Do your edges ALWAYS have to be perfect?

Particularly when your hair is up. If not then I'm envious...LOL! I'm trying to work on less stress on the edges of the front hair line, as I have noticed some slight damage on the ends of bangs that "just reach" into the bun/pony/clip from wearing it in a bun/pony so much (same spot...I know, I know, but I wasn't trying to grow hair...so there is my out...LOL) So now I'm trying some clips, braids and different stlyes that don't put stress on...some cute, some not so cute...LOL!

I'm just ramblin'...sorry.

Anyway, when my edges aren't laying down and my hair is up/bunned/ponied etc I think/feel like my hair is a mess. I need to get past it, but don't seem to be able to especially if I wanna "look cute" anyone else??

I feel untidy when the hair at my temples frizz up and I'm wearing a bun. I'm learning to get over this though with the help of light oils mixed with IC Fantasia gel, followed by a couple of gentle swipes of the BBB.

nope.

i wear my hair back in ponytail all the time and i like my frizzy nappy edges. i try not to perm them

:)

ETA - when my hair gets to be waist length all the way around, my nappy edges will let the world know that true 4b hair can be long and beautiful too!

The only time I really worry about my edges being perfect is when my hair is pulled back or up...I tend to worry when its down, usually my hair hides an unruly edges.

My edges don't bother me that much. If they do, I just use gel and a scarf or a headband. The way I see it, frizzy egdes are better than no edges. :)

My edges are almost always frizzy. I almost always look like I need a touchup unless I flat iron my hair. I have damaged my hairline in the past and I'd rather have frizzy edges than damaged edges, I made that choice a long time ago and I go with it.

not usually, I never used to think it was a big deal to make sure my edges were smooth. That was until I saw some pics of what it looks like !
That's when I started to put more care into the edges, and that invovles brushing them down with a boar bristle brush and prepping with a light gel (black'n sassy creamy set)

I have to have neat edges. My remedy is a mixture of Jam and Fantasia IC and/or my hubby's thick wave pomade. That way my hair smoothes down and has shine but its still has wave to it and is not pulled super tight to achieve the smooth look. I think if my hair was longer it would bother me as much but since its still pretty short, if I don't smooth it pieces will stick up here and there...not pimpin.;)

When my hair was longer I didn't care. Now that I'm back above APL, I need them to be right. Luckily it doesn't take more than some Proclaim and gently smoothing to tame 'em.

I would  them to be but i haven't found the right products or combination.

Currently I use Pravana Shine & Define Wax. It works sometimes.
I tried Beyond the Zone wax and it left a slight build up around my edges. I tried a QP products that did nothing for my edges.

If anybody knows of any products that can lay down some 4ab hair without build up and breakage, let a sister know.

Yes. I can't stand them to be frizzy. On damp or wet hair, I will work a scarf with oil, aloe vera gel, hair gel, cheapie leave-in or whatever else I can find, and a baby hair brush or men's soft boar bristle brush to lay my hairline down.

I use a mixture of Murray's Pomade and TIGI Bed Head Manipulator pomade. This works well most of the time. Sometimes I mix Aveda Anti- humeticant pomade with the Murray's, this works well also. I usually don't get any build-up with these products as long as I only use a tiny amount, plus in the summer I was twice a week at times.

Mine don't, they can't. They're 100% grad A certified baby, not even relaxer could keep them down. I'm surprised I still have any, the way the stylist use to rake through them with relaxer and a tail comb...

Mine don't need to be perfect. infact when i do smooth the edge with water and pomade and a scarf I usually don't like the results and I brush them again so they'll poof a little.

Mines aren't perfect.

I was in class the other day sitting beside a girl who relax and trim her hair every 4 weeks :perplexed . One our friends in the class was like Natalie your hair is kind of nappy in the front ! I'm like that's not naps it's my new growth negro !

I'm guilty of this. My edges always have to be perfect. Sometimes it stresses me out but I don't feel put together w/frizzy edges. I'm really self concious about short tuffs right above my ears. I don't want to walk around looking like George Jefferson:look: .

I got over it b/c nothing works on my edges but perm.

Can't have beady beads tho, I have to un-bead the kitchen as necessary.

I used to have this problem. I would JAM the hell out of my edges and brush (hard plastic) them until they were too tired to pop back up  . Of coarse this was a loooooong time ago. The end result was cute, slicked down, broken, and thinning edges. Gald I'm over that cuz I have a Widow's peak like LisaRaye:ohwell: and thinning edges is not a good luck!

When my hair is up in a bun or french roll my edges must look as neat as possible. I use a bit of water, gel (fote or long aid) a toothbrush and a scarf, it gets the job done without any harmful effects. :)

I try to keep it down as much as possible but I refuse to use gel or pull it back to tight just to get the edges to be "ok". Now, I love my nappy edges and nape 'cause since i started using conditioner as my moisturizer on the nape, i think this can help with the edges too! Just some conditioner, oil and a scarf to hold it in place and i think it should look decent. I use to do the "scarf to lay down your edges" method when I was natural and it worked pretty good. Especially for someone who's hair never slicked back with gel when I was natural  !
