custard or gel of some type and make sure I get my hair and the roots pulled super taut for 2 minutes per section. I would use larger sections to cut down on time. Then let it dry 100% before separating carefully. It would like just like a flexi rod or perm rod set, but much easier and so much quicker. No sleeping in rods or sitting under the dryer. I was never able to get the hang of flexi rods or perm rods, but I think even I could to this. Will try when my hair is shoulder length.

My 4b hair is super curly. I sometimes do exactly this to quickly fix certain curls in my hair if they are frizzy. I just use the end if my orange rattail comb. If I had the patience, I could see doing this with a plastic mixing spoon from the dollar store.

IF I had the patience. LOL.

I Am So Blessed

I'm easy going.
I used to do this all the time back in school at my desk with a pencil. I even showed my teacher my curls in the front of my head that I achieved lol. I think i was in 5th grade. I'm pretty sure I used some saliva :look::blush2::blush2:

I am here to tell y'all that this can be achieved with a pencil or pen, believe me. Been there done that. I can't believe this garbage.

Why do natural hair focused companies charge an arm and a leg for anything?? This tool should be no more the $19.99. They stay trying to take black women to the cleaners.

I totally agree. I was shocked myself. Even with a 25% coupon I found....+ shipping is $45. I don’t know who the owner is cause I’m curious of this price too. At the same time, I spent $75 on French bouffant rollers, and $45 on curlformers. So ima be the guinea pig and purchase this in a few weeks. I’m sure the cost to make this is .89 cents. but that price needs to be cut.

Product suggestion for 4c hair?

I saw the video and was like

The reason the curls look different on Instagram is because they are done on different curl textures. You are not going to get grey flexirod curls with 4c hair and this device.
Do comb coils even really work on 4c hair? If so, product suggestions?

I’m not about wasting my time.
