As a teenager my friend thought she could hot comb my natural hair straight, so she went to do one piece and my hair singed off. Then she thought she could put gel in it and it would lay down. I went home looking a mess.

Oh no! LMFAO!!!!
I have done pretty much everything to my poor hair. Its a miracle I'm not bald yet. I've done everything from dying my hair black "to hide the split ends" to letting some crazy lady cut my hair "short in the front and long in the back" and thus giving me a nice little mullet LMAO My classmates were like WHAT THE HELL and here I thought I looked cute

Yes I remember the perm repair! I used that ish regularly like it was doing something!

I remember trying to use a hot comb through my damaged relaxed hair, my hair just broke right off. :nono:

I remember going to a salon with my nieces, me trying to keep up with the youngsters, decided to get some odd looking geo shaped bangs! I looked like a hacked off poodle by the time I got home. I didn't have the permed hair they had and the smooth as milk hair conditioner the stylist used, didn't smooth a thing! Too funny!

i rememeber when i was at school in west virginia, a salon had a special Wash n Set $7.
we got excited ..neverminding they had never touched a black head:nono:
she couldn't even finish rollersetting it, i had to use their handheld dryer and dry it myself :lachen: looking like i had a huge birdsnest on head.

when my moms woldn't let me have a relaxeer, i would sneak and hot comb my bangs, then sneak some old relaxer she had in cabinet rub it all over bangs like moisturizer:nono:

tried to be like Marsha Brady brushing my hair 100 strokes a day:nono: with an old hard bristled brush:lachen:

When I was a kid I "helped my younger brother do his hair...."

Well he had just got back from the hairdresser where he had got a #2 (fade). He usually had his edges shaped clean but this time he wasn't happy with the result (or rather I wasn't). So I got my sister's immac (hair removal cream) and tried to even it out. Problem was I couldn't get it straight so I kept having to even it up until his hairline was in the middle of his head. Then when I realised what I had done I tried to make it better by taking off more (but it only made it worse - yes I know but hey I was a kid). :lachen::lachen::lachen:

So in the end my older brother walks in and is like "what the f@*k are you doing, he has no hairline?" My sister saw it and was like in .

My older bro and sister hid my younger bro from my parents and got his head completely shaved off. When my Dad saw it he was like to my older bro "I only asked you to get him a #2 why is he completely bald"?

Before my older bro could answer my little bro (bless his little self) answred Stella tried to fix my hair but it went all wrong so we had to shave it all off. I spent the weekend avoiding and hiding from my parents in fear of my life. My older bro and sister formed a human barricade hence why I survived.

My bros had got their hair cut for a Wedding that weekend. You should have seen my poor little bro with his little tux and bald head. Everyone kept laughing at him and my parents told them the story over a million times over. Luckily everyone found it funny and even the brides family thought it was cute.

Natural again ... this time for good!
Back in 2003 - around Halloween - I got the bright idea to put some caramel colored highlights in my hair. My even brighter idea: I decided to do them myself. I don't even remember the brand name of the highlighting kit that I bought, but it was the one that had the little applicator that looked like a big comb with big teeth spaced far apart. I believe it was Clairol, but I digress ...

Anyhoo, I applied the color, but instead of it making chunky highlights, it looked like I had just dyed my whole head orange. I mean ... bozo the clown orange!! And this was 1 day away from Halloween too, so it looked like I dyed it for Halloween.

So what did I do? Well I tried to mitigate the situation of course -- by slapping harsh black dye over it. My hair turned out a yucky, muddy brown ... then proceeded to break off from below BSL to APL.

<sigh> I can laugh about it now, but back then, it sho' nuff wasn't funny. :perplexed

Kept cutting my hair everytime I got to MBL because it looked dull and limp and all I needed to do was clarify/chelate.

Allowing the stylist to use direct heat on my freshly relaxed hair leaving me with stick straight hair.

Putting layers in for body all I needed to do was texlax and use a lighter oil.

Going to JCPenny to cut my curly hair... the worst of all. I didn't go outside for a while (but I did get a nice pair of shoes and some salon products with my refund).

When I first entered high school and was "feelin' myself"...(lost a little weight and the braces came off) ...I lived on "BB Baby"...(Bronner Brothers Super Grow Grease) - I would grease my hair at night - before I went to school - took it to school with me and would be putting BB on my so-called sideburn finger waves - smelling like some old dried up coconut...

I used to take that BB everywhere...buying jars every other week. Back then everyone was trying to be like the commercial...someone would ask you - hey whatcha using in your hair - u tell'em "It's BB Baby" and and walk off twistin' and smilin'...(LMAO)

Don't know what that H*** I was thinking...

D*** haven't thought about that in years!!!

I decided to dye my hair red on a Sunday (it turned orange), and brown on Wednesday (to cover the orange...but it didn't work) and went to black on a Friday in time for a Saturday conference, but my hair was a greenish mess. A few weeks later I had the worse damage ever, and sported my first baldie. There was no saving that HAM! :lachen:

I tried to cut my own bangs into a style where only one ear was covered...it was 1996, I ended up with bangs up beyond mid forehead and they were totally uneven and too short to blend in with the rest of my hair.

I allowed my neighbor to "latch-hook" my hair...the braids were so tight that I ended up without a hairline for about two years.

Reading this, I think I better stop doing my own hair...

I remember being about 5 and grabbing a pair of scissors and cutting off "my peas" after my dad said I needed a touch up. :nono::nono::nono: I'm surprised my mom didn't light my behind up for that.

Not paying attention and leaning over a candle. All I saw was a ball of fire out the corner of my eye. :lachen:

When my mother started to let me....express myself with my hair :)giggle:), I got a little carried away. At first, it was just blue and green rinses. Then, I started messing around with the permanent dyes. :nono:
I dyed my hair blonde and didn't like how it turned out, so I colored it jet black two days later. Then, I tried to lighten it by dying it blonde two days later. Then I relaxed it two days later. I BC'd a week later

I tried to use a hot comb on my bang and I burned my bang off.

You too! I was just about to tell my story.

I was young, somewhere between 9-11. My mother wouldn't press my hair so I waited until she left the house (latch key kid) and I commenced the hot comb process.

The smell of burnt hair was in the house for a few days. :nono: She wouldn't let me wear bangs for like 6 mos.

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought that re-dying a bad dye job was the trick to fix it! :lachen:

Transition Over
Two of the worst things that I've ever done to my hair that I find hilarious now?

1. (I told this story before though) When I was a little kid, the evening before the first day of school, my mother was texlaxing mine and my older sister's hair. She did mine first, washed it out, and left me in the living room to go start on my sister's. She told me not to touch it at all.
When she left, I grabbed a fine tooth comb and used the end with teeth to try to make ringlets in my hair (don't know wtf I was thinking). The comb got hopelessly tangled up in my hair, and then I heard her coming back to the living room. I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut the comb out, along with a HUGE chunk of hair.

2. I was in middle school. I wanted to get a touch up for my relaxer, but my mother wouldn't give me money for the relaxer, because my hair was in really bad shape. She said I could have money for a wash, steam treatment and set, but no relaxer. I got mad and went upstairs to my room. I was staring at the naps along my hairline for like ten minutes, and then I couldn't take it anymore, so I grabbed some clippers and started trying to shave them off. I shaved way too far back, and was left bald from my temples to my ears. On both sides. I had to wear a center part for like two years, waiting for that hair to grow back in.

And on both occasions, when she saw what I had done, my mother nearly killed me.
She had a little bit of mercy on me with the comb incident, because I was still small.
But with the clipper incident...wooh lord. She beat me so. damn. bad.
At one point, I swear I heard that voice from Mortal Kombat say, "Finish Her". True story. :yep:

Excellent Thread OP!!!

I used to wet my nape length, natural, 4a/b hair, apply vaseline (to slick it back) and go! :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

In my own defense, I was pretty young then. Thank goodness I have no evidence (pics)

I've relaxed my hair twice in the same day, because the first one didn't "take"

I put highlights in my hair with bleach, then decided I didn't put enough in so I blowdried my hair and added more. Then I relaxed a week later. Then I dyed it black. Then I decided I wanted my healthy hair back.
I found the forums and BC'd about 2 months after that. There wasnt enough co washing in the world to bring that hair back :nono:

When I was in highschool my friend dyed my hair on a Friday and then relaxed my head 2 days later. The next time I washed my hair a lot of hair came out in my hands.

The first time I was natural, I went blonde.....It looked great at first, but since I didn't have healthy hair practices to begin with- you guessed it, the blonde hair all broke off at the new growth. I had to cut it all off and start all over again. :nono:

I have never looked at a light colour again
