Ummm let me think!!!

1. When I was in Elementary school, I snuck my sisters wig out of the house (she was going through chemo at the time) and wore it to school. I told everyone it was my hair, I think I fooled my classmates but all of the teachers were giving me the side eye! However, everyone found me out in gym class when I got hit in the head with a dodge ball and my sisters wig came flying off.

2. In Middle school, I asked my mom to give me a touch up so I could go skating...she told me no, so I did it myself and it came out completely underprocessed. Well later that day she changed her mind (not knowing what I had been up to) and relaxed me again! My scalp was on FIRE!!!! I went skating that night and I had puss running down my neck from all of the weeping sores in my head!

3. In high school, I did a repeat of Elementary school but this time It was a long phony pony. And once again during gym class, my hair got knocked off!!! I was sooooo embarrassed I had to go home early!

4. And last and hopefully least a few years ago I was using the baggie method every night. Well one morning I cleaned up, put my suit on, removed my scarf, brushed my edges and went to work. 4hrs into my day I realized I had green plastic wrap around my bun!!!!!! I felt like a complete idiot...no one even said anything. I was so relieved that I did not have any meetings that day!

When I was in high school all my friends were getting highlights so of course I wanted some too. I begged and begged my mom but she said I was too young. I remembered that about a year ago my friend's little brothers played a joke on her and put peroxide in her gel and turned her hair blonde so I decided to do the same things but take it a step further. I poured some peroxide all over my hair and topped it off with some lemon juice and sat outside in the sun. First my hair was this pretty auburn color. I got a little peroxide happy and put more in my hair then it turned orange, I looked a HAM!!!

I let a crazy friend of mine relax my hair. She only had about three spoons of relaxer left and you better believe she went ahead with the insanity. My hair looked a HOT mess when all was said and done :(

I had the nerve to grease it my mom never pressed our hair. We had plats big caribbean plats :lachen:I put the iron on hot and greased it up and singed away. on side of my hair melted away. it was one of those old heavy irons :nono: and my brother helped me he laughed during the whole thing. my hair grew back fast though my mom just cut it real low and had my older sister braid it up.

Thankful this wasn't a disaster, but only because God is good! When I was 9 (1980) I begged my mom to let me get a Carefree Curl. After several months she gave in, but she hated my curl. So, about a year later she took me to a stylist to see about growing the curl out. Well, the lady put a relaxer on top of my hair that had a curl!:wallbash: God is good; I never lost any of my hair!

When I was about 4, my mom was cooking and had a little bit of oil heating in a cast iron skillet. She left the room for a minute and I thought...oil, iron, pressed hair. I put my white dolls synthetic hair on that skillet and sizzle, sizzle, it burned all the way up! Naturally, my mom whooped my tail.

In high school my cuz put straight Clorox on her head to do a dye job. She left in on for about 30 minutes. She looked like Heat Miser!!:lachen:

Toooo many...

8th grade class pictures, with the cap & gown. The most important pictures ever at that point in your life. :look: I knew all the girls would have their hair down, but my mom always said my hair was too nappy to wear down. So instead of a nice press & curl or something, my sister gave me some braids. Dookie braids. And then she tried to be experimental on the night before my class pictures and did some style that only looked right piled up in a knot on top of my head. :nono: Yet I had to wear a cap on top of it for the pictures. :look:

My coat at the time had a detachable hood on it, so when I got to school that day I was so mortified by my horrible uneven, spaced-out dookie braids that i just detached the hood and kept it on. The teacher & everyone kept prodding me to take it off, but I wouldn't. Finally the teacher came up behind me and snatched it off me head (after a struggle!) and then I just broke down and cried like a baby. In front of the whole class. :nono:

That's why I'm just so THANKFUL to be in control of my own head now and to be COMPETENT enough to never feel embarrassed about my hair again!

I cut those beady beads to avoid the straightening comb. Even today, I can't shave the sides because they never laid down smooth. What I remember, Sun In and vacationed in Clearwater Florida. I did have the sunshine in my hair.

I let my aunt put a "Hawaiian curl" in my hair in 5th grade (but in my defense, I was young and didn't know any better :look:). My hair broke off like crazy. :ohwell: My mom had to cut off almost all of my hair to about an inch long (to the new growth I assume).

The only reason she didn't cut it all to about an inch is because I cried and begged her not to, because I didn't want to look like a boy. :lachen: Luckily my hair grew back quickly.

I can definitely look back on it and laugh. But it felt traumatic at the time.

When I was 4 and my little brother was 2(so like 1991) I cut off his "tail"...it was like 6 inches long. My mother was pissed!

One week my mother permed my hair, two weeks later my grandmother permed it- both times from NG to tip. DISASTER AREA! I was 8 years old.

3 years ago my grandmother(then 73) said my hair was uneven. She cut about 3 inches of each side.

i rememeber when i was at school in west virginia, a salon had a special Wash n Set $7.
we got excited ..neverminding they had never touched a black head:nono:
she couldn't even finish rollersetting it, i had to use their handheld dryer and dry it myself :lachen: looking like i had a huge birdsnest on head.

when my moms woldn't let me have a relaxeer, i would sneak and hot comb my bangs, then sneak some old relaxer she had in cabinet rub it all over bangs like moisturizer:nono:

tried to be like Marsha Brady brushing my hair 100 strokes a day:nono: with an old hard bristled brush:lachen:

wow reading that made me want to pee my pants. I've never posted before but I just had to say that's hilarious

These stories are hilarious, but some of them make me sad at the same time. Let me pour some likka out for all the lil black girl homies of the world and the things we have gone through with our hair....

I'm remembering the countless times I've burned off inches of my hair with the curling iron while trying to make Shirley Temple curls. Having that curling iron real good and tight thinking 'let me just keep it here a few more seconds so I get that good curl", take it off and have a dry crisp mass that falls off once you touch it.

Giving my lil brother haircuts in the bathroom with scissors. His hair was kept in a fluffy fro when he was little and I would cut patches out...him left looking like a homeless child.

My hair diastered began when I was 4 in 1980 and ended 3 years ago when a friend told me about LHCF.

I guess the worst was when I wanted to stop getting a curly kit, my hairdresser was telling all her curly kit clients about a product that would allow you to transistion from a curly kit to a regular relaxer w/o doing a big chop.

So I jumped on the chance to do it. WHY WHY WHY, I put the NEW ERA in my hair and within a month my hair was falling out all over the place. I was like George Jefferson leaving clumps of hair in the sink. and then I was stuck, I could not go back to the curly kit. I couldn't get a relaxer, so I had to keep using the New Era, Oh and never once did my hair dresser, or my mother, or me suggest I go natural. The Mindset where I come from was after a certain age you had to have a chemical in your hair. So for two years I lived with a bald spot and a comeover, untill I finally grabbed a pair of sissors at 3am and cut all my hair off.

That was cycle I continued for years, bad hair care, severe damage, 3 am hair cut!!

At one point, I used to buy all the yt people products like mousse and gel and slather it on my hair and tried to style my hair exactly the way the yt girls did; needless to say I consistently looked like a hot mess

I remember my oldest sister tried to dye her hair with peroxide and it came out an orange/rusty looking color. I bleached my hair and dyed it blue without knowing how to properly take care of it. Needless to say my bangs started to break off until they were about 1/2 an inch. So no matter what hair style I had there was always that 1/2 inch of hair sticking up. Not only that but after about a month they turned an ugly green color. I still didn't learn my lesson, bleached my hair again and then did red highlights. Breakage city once again.

LMAO!!! I've had several disasters...most in my teen years when my mama turned me loose on my own head and I didn't know any better:

1. Oil sheen= moisturizer for me
2. I used alot of hairspray ALL the time
3. Let my mom give me box perms (breakage, breakage, and more breakage)
4. Started going to the salon for perms every 4 weeks (breakage, breakage, and more breakage)
5. Too many bad cuts to even mention
6. Brushed a lot thinking it was good for my hair
7. My hair would get puffy and I thought this was a good thing b/c it looked fuller, little did i know that it was just dry as dust and 'bout to break off
8. Took stylists advice like it was sacred and holy... now I feel that they need MY advice

My poison was spritz. One time I got some finger waves put in my hair in middle school and I wanted them to last as long as possible. So I spritzed my hair to death everyday for like a week. When I washed my hair out I had little clupms of broken of hair that were still spritzed together. :perplexed

The good news is that that incident cured me of my spritz addiction cold turkey. :lachen:

But with the clipper incident...wooh lord. She beat me so. damn. bad.
At one point, I swear I heard that voice from Mortal Kombat say, "Finish Her". True story. :yep:

Whoooo!!! I'm literally crying over here Chaos... I'm weak!!! :lachen:

The only incident I can think of that was really bad was when I attempted to cut bangs on my own hair a few of years back...only I cut them 1/4 of the way between my forehead and my eyebrows :nono: It took so long for them to grow back. I had to wear braids for the longest..smh

In the early to mid-90s why did I stop at nothing to get my hair cut in the lastest "in style" in the Bahamas at the time? You know it was only a couple years ago that I came to the realization that I had what the Americans call a "mullet" :nono: if you can visualize this, my hair was cut to about 2-3 inches in length from a part in my hair from the back of my ear forward with the remainder of my hair a little below SL....I was in love :wallbash:

About *mumbles* years ago back in undergrad, I stupidly applied some Sun-In hair dye to my hair. I walked around looking like a human wheat field for months with light brown straw-like hair as I "nursed it back to health" with some Luster's Pink Oil Moisterizer. :lachen:

Dang, you brought back memories. Finisheen used to be the ish for me back in the 90's. It smelled so goooood and made me feel like I was a professional when I would spray that on my hair. Oooh, oooh, oooh, the memories. Doing my thing with the Finisheen:lachen:

I still got about 3 cans of oil sheen underneath my bathroom sink. Mizani shyne spray (2 cans) and one can of Isoplus:lachen:

I recently used it about a month ago and laughed as I sprayed it...the thrill is gone. I think I'll give mine away

You know now that I think about it, besides some jacked up hair cuts, my hair practices weren't all that bad........well there was the crimping iron, okay the Luster's Pink Oil Lotion to do the crimps but hey I eventually moved on to Kemi Oyl while still in high school....:ohwell:

........and you know I was doing the ponytail rollersets from way back then even though it was a single pony on top of my head with my Pink Oil Lotion to do the rollerset and maybe I did leave that ponytail (done with a bubble by the way) in the same spot for over 2 weeks without combing.......hey I was practicing low manipulation even before LHCF...........only to result in breakage in the middle of that pony down to a 1/2" of hair...:nono:

and you know my hairdresser only combed my relaxer a little past my new growth.....about 4-5inches :wallbash: what did I know she was the expert....shoot......I was only what 13 or 14, it's not my fault, I didn't know any better plus her hair was off da chain!! :drunk:

These stories are cracking me up. The biggest one I can think of was that when I was around 13 or 14 I used to always do these fake rodded ponys. Somewhere along the way I figured out that I could just put the fake hair on rods and put it in the microwave so the rods would dry and I wouldn't have to sit under the dryer. I snuck and did this several times, mind you I was rolling the hair up with brown pro-styl gel.
One night we had a dance at school and I snuck my hair in the microwave for my rod phony pony not realizing that I had left a bobby pin on the fake hair. Long story short, I blew up the microwave and my hair, my mother nearly killed me, and because I didn't believe in leaving the house in my real hair I went to the dance in a burnt up ponytail smelling like hot brown gel...good times.
