How many of you are trimming/dusting your own hair? Just curious because im having a tough decision whether I should do my own trim/dust when I get a relaxer or let a professional do it (last trim April 2009) I'm kind of scared she'll cut off all my progress:nono:. Also How many of you are relaxing at home?

i dont trust myself with scissors no mam not at all so i let my stylist do the works when im ready she also perms the hair because i dont want to attempt that myself then over process or under process the hair

^^ co-signing

I've tried to relax before and I'm pretty bad, and I'm not willing to "learn" how to do a chemical service on my own head when I can just pay someone who actually knows what they are doing...but if I COULD do it myself, I would. I always have to readdress to only put the relaxer on the new growth, only cut a little, etc. I understand why many of the ladies here who can relax/trim themselves do.

I trim my own hair. I no longer relax my hair myself.

I currently have braids, when I take them out and get a relaxer, I will have my stylist trim my hair because I know she's good and doesn't get scissor happy. After that, I will do my own follow-up trims, and I leave the hard part to her.

Please don't have a stylist trim/cut your hair if you haven't seen them do other clients' hair. That what lead me to believe that my stylist not only knows what she's doing, but she also cares about hair, and will not cut all my (healthy) hair off.

I trim myself. I bought a special tool from Sally's that helps you to cut a hair. That, plus a ruler, ensures that I only cut what I want.

i have pics in my fotki but I haven't uploaded an explanation yet.

i chose "other"....i relax myself and dont trim at all. im sure i will goto a stylist once i reach my goal to even things up though.

Thank you Tiffers! You are so helpful. I wanted to get my hair trimmed but I'm afraid to go to a stylist too. Now I don't have to. I will be using this method after I relax in Sept. :yay::yay::yay::yay:
You're very welcome! I'm glad I could help!

I let my stylist do everything. But we have a very good relationship. I only trim 2x a year and she only relaxes the roots.

Thanks to LHCF I learned to self-relax two years ago. Later this year I will be going back to using permanent color. It will probably be touched-up three times per year. I'll be going to my stylist for that, while I'm there she can dust my ends.

She will probably be shocked to see me come thru the door again.

I chose 'other', because I didn't see the option of the stylist trims. I self relax. I use Hawaiian Silky or Silk Elements and have learned through LHCF the proper way to relax without over processing. My stylist gives my hair great shape and she is not scissor happy. She only trims where the ends that are fried. I only get trims once a year, so I figured the worse that can happen is have a bit more off than I wanted, but if I know how to baby my hair it will grow back better and stronger.

To those who trim their own hair. Do you wear it all down and trim straight across? Or do you part each section and trim?

I relax myself b/c I am deployed, but if I was home, my stylist would. I dust when necessary, but I get a stylist to do my major trims.

What tool do you use? I'm straightening for the first time in ages next week and want to do my own trim, but don't know how. I downloaded all of feye's instructions (THANKS TIFFERS!!!:grin::grin:) but I know the tool is important too. TIA!

I have decided to trim my own hair....some people dont understand what JUST A LITTLE means.
As far as relaxers, I dont trust myself and will most likely underprocess my hair.
