"Knowing" your hair, and why pics are so important

So I've been journeying a while, and I feel like I "know" my hair pretty well. It likes protein and cones, isn't a fan of too much oil, starts to shed/break if I go longer than a week without washing, etc.

I've also known for a while now that my hair gets longer faster in the warmer months -- this is pretty common across the board, I think. I recently made a blog post whining about slow growth in the winter and feeling some hair anorexia, can't wait for spring/summer :blah:

But I took my pics today anyway, as I find taking pics every 2 months to be ideal for me. Lo and behold, look what I discovered. No, the overall length of my hair hasn't changed much in the last 2 months. I might have gained half an inch in overall length, which is typical for winter for me. But the deep u-shape I cut into my hair in January is darn near gone! So the middle of my hair was creeping barely along, while the sides were busy playing catch up at lightning speed. Apparently my hair likes the blunt look

Anyway, just wanted to remind everyone to keep taking those pictures -- you need those photos to help you keep an eye on things...

ITA! I started my little hair pic diary this year. I can't wait to see the progress I make, whether it's in length or playing catch up with my "V". Thanks for sharing your pix with us!

Thanks, ladies!
The catch is that my warm weather growth spurt is always preceded by a few weeks of shedding  It's like my scalp tries to keep warm in the winter by growing the hair fuller/thicker, then it thins out for the warm weather and concomitant growth spurt.

I find 2 months to be a good schedule for pics -- I've tried more often and I start to become a little neurotic and antsy

I agree with you. Your hair is so thick. Love it.

After thinking about it, when I took pics regularly, my hair was crazy healthy. And when I stopped my hair is now jacked. Hmmmmmm.

Here I grow again!
Wow! Great post and awesome progress. I was just thinking about getting a blunt cut but, maybe I should wait to see if the sides try to catch up on their own.

Your hair does exactly like mine. The bottom part grows out first and then the sides catch up. If I didn't have pictures to compare, I would think that I wasn't making progress. Good work, keep it up.
